View Full Version : Journals are better than genocide.

06-04-2003, 06:15 PM
I've been hanging around the boards for awhile and it seems like a good time to start a journal. Hopefully this will keep me from getting off track during the summer and i can learn a bit too. Having to post my infant-esque poundages should provide some motivation as well.

Weight training and diet has always interested me, but my training has been rather sporadic and a large percent of the training i have done was dumb in some way.

I'm currently cutting until my birthday on june 23, clean bulk is the plan after that.

BF: I'm guessing 14-16

Bench: 225x1 (havent tested in a month or 2)
Squat: 275x6(pl style, havent maxed for awhile)240x8 OLY style
Deadlift 315x1(done this afternoon, only the 5th time i remember deadlifting and im sure my forms off a bit.)

I'm using a split i stole from belial's journa(not sure if its exact).
Saturday- off
Sunday- Legs

I have to at least pretend that i'm studying for finals, so the first update will be sometime tonight.

Any feedback, flames, spam is appreciated in some way.
Wish me luck.

06-04-2003, 08:07 PM
good luck with the goals bro. you sound like you have a really good build.

o, and here the is the :spam: you wanted ;)

06-04-2003, 08:16 PM
lots of potential...study cuz chicks dig brains...

*sorry lady friend was in the room...get huuuuuuuuuuuge brother!

06-04-2003, 09:09 PM

OHP: 95x10 115x6 and 4 extra push presses w/ slow negatives
I don't know why i'm so bad at these

Sumo Deads: 135x5 225x3 275x1 315x1
Haven't been deadlifting long, but sumo seems more comfortable than conventional

DB OHP: 45'sx6 45x5

Lateral Raises 20's x2x6
I'm not sure if this is normal or if im just really bad at these too.

Random ab work

Diet:im a bit tired so 'good' will have to suffice.

Sleep:8 hours

Comments:none at the moment.

06-04-2003, 09:10 PM
Smurf, Adam thanks for stopping by.

06-05-2003, 06:45 PM
Another quick update.

Did some HIIT, really lacking in intensity though.

decent calorie wise, bit high in carbs.

Sleep: more than enough.

Other comments:
Schools out for the year.
Only thing standing between me and summer is... finals.
:bash: :bash:

if anyone actually reads this, it probably wont be updated much or in much detail until tuesday.

06-05-2003, 07:45 PM
hey no problem bro, good luck with the finals!

06-05-2003, 08:07 PM
good luck on the finals man!

06-06-2003, 12:12 PM
Chest day/1st day of finals

DB bench: warmup, 70sx6, 80sx5
The dbs felt heavy but i thought i had a few more in me on both sets.

Close Grip BP: 135x12 x10

DB Flyes: 30sx4 25sx8
Wow, these are harder than i expected. I feel weak.

Tricep Press(dunno actual name, its sorta like elbows out db skulls from the chest. if that makes any sense at all.)
45sx6 45sx6
not bad. ill kick the weight up next week and try for failure.

Dips: bwx2.5
arms were completely fried at this point, when i get my dip belt i might make these the focal point of the day.

Diet: So far, so good.

Sleep: 7.5 hrs

English was ridiculously easy, finished in 20 minutes.
For the physics exam we were allowed to bring in a sheet front&back with any information we wanted. most people, myself included brought the q&a to every test... and of course the final consisted of: the q&a to every test, in the same order.:evillaugh

Other comments: I'm still fat and weak, but that final just made my day.

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by.

Leg Day

Box Squats(slightly over parallell)
135x5, 225x5 275x5 335x3 365xmiss

Not bad, if i had a belt i wouldve hit the 365.
But then again i was expecting to continue my trend of high rep ATF squats, but competent spotters at my gym are about as frequent as solar eclipses so i had to take advantage.
The ATF's definitely improved my strength tho.

Leg Press
5,6,7 plates x6 7x5 6x5 5x5

These are brutal with minimal rest. but i had more than minimal rest until the last few sets.
Okay overall.

Romanian DL's: warmup, 225x8
These are one of my favorite exercises now. nothing else hits my hamstrings like these.

Diet: ate 2 large pizzas(thin crust) in one sitting over the weekend, but otherwise decent.

Sleep: sporadic, but good.

Song of the day: Definition- Blackstar

Other comments: Happy birthday to; My sister, AJ and Chrissy.
I should add good mornings, my back strength is lagging a bit.

