In order to chronicle my progress and keep me from stopping lifting again, I've decided to start a journal on the WBB. I have been working out on and off (mostly off) for almost 4 years now, and while I have never ceased to do research on resistance training, the actual time spent in the gym is pretty pathetic. I got sick and lost all the remaining muscle from my last stint and decided I needed to go into this headlong and do things right. Been lifting the past 2 weeks in my backyard with an 8ft long steel pole and a bunch of cinderblocks weighing approx 40lbs and also some assorted dumbells. But I got a Y membership so no more of that ghetto rig even though I enjoy it. So starting from near complete newbie status here are my stats:

Age: 17
Weight: 144
Squat: to be tested tomorrow
Bench: dont bench, hurts my shoulders
Deadlift: to be tested tomorrow
Pullups: BW+60x4
Goals: 175lbs by june, 700+ total for the core 3 lifts.

Yesterdays workout:
ME Shoulders, Back and Arms

Handstand Pushups x 10,10 (warmup)
Upright row 170x3,3,2 cheated to get it up, held it at the top, brought it down slow.
Lateral Raises 30x3,3
DB tricep extension 30x5,5
Bent Over Rows (170!)x4, 3
Pullups +40x6, (+60!)x4, 3
Wow! I have gained so much strength since I was working out before. I couldnt even row 135. Must be all that eatin.

Not very good. breakfast was small because I ran out of eggs and I didnt get to the grocery store until later in the afternoon.
Probably got about 2200 calories. Forgot glutamine and creatine.
All else was spot on.

Bits and peices of my paradigm are being removed as I am becoming able to see the way things are more clearly. After a long time in an effective Coma, I have come out and am able to think independantly at last. I need more sensory deprivation and more reading.

ME Squat/Dead

Quad Extensions 150x12, 180x10 (warmup)
Squats 135x10, 185x5, 225x 1(miss:cry: ) 185x5, 205x3 I dont understand this at all. Why are my quads so weak? My quads used to be my best body part by far. Even when i was young i could alsways do a ton on leg extensions and the leg press. But all I felt the squats in was my quads. Damn. Perhaps this could be attributes to the fact that I was squatting in a smith machine. (which I dont like BTW. Bastard YMCA doesn't even have one squat rack.)
Ham curls 110x4, 120x2 then dropped to 100x2
Leg press 180x6,6,6 just tried to get the feel for going real deep. somethin I was having trouble with on the squats. It seems that a whole new group of muscles gets incorporatedd right before you reach parralel.

Deadifts in the Smith Machine 225x1, 275x1(miss) 275x1,1
SLDL in the Smith 225x3 My lower back was gone after this.
Hangin ab raises toes to the ceiling 8,9,8

Seated calf raises 45x10, 95x10, 135x 3 Very easy but cramps were killing me so I decided to call it a day.
Weighed 146.5

Days not done yet but good so far. Missed a meal during school but made up for it later. Plenty of protein. Supplements all right on. I think I may need to add another meal somewhere though. When or how i dont know.

I went to school today for the first time in 2 months; never again. I dont know how I plan on handling college next year but I am DEFINATLEY not looking forward to it. After experiencing pure terror for about 2 hours, everyone else's complacency sort of lulled me back into a non thinking state. Its going to take me a week to get back to where I was but I will be better for it. I need drugs to make for night-night.

Diet: :D Hit around 36 hundred today, same yesterday. lots of protein and everything. I'll start shooting for 4000 next week.

Last night had some sort of massive panic attack triggered by god knows what. It wasnt like a normal panic attack. More migrain/ hyperventilation oriented. Got some broken sleep but lasted all the way until about 11 am today. WOOHOO!!
And today just a stones throw away from homelessness.
Had a good trek to PineView to clear my mind. Approx 2 hours.

