Saturday Fever

OK, I didn't feel like digging pages back for my journal, and I realize I have weeks of catching up to do. Just accept some highlights from the past 2 weeks as well as my most recent workout. Naturally I'm doing Westside. Anyways, here are some highlights from the past couple weeks.

Bench
255x3

Squats
500 on 18" box
415 on 8" box

Deadlifts
315 from an 8" platform

OK, and yesterdays glorious workout was as follows:

DE Bench Day

Speed Bench
135x3 (8)
155x3 (2)

Elbows-Out Skullcrushers
3 sets of 6 with 120
1 set of 2 with 160
2 sets of 12 with 95

Tate Press
5 sets of 5 with 35s

Bentover Barbell Rows
4 sets of 10 with 250

Chins of Death
+50x37

I thought I had much more than that in me, but apparently I suck. :)

That is extremely impressive. Even 37 unweighted chins are spectacular.

Fever, you didn't do those chins consecutively, did you?

I think chins of death are when you just keep going for as many sets as possible (as many reps in each). Am I correct?

Saturday Fever

I did as many as I could, then hung idle for about 30 seconds, then started repping again. The 37 reps took me about 4 "sets" to complete.

ME Sq/DL Day

Yay for no rest days!

Rack Pulls (plates 6" up)
45x5
135x3
225x1
315x1
365x1
405x1
495x1
565x1
605x0 (oh well)

GHR
10 sets of 10

I decided to steal a page out of the GVT book for my assistance work today. It sucked, and GHR isn't exaclty a "fun" exercise anyways. But I fought through it.

ME Bench Day

Well, I felt like being stupid today, but then I realized that's every day. So instead I just did a normal day.

4 Board Press
45x5
135x5
225x3
275x3
315x1
355x1
365x1

OK, so I cheated and pulled my ass off the bench to get that one.

OH DB Press (on a ball)
5 sets of 5 with 45

Skullcrushers
3 sets of 8 with 120

DB Pullovers (on a ball again!)
2 sets of 12 with 65

Bentover Rows (trying Yates-style)
225x12
315x8
375x7
300x8

What a joke. I have gorilla arms and the ROM on these is just stupid. Nevermind I felt jack **** in my lats. Neat to post this much weight for reps, though.

Pushups (non-stop to failure)
172

I thought that ruled.

I've decided my triceps strength is not my problem. I don't think my upper back and lat strength is the problem either. Maybe it's my shoulders, maybe it's my really close grip, maybe it's the ROM I have been genetically cursed with. I don't know, I don't care, but for giggles I'm going to add some direct shoulders work for a while.

Do you do reptitive method work on both ME and DE days? Isn't that what the pushups were for?

Saturday Fever
04-28-2003, 09:20 PM
The repetitive method is simply using a submaximal amount of weight for X number of reps. Everything I do aside from the ME or DE work is part of the repetitive method. The pushups were just to fry my triceps as much as possible.

On the Yates' rows at what angle was your torso? You still consuming mass quantities of N'Large2?

Saturday Fever
04-29-2003, 06:28 PM
If 90 degrees is perfectly bent over at the hip, then my angle was probably around 45 or so. See Narc's video for an idea.

DE Sq/DL Day

Well, What a day for volume! I decided to put in some extra intensity today just to help destroy me as I'm going to have a busy weekend.

Speed Squats (down to the 8")
205x2 (12)

Romanian Deadlifts (done ME style, looking for a max)
135x3
225x1
275x1
355x1
395x1
425x0

Good AMs (not suspended for a change)
3 sets of 10 with 215

DB Rows
5 sets of 5 with 85

Cambered-Bar Curls (I think the bar weighs 20, so assume that)
4 sets of 6 with 80

Average rest times were nonexistent. I got the entire workout done in about 35 minutes. And I'm beat now.

wow man, love the "..... of death" sessions

really impressive! specially those chins, I think instead of my using drop sets I will try one of those "....... of death" sessions :D

How long have you been doing westside? what was your strategy before westside for building strength/mass?

