i'm about to have both lower wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow.
now, my question is (for those who had this done),how many days or weeks did the oral surgeon suggest before you can continue to work out.
i just started working out again(2 month straight) after a 5 month slump and afraid (knowing myself)of getting too lazy to start again if i don't continue. i know i probably shouldn't worry but it's like tempting someone with a cigarette after not smoking for a month.
thanx in advance.

Ha dude you wont even feel like working out. Trust me I had all of mine taken out at the same time and still went to work. I was hating life. My mouth was in sooo much pain!! I would say like at least two weeks at the very bare minimum. Your mouth will start to bleed like hell if you lift hard. Just wait the time and then go back at it strong..

I had all four done and I was wide awake during the extraction. Right after I went to work and I felt great I just couldn't eat very well, only soft foods and MRPs. I even workout right after work. Here is the thing you might have to breath through your nose while working out because when I would breath with my mouth it would sting like a mofo'. Everyone is different and your reaction might be different from mine of square head so just wait until you get it done and see how you feel.

how about working out really light? at my job, i lift & carry a lot. (work as a porter loading and unloading cruiseships)will that affect the wound too? sorry, i know u guys aint dentists, but i just wanted to hear from someone who regularly works out and had this procedure done to them.
thanx for the reply!!!
hopefully if i wait it out and try to come back, i won't feel like lazy from the 2 weeks off.

thanx steveo, i was thinking the same thing(see how i feel first). i asked a friend of mine who had his pulled and he went back to working out in 4 days.but then again other people heal different. but honestly, i think i heal rather quickly than an average person.
i guess i'll just have to wait a couple days to see if i even feel like working out.

I wouldn't do it unless they hurt. Its a bunchof bs. My dentist told me 8 years ago to get them all out. Said it was to tricky for him. Made an apointment with an out of town dentist. Showed up he goes I am not gonna do the top ones there close to your sinus and if there not bother you I am gonna leave them. But since your here lets do the bottom ones. I should have said screw that mentality, but I went threw with it.
If there not bothering you I wouldn't do it. Its a ****ty expereince.

I had 3 taken out and I was away from work for 2 weeks. My face was so swollen people did not recognize me. I was on painkillers 24/7. When they wore off during sleep the pain would wake me up and I would suffer for at leas an hour before they kicked in again. I got an infection and as a result I was put on strong antibiotics and after 2 weeks I was still swollen. It was the worst experience of my life.

Please, tell me getting your wisdom tooth pulled out doesn't hurt that much!!
Didn't hurt at all for me. I did take painkillers (mainly as anti-inflammatory) though.I workout out the very next day, although putting stress on my body did cause one of the stitches to burst, but that was all (it healed just fine though). Everyone is different though.

Took 3 out. Took 1 tylenol 2 and some anit-biotics just in case. It didn't hurt after but it bleed. DONT work out after. There are all kinds of complications that migh result. I can't remember exactly but it was like, you can work out 24/48 (can't remember) hours after the bleeding in your mouth stops completely.

i had the 2 top ones yanked last year w/ no complications whatsoever. i continued working out as usual. the doc just numbed the area real good( actually that hurt the worst...needle in my upper jaw!) and yanked 'em! no problems afterward. just had to swish some anti-bacterial mouthwash for a few days afterwards. good luck!

I didn't stop working out when I had my second one pulled out. I didn't train that day but the day after or the one after that at the most I was back in the gym.

well, i only had one of them pulled. i have no insurance( charging me $475 a tooth plus $100 to numb me up), so i decided to just pull the lower right tooth (the one bothering me.) as far as the pain, the only time i felt it was an hour after the procedure.
the next day & on, i didn't feel any real pain but it was bleeding for two days(less & less) funny thing is, when i left the doctors office, i forgot to get my prescription so the doctor called it in to the local walgreens. i kept calling to see if it was ready and they said they never got the call. so i suffered a about 2 hours before i took 2 motrin and it took the pain away completely. when the walgreens finally said it was ready, i didn't even bother picking up the painkillers he prescribed. i just paid for the antibiotics, and the mouthwash.i've been on motrin since & everything is fine(no pain at all except when i open my mouth all the way & eat certain foods)
right now i feel like i didn't even have it pulled out. i guess some of you guys are right, some people heal differently than others. i feel lucky that i healed so well. i even worked on saturday & sunday(very busy days) and it didn't seem to aggrevate it at all. so, i'll be working out as i normally do w/o skipping a beat.
sorry for the long post!!! just wanted to give u guys an update
thanx for all the replies guys!!!!!
oh yeah! one more thing, if u guys ever go on a cruise, don't pack anything fragile in your luggage cuz when we load and unload the luggage, all of it gets thrown around like we were throwing out the trash!!;)

any suggestions on how heavy or light i should go? i really don't want it to start bleeding again, if that's even possible(the wound looks pretty much healed & stopped bleeding two days ago)
this week is suppose to be the "heavy week", but i'm not sure if i should do it.

take a 3 day break (i'm sure you have already gotten them pulled by the time you read this).
Also, the intravaneous sedation stuff they give you rocks. I hallucinated and saw 2 bunnies doing it doggystyle on my shoulder. No lie
The whole staff was laughing at me when I went back for my follow up.
Be careful with the painkillers they give you :D

oh yea. You BETTER finish your antibiotics they give you too. I knew a girl that got an infection because she half assed it. they may give you a water syringe (a syring you fill with water) to shoot in your mouth after you eat.

Oh man, they gave me a syringe with an angled tube on the end. They had me inject Chloraseptic down into the sockets for about a week after I had mine removed.
When they warn you not to eat chips, believe them. I was 17 when I had mine out, so I obviously knew more than that stupid oral surgeon did. I ate some Doritos a day or so after my surgery. One of the corners of one of the chips went directly into one of the sockets and about killed me. I guess the oral surgeon wasn't so stupid after all.