These past few days have been terrible and fun. Diet has been absolutley terrible. Saturday I ate a loaf of bread and a 2 liter of mountain dew. Thats what happens when you spend a few days without leaving the beach and you have 3 bucks. At least I have a nice tan now. Last night I had a date with the lady Salvia. I do not think She likes me very much lol. Very violent interaction. Thats another story though,

had a ****ty workout the day before yesterday due to it being at 1 in the mornign at a friends house. his bench was f*cked up and hurt my shoulders too. no ME squat/dl today due to suckage. but i weighed 151 yesterday morning barefoot. im doing something right.

Screw all this other crap, and partying and staying out until 4 am and what not. I need to Focus. I am Focused, but not on the right things. My ally will show me the way, Mescalito will show me the way. The correct way of living.... damn. Im a wreck. And i wont let myself do one thing at a time. as long as i get my cals i'll be fine lol

Workouts have been terrible, or at least the conditions and poundages have been terrible. Mental intensity is something ive never had any trouble with. Ive been working out at my freinds gym at approximatley 1 am and its really screwing with me. I have to get back in the Y.

something like that, i was mainly working on technique, nobodys ever showed me how to deadlift before. i like doing it this way, i think i'll try a few really light singles before i max out next. anyhow if it felt right i did two, if not i did a single, but it was damn light regardless and really flew up



a little tougher, but no troubles. about halfway through my deads i noticed my whole back was in pain, mainly my upper back and this has never happned before and got me a little worried. they feel fine now but i decided to cut it short

Just finished a terrible workout, but here are some measurements taken right beforehand

Neck: 15 1/8
Arms, Upper: 12 3/4
Arms, Fore: 12
Chest: 39 1/4
Waist: irrelveant
Thighs: 22.5

SO i think thats an increase, so better than nothing. Diet today has been subpar because of my job hunt but i fould one. Interview tomorrow morning at 10 at RJ's smoothies... they put protein in everything :D

Diets been better. I have alot easier time if is just eat every 3 hours. so that averages about 5 meals a day and 5.5-7 hundred cals per meal so approx 28-35 hundred cals. good deal. forgot to weigh myself, my biceps are still thrashed from before. I am stupid, and i realized today why they have been hurting so much.
I was doing a set of curls with a 30ib DB about 5 times a day for a few days before that workout *smacks self* IDIOT


DE Squat/Dead

half of those were very wide, the other half were quite narrow (to my standards) narrow feels way way differant. I feel it alot more in my glutes and hams and much less in my hips.
I have have done more or less sets than this but i do not care; i wasnt really counting

I did some various calf raises in the smith with the same weight and my toes on 25s. All to 20 reps.

Leg Extensions

Adductor thins supersetted with Abductor thing. 3 sets
the easier one i did 150 lbs and the harder one i did 130 ibs

they were both really easy but they felt very awkward. This is definatley keeping back my wide stance squats down. I have the feeling these are going to become a vital part of my ME days. Highly recommended to anyone who squats wide

ace. I loved the way these felt. Great speed, each set took 2 seconds MAX.

Some various ab work with pullys and some hanging stuff too, mostly in the 5-8 rep range

other notes: biceps have lost their peak but the look much fuller/wider. My calfs look alot smaller and indeed they are down to 14.75 inches. Their shape is morepeasing now, as i have always thought my calfs were a little fatty and they seem to be getting leaner. My lower back is getting much bigger and so are my pecs and traps. This is all going by the mirror. Lifts are more important but hey, its still worth mention i suppose.

sweatin like a bitch, i feel much better now but my endurance is not that great, and i feel it alot in my legs, especially the tibialis anterior. i will be doing direct work on the muscle the next leg day
i want to try and get this down to 20 minutes or less. I really need to go buy a pair of proper running shoes

Another thing i have decided is that on my press row days i should alternate push and pulls excersices per set, not just do a push workout and then a pull workout. i feel like this would help my muscular endurance alot. and i need to do lower weights days. though it may not be so bad to go with a little higher reps and sacrifice speed for the sake of hypertrophy. Westside is a great program, but i feel it is hindering my weight gain.

