For an example i could barely finish a bowl of oatmeal this morning before feeling full now its mid-afternoon and i still have no apettite. What can i do to increase my appetite? woud meal replacements be a good idea?

eat more often -- this may help
eat calorie-dense foods

and yes, MRP shakes and bars can help you get more calories in a smaller volume of food

yes.

i know your problem intimately.

eat more food , more often, and eventually your appaetite will catch up.

it helps if you plan your foods and give yourself an eatign schedule too. to help with compliance.

Whoa I'm 5'7 and weigh more than you. I have the opposite problem I am always hungry and need to eat every 2-3 hours or I get real irritable. If I where you Id just (((force feed))) myself even if I wasnt hungry. Eat like 5 meals a day with high cals. Remember though (FORCE FEED YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE TOO!) Do you have a set diet?

I found it hard to adjust @ 1st, the problem is that your body is used to eating 3 times a day.
Your body has its way of working out when you eat and it prepares its juices for these times.
Have you ever woken up @ 4 am for a trip or similar, and tried to eat breakfast...you just cant u feel ill and unable too eat.

When i started to eat like mad i had to 1st, eat @ six evenly spaced times.. i set them 3 hrs apart as usual.
At each meal i ate what i could manage, without forcing..
gradually over a month or two, it became no problem to eat a full size meal in these times.

The basic idea is to work out what calories you will be eating,

im 135lbs and im bulking...so im eating 3500 a day.

i split that into six meals and aim for 600 per meal (cos u wont eat every crumb will you?)
Work out lots of meals that contain the correct balance of protein (40g from a meat, fish, dairy source)
some good carbs like ww bread or jacket potatos (half the cals of the meal say 250-300)
and then top it off with healthy fats such as nuts, walnut oil, healthy spreads, fish oils(if you eat oily fish include that because its part of the balance)

so a typical meal would be

100g of tuna
2 slices wholemeal bread with healthy oil based spread
banana (big ish)
handful of nuts (20-30g)
and dont forget that pint of water!!

Read food labels like mad and get a good idea of the foods you eat in terms of cals, fat, protein and carbs.

another thing that will increase your appetite

BEING ACTIVE!

I feel a lot less hungry whilst having a day off work, in fact i sometimes eat less on those days.
It doesnt mean running around, but something like going to the shops, or doing some stuff about the house. Lifting should make you hungry too.

Good luck anyway.:)

Thanx for the help guys what are some calorie dense foods that dont have alot of volume?

lazymeal:

No i dont have a set diet i eat rather sporadically each day. Believe me i try to force feed myself all the time but it's hard without gauging and becoming nauseous.

alexbb:

i would be stuffed after just the tuna sandwhich, but i guess i have to gradually build up my apetite to be able to eat more for one meal.

nuts, natural peanut butter, oils (fish oil, flax oil, olive oil)

Liquid calories can also be a big help when you have trouble eating whole foods. Check out the recipe forum for some shake ideas.

you could try drinking your calories.

take a cup or 2 of oats, 2-3 cups of milk, 1-2 scoops of whey, and a couple tablespoons of PB, and then add in a couple packets of splenda. put it all in a blender, and blend it all. and then drink it down.

i have/had the exact same problem. So my solution? Well, eat like i did regularly. And from there only add in about one meal, for which i had to stuff myself. Where I got my other cals? Weight gainer/protein shakes. I took those in place of meals, until my stomach grew to a point where I got replace another shake with a real meal. For me, it went about a meal a week. Meaning, I was able to add a full meal about once a week.

Helped me, may or may not help you though, cuz i don't have a fast metabolism, just medium with a small appetite.
