Could someone give me more information on this subject?

Ive been researching numerous sources on androgen receptor downregulation and have been left wondering whether it is a myth?

The way i see it is if a subject who has been training drug free and built a decent amount of size then cycles for a year and gains say 30lbs of muscle. After this due to unforseen circumstances he cannot train for say 12 months and returns to his natural state.

When the subject begins training and cycling again, i do not think that he will make inferior gains becuase his receptors have been 'downregulated' i could be wrong, but i still feel that it is just some sort of myth created over the years.

I think his gains would be great actually and not inferior. I tend to look at the Casey Viator (sp.) Colorado experiment where he trained for 30 days and gained 40 pounds after having quit for a while. Just what me thinks

Complete myth based on an lack of data. The body creates and destroys millions of AR everyday, it's not like you have a set number that can be "used up."

People were theorizing why individuals become less responsive to steroids each subsequent cycle. They theorized that the AR's must down-regulate to explain why growth in the presence of an anabolic steroid did not remain completely constant. However they missed the obvious in that the starting point (LBM) was lower so their was more room on the skeleton for growth.

The belief from the most current data is that the number of AR's actually up-regulate. In human studies the AR has been shown to up-regulate in response to Anavar which supports date seen from HRT pateints recieveing testosteorne.

The more relevant question seem to be if their is a decrease in AR related reverse transcriptase with androgen exposure which would explain why people seem to stop growing from AS after X number of weeks. This would also explain how nitrogen retention normalizes as seen with winstrol after prolonged periods.
