I'm trying to up my cals in my diet. I'm currently eating about 3200-3400 a day. I'm hoping to hit about 4200-4500 cals a day. I figure about 3500 is my maintenance level. Now I was thinknig about adding some fats. So here are a couple of questions.

1. Homeyield suggested I should change from 2% to whole milk. I drink about a gallon a day. Would the extra 800 or so cals from this be good. Is the extra fat in milk ok while bulking?

2. Bought some fish caps todays. I'm thinking about taking 10 a day(split 5 and 5), are there better times than others to take them?

3. When I was running my cals I saw that there are tons of grams of fat in chopped meat(something like 40 grams in 8 oz). Does any of the fat melt aware due to cooking? Should I go to leaner meat? The 80/20 is so cheap at the supermarket by me, so I eat it like its going out of style. I can get 90/10 for even cheaper at BJ's, which is kinda a pain to get to. Should I go to the leaner cut or not worry about it?

Thanks for any help.

4,500 cals at 163 is a lot. I'm 240 and consume 3200.

you may want to re-evalutate your food choices and macros before increasing your cals.

LAM: I eat a very clean diet. I have a metabolism that can't get enough food. I've been at about 3200-3400 cals for a month now and haven't gained a single lb.

I think there are better ways of getting in extra cals besides drinking whole milk, and the reason being milk fat is mainly saturated. You could add in more healthy sources of fat (olive oil, nuts, natural peanut butter, etc) or just more food in general.

I would take them with meals that contain carbs so as the n-3 fats will not be oxidized by the liver.

Some of the fat will drain off when cooking, but I think the 90% lean would be a better choice.

Brad - Is it necessary to take FOC's with carbs? The only time I eat carbs during the day is the morning which is when I train, and I was told to stay away from fats around the time you work out. I take my FOC's in the evening with mostly protein/fat based meals. Does it really make a big difference?

My reply was mainly based on the fact that CPhafner was trying to gain weight:)

You want to try and make sure that the EPA and DHA make it into fat cells so this is the reasoning behind taking fish oil when lipolysis is halted.

I think you will be fine taking it with your regular whole food meals and the easiest answer would just be to take more fish oils which would help ensure that some of the EPA/DHA are making it into the fat cells.