That's it.

06-10-2003, 12:23 PM
Back Day

DB Rows
65x13, 75x9
the latter set was a pr

i really need to get better at these

BB Rows
learning good form on these, just the bar a few times.

Chest Supported Rows
These don't feel comfortable, i gotta get used to BB rows quick.

Incline hammer curls
25sx10 20sx10

Diet: cutting down on the carbs, cut isn't going as well as planned.

Sleep: 6 hours+

Other: Summer officially starts, watchin my diets gonna be much harder.

Song: one forty- nappy roots

*looks around at dead journal*
*runs away*

06-11-2003, 06:05 PM
6/11/03 (i think.)

HIIT- sprints still suck.

My progress on the cut is slowing a bit since i switched off nhe about a month or so ago, so ill post everything i ate and plan to eat today. Any criticism will help.

I'm just starting HIIT btw so ive yet to notice any results from that. And i havent been on eca recently, ill probably pick up more tomorrow

Morning- Cup of coffee w/ ~6oz 1% milk, 1 serving natty pb on ww bread.

2nd meal- Turkey sandwich (5 slices turkey 2 slices ww bread, 1 tbsp mayo)

3rd- Sweet Potato w/ cinnamon, Can of tuna w/ sugar free 1k island

4th- and 5th are forthcoming, i usually dont eat this little but its a basic idea.

Edit: 4th- pasta w/ meat sauce i know, i know but i didnt feel like cooking something myself.

06-12-2003, 11:22 AM

Well, my 3rd shot at heavy deads.
DL 136x6singles 225x3singles 315x2 conventional*
Bar slipped a bit on the 2nd lockout
*wtf? last week conventional 315 wouldnt budge and i got sumo for a single, this week i got 2 conventional and had trouble on 225 sumo(1 of the singles).

Lateral Raises 15s x12 x12

Reverse Flyes 15s x8 x8

Leg Raises 3x12 bw

My deadlift is perplexing me... any insight at all is better than my theory that the skinny guy at the desk hexed my heavy lifts.

06-12-2003, 11:31 AM
Oh and diet so far
1- .5 cup oats w/ 1/2 serving natty pb coffee w/ 1% milk
2-pre w/o 4 oz 1% milk+scoop of casein
3-5 slices turkey on ww bread w/ 1 tbsp mayo
more to come

edit: weighed at 184 yesterday

06-14-2003, 12:14 PM
Update for yesterday:
Was supposed to train chest, couldnt find my ymca card. Going today.

Diet:low in calories, had 2 coronas which probably messed up the macros too.

Sleep: ~8

Other: just got my new eca.

06-17-2003, 11:28 AM
Been awhile since last update:
Diet was a bit off over the weekend, started eca again monday.
HIIT yesterday
Back later today
Diet today and yesterday good so far.

Weight today- 182.5 down 1.5 from last week.

06-17-2003, 02:32 PM
Nice sessions man. The chins will get better in time - do some negatives or some assisted chins to keep the reps up/beneficial. You could do them first (before the DB rows) and see what happens - i prefer to do them first then DB rows afterwards.

Good luck and keep up the hard work.

06-17-2003, 03:10 PM
Thanks for the support eric. I should probably try the chins first, I want to do them weighted eventually but only after i can get 10 easy.

06-25-2003, 05:11 AM
its been awhile, ive slipped a bit.
last few days have been horrible in terms of training and diet last night.

im trying to improve on my 45 minutes of sleep to no avail.
time to eat breakfast ill edit later

edit: got a extra 7 hrs of sleep
Cardio later today
I've decided to give wsb a shot.

06-26-2003, 11:53 AM
Last Ones Left AKA: Wu36 on westside
I decided to just jump right into westside, because I'm dumb and I can do that.

Split will be something like:
Sun: ME Squat
M: ME Bench
Th: DE Bench
F: DE Squat

ill try to do both westside style GPP and more conventional unweighted GPP.

DE Bench today 6/26/03
Speed Bench Triples
used 3 different grips.
i noticed that my lockout is much quicker than the initial push off the chest, anyone care to comment on this?

Tate Press:45's x 6, 6

BB Rows 115x8, 8

Chin ladder down from 5

Pressdowns: 100x10, 10

Bench of Death(Blatantly jacked from SF's journal)
95x 50 total reps
after the 3rd set I got angry at myself and stopped, I never thought 95 would come up slow.