I took a day off for "recovery" I was going to come back on thursday for my ME deadlift, and i was going to pull 315, maybe 325. I was going to be all over 3 plates. I mean, if i can squat it for a double, why the hell shouldnt i be able to deadlift an equal amount? But.... wait, the most i had ever pulled was 275, out of a rack at knee level... where was i going to gain the strength to make a 40lb jump in 8 days?....would it be the organic soda? the magical overfeeding&westside thats produced similar gains in others?....or would it be waking up 4 hours earlier than normal and goign straight to the gym...:redface: yes i think this would be where i would get my hidden reserves from

not to mention the fact that i needed to heavily drug myself in order to fall asleep before 1 am.. dammit. i was in the gym for about 1.1 hours, got there a around 910 ish

Quads and calfs both went down half an inch and then went back up, they look much much bigger than before, better shape/less fat. The upper arm differance is ALL tricep.. it hangs much lower, i hate the way my triceps are shaped.. Anyhow a total of 20lbs gained in about 5-6 weeks
and the knee hurts like a bizatch.

Damn... a month ago i wanted a 700 total by june. Well today i got my bench and im ahead 60ibs, and a month early. I might get to 800 or june :D

I have decided that because my strength goals have been acheived, and westside is not geared for hypertrophy, I will be temporarily dropping the westside layout opting for something along these lines

Day 1
Heavy push/pull
mainly compound excersises with focus put on bench, oh press, and bb rows. approx 3-6 reps per set

Day 3
Heavy Legs
focus on olympic squat, leg press, and SLDL. Approx 3-6 reps per set

Day 5
Light push/pull
more isolation excercises. Focus on TUT Approx 10-20 reps per set

Day 7
Light legs
more machine work, focus on TUT. Approx 10-20 reps per set.

If all goes according to my previously laid out goals and i can get over 170 at my current bf% (6-7) I will register for a BBing competition. I did not expect this to happen, but i wont complain, and i think i have the potential.

I will start boxing again today, every off day. I will be minimizing the volume of my training sessions and will not be doing any conditioning. Had a good practice today, got started writing a new song and lengthened our newest song. Calories low today, especially protein. This can be easily remedied. :evillaugh

I'll certainly be keeping everyone updated. It just seems to me that quite a few people have gained tremendous amounts of muscle naturally just by eating 30-40 times their bodyweight in calories. Its worked very well for me so far (25lb gain in under 2 months) and with my natural test situation... dizzam. The hardest part is actually affording the food. I was surprised how easy it was to actually eat that much food, especially considering my old diet (pre weightlifting) was only about 900 calories a day.

I did some sort of bodybuilders push type workout today, since the ho-bags at my gym close early. And i have jack for equipment now, so i have to make do.

Mega pushups, all varietys, one handed, clapping etcetera, for a variety of rep schemes

Lateral raises: 30*5,4,5,5

Rear laterals: 30*9 (sets.. 2 maybe?)

OH db tricep extension 30*6:6

i think that was it. progress measurements tomorrow, and i may do a back workout in a similar vein. In which case i will post weight fluctuations.

So we were listening to a band at the Pour House in Ft Worth Saturday night. My friend is an old burned out equipment manager for a band back when. I was asking him about Ibanez guitars, being able to vary the string height and such. I couldn't see the stage real well so I aksed him if there was an Ibanez up there. He said no, but did you notice that the fretboard on one of the guitars has inlaid birds on it. I couldn't believe he could see it from where we were sitting. Somehow he could tell it was a PRS from like 30 yards away.

Speaking of birds a roadrunner crossed the road in front of me today on a highway. They are the ultimate bird. Fortunately I missed him.