Saturday Fever
05-06-2003, 01:23 PM
I've been on Westside since August of last year. Before Westside I did terrible routines with no structure or science behind them. As a result, my gains and growth was pretty bad.

Since going Westside, my 3 lifts have done the following:

Bench: 215->335 (295 in comp)
Squat: 245->495
Dead: 275->525

Hercule

Damn! that is freakin crazy man. Your bench is climbing like crazy. Fantastic job:thumbup:

Saturday Fever

ME Sq/DL Day

I feel like I am cool. But deep down I know I'm not.

Conventional Deadlifts
45x5
135x2
225x1
275x1
315x1
365x1
405x1
455x0
435x1

Wow, What a difference feet make.

Romanian Deadlifts
3 sets of 6 with 205

Hyperextensions
5 sets of 5 with 35

And I was spent. Lower back is mighty stiff.

DE Bench Day

Yay for boring, uninspired days.

Speed Bench
225x1 (8)

Elbows-out Skullcrushers
10 sets of 10 with 120

Yay for GVT-style assistance work. I was going to go for more, but I figured, why bother. I was uninspired and felt that 18 total sets was enough.

On a side note, here are my recent measurements:

Total: 246
Lean: 206
Fat: 40
%: 16
Arms: 17.75" (both)

I'd measure more, but since my arms are now decisively massive I decided to just let my ego be happy. It rules having arms that I consider large because I can walk through the mall half-flexed and people say neat stuff like, "damn!" and "look at that guy's arms." and it makes me feel cool. Also, on another side note, I took in 14,000 total calories yesterday. Hurray for eating entire pizzas. Twice.

DE Sq/DL Day

DE days are fun after days off.

Speed Squats
185x2 (8)
225x1 (4)

Suspended Good AMs
5 sets of 5 with 225

DB Rows
3 sets of 6 with 85s

Reverse Hypers
2 sets of 12 with 205

I'm feeling bulky these days.

DK
05-13-2003, 03:33 PM
Where's the abs?

Saturday Fever
05-13-2003, 06:12 PM
Right above my belt and below my pecs. :)

I realize abs work would be good, but I don't seem to ever get any done. I'll see if I can't improve on that in the near future.

Saturday Fever

ME Bench Day

Well, went a little over the deep end. But I figured I've been slacking lately, so what the hell.

1 Board Press
45x5
135x5
225x5 (don't think I've ever done this before)
275x3
315x1
345x1

4 Board Press
345x1
375x1

4" Lockout
375x1
405x1
415x1

Tate Press
5 sets of 5 with 45

DB Laterals
3 sets of 8 with 35

OH DB Press (on a seat)
4 sets of 6 with 75

DB Rows
8 sets of 3 with 120

And I feel like I'm dead.

Saturday Fever
05-16-2003, 03:24 PM
ME Sq/DL Day

And the band played on...and on and on...

Deadlifts (using 25lb plates to increase the ROM)
45x5
145x3
245x3
345x1
395x1
495x1 (felt rough, so I cheated and added 5's)
505x1

Hyperextensions of Death (!!!)
100x+25

Bad idea. Back is stiff as hell now. Hamstrings are angry and my ass is on fire.

Saturday Fever

Did a bench meet that I was unaware was taking place until I happened to see the marquee outside. Considering my horrible work ethic of late, I didn't do too bad.

Bench
285x1
295x1
310x1

Popped up really well. I think my problem in the past has been the speed of the bar descent. It damn near plowed through my chest. To be honest I was lucky it touched and wasn't called for bouncing. It didn't realy bounce but I thought it would. I don't believe the "meet" was really sanctioned, and considering I showed up in jeans and a tshirt made it feel less "real" but hey. I'll take a judged 310 any day. And then there was today's workout:

Basketball
2 hours of fun!