Diet: almost perfect. but it always is without friends to mess it up.

Sleep: 10 hours

Other: starting Martial arts today, something I haven't done for a long long time. Gonna be training Muay Thai and BJJ.

I hereby decree that my back strength is one of the most pathetic things since Kris Kross. My triceps suck as well.

06-29-2003, 03:06 PM
Gonna be in chicago til thursday, ill update if i can.

07-02-2003, 07:30 PM
Update from chicago

The gym by me was useless for westside and DBs only went up to 65 so i had a curl jockey day a random pointless session.

Food in chicago pwns and diet was horrible for 2 days.
Thas it

07-02-2003, 08:09 PM
just relax and have some fun in chicago. I hear the pizza's pretty good

07-04-2003, 10:53 AM
7/4/03 the gyms closed, i'm annoyed.

Ended up with around 1800 cals, carbs a bit high

07-04-2003, 10:53 AM
oh and the deep dish in chicago deserves it's reputation p-man

07-04-2003, 11:45 AM
My personal favorite is Geno's Pizza (spelling). I love the cornbread crust

07-05-2003, 11:21 AM
Going to test my squat max today and then use the box for all future squat work, update pending.

ok, im not in the best of moods so this will be short.
Parallell squats:
135x5 smoked
225x3 smoked
245x3 smoked
315x1 smoked
340x1 like a dutchmaster

My walkouts on anything over 350 suck, and i lose the rep before it even starts. I feel strong on the descent and then completely bomb. I feel like such a weak bitch of an asian.

My lower back and hamstrings were completely done while my quads and glutes were fine.

yeah, i suck

did some hurried assistance work then just walked out muttering to myself.

07-06-2003, 10:43 AM
i planned to do cardio today, but my lower body is objecting at the moment.

Also i think i'd make more progress if i had a clear defined goal so time to think some up.

07-06-2003, 04:05 PM
Diet so far today: half bagel, cream cheese and iced tea at friends house
2: the tuna im bout to make.

edit: i gotta remember to update these.

07-08-2003, 11:31 AM
went to the doctor, im only 5'9 :(

diets probably gonna be over maintenance today.
so far it consists of 1 12" cheese pizza

07-09-2003, 10:56 AM
Diet went to hell yesterday after the pizza, but I barely cracked 2500 cals.
I've been undereating a bit on my non cheat days, more protein needs to be consumed.

Speed benches and MMA today.

07-09-2003, 04:48 PM
I missed MMA today, compliments of Rt.4.
Not in a great mood.
Went to the gym, had a shi**y workout. Tried to test bench, my head was somewhere else, ended up getting 215x2.5 so i probably cant bench 230, but ill leave it as my max for short term motivation.
My casein was thrown out by someone in the house, whey would probably be better anyway.

07-10-2003, 12:37 PM
July 10 2003
1: Ham/Cheese sandwich on ww ~500 cals
2:i forget, i did eat tho
3:Lot of chicken some gravy, some cornbread
there was a glass of 1% in there somewhere too
my summer sleep habits really kill my diet, i lost all desire to eat after midnight.
ill try and eat some more.

Cardio- hour of MMA

07-13-2003, 01:46 AM
Horribly underate today, ephedra blunts my appetite a little too much, so diet was ****.

Uhh its late i dun feel like typing a long winded response.

07-13-2003, 05:52 AM
No worry....one day of poor eating isn't gonna hurt a thing

07-14-2003, 12:15 PM
pruneman: yeah it's not that bad, and I've managed to get a few friends to start training with me, so hopefully their eating habits will improve when I'm with them. It'll be cool to have actual training partners too.

07-15-2003, 12:37 PM
i can see my abs today, that is all.

07-15-2003, 02:17 PM
Congrats on the abs!!!
I hope your friend can become a good training partner. I have been trying desparately to find someone to lift with, but haven't had much luck. I think that a training partner would be great...probably push you harder than you normally would push yourself. Peace man

07-18-2003, 03:11 PM
Uhh i did 10 chins the other day...
my gym membership ran out, gonna start a garage gym w/ a friend.

07-27-2003, 10:50 AM
Cousins were in from cali, and i slacked off a bit.
Time to get everything together again.