i guess at least some of the stuff im about to say halfway belongs in here. toook a 30 minute nap today, i have been feeling absolutley exhausted when im not in the gym. Also if i take more than a 2 day break, i start to become more and more short tempered. generaly just in a slump right now, and my mind is taking my places that its fun to go (read: insanity is amusement, but like so many carnival rides, you screams for the ride to stop merley result in the operator turning it faster for a longr period of time) today at work i wrote on a napkin "satan is the boss of the world" and put it in the cash register. speaking of which a co-worker is quitting and i have been selected to fill all of his shifts. stupid ****. my resentment of women and estrogen is growing exponentially, i literally cannot turn on the television without writhing in disgust. true to my nature this accompanys a revival in my "mate for life" instinct, last night i actually dreamt of women (non sexually). I very, very, very seldom have females and the presensce of one last night i find somewhat disturbing. tomorrow i think i will edit this to include the use paragraphs. my comedic value is dwindling (debatable) and i find myself rarley, if ever, laughing, even amidst such giants present here. problems with my mother continue steady, no worries there. my isolation is unchanged as well, Mike was the first person i have had a real life social exchange with in over a month. tomorrow i am supposed to have an outing with brian, something i predict will not coagulate. he finally had his experience with the teacher, and said it was very positive and he also said some very positive things to me (because he wants what i possess that he cannot get?). i can tell, even through text, the wisdom it has put on him.
what is something worth though, is the staggering number of depressed, self pitying, hateful, untrustful men with such similar drives this forum has brought together. this is alot more than just a bodybuilding site, and we continue to grow and share together. just finished busting my ass for half an hour hauling around evil cinder blocks which really sucked my balls. i made the best of it, inspired by meathead i did alot of cleaning, pushpressing, and in general throwing them around. i got very dirty and sweaty, but my back is fine (praise the lifting belt), however my hands are torn to sh|t and i can barley hold a cup. this counts as training, so i'm not whining (i kinda had fun).

bad news.

It has been decided that my hate is such that i am to be exported to live (temporarily, i hope) with another member of my family (who i am supremley disfond of) the soonest i will be back is late july. internet service is questionable in said locations but i should be able to check email due to libraries etcetera. blah blah blah, whine whine whine, i will however, not be either starved or deprived of a squat rack, though transport to said equipment is likley to consist of my own two hoofs. what i find most depressing is that i will be stripped of my blessed fruity loops, my tender electronic catharsis. I'll more then likley be getting in about 3-5 hours of guitar practice a day. :cry: I wont even get my big amp!

Congratulations on your graduation. I would not be too concerned about the weight changes. It is common for weight to fluctuate by a few pounds on a day by day basis because of water and glycogen changes. This seems especially likely if your diet changed with the graduation.

the heavier sets of powercleans were powercleans to front squats for an equal number of reps, AND i did some sprinting, and i was very surprised at my speed. I feel like an athlete or something. :cool:

Nice job with the monthly measurement gains. The legs and arms moved increased quite a lot for just a month. A 14lb weight gain is also large. I take it you are still eating 6000 calories a day, as mentioned in an earlier journal.

i dont have any clue how much i am eating, in honesty. Some days (like today :(), im only eating about 4500, however, about 3 days ago i more then likley broke 7000, thanks to the 7lbs of beef i ate in addition to my normal diet. I really oght to get more militaristic about it, but as long as im gaining well, its likley i wont make many changes.
However, i have been considering trying to match Narc's diet as closley as i can (minus the velveeta, yuck!) to make sure im getting way over maintenance.

Eating that much would be quite a change. Narc mentioned that he eats over 10,000 calories per day. It usually takes about 3,500 extra calories to gain an extra lb. Although at some point the gains slow down, and calories get wasted on futile cycles, such as thermogenesis. If I ate 10,000 calories per day, I might gain more than 10lb in the first week.

Im gaining no less then 2lbs a week now, though id like to up it a little, maybe like 4-5lbs a week, and in fact for a while i was doing that. So i dont think its that tough, growth can be forced.

well, i've put on next to no bodyfat so far, and thats been with no less then Bw x 30 = cals per day, sometimes as high as bw x 38. I do combine alot of powerlifting and bodybuilding ideas, functional and limit strength is very important to me. However, this is "wanna be BIG", im trying to get to 205 right now. I will be sad the day i cant see any abs at all :(

Wow, you did quite a few sets of calves. I could never do more than 1 set since it takes forever to scavenger up the 45s needed for any type of calf work since they usually only have 1 or 2 in the area.
