View Full Version : "Gaining"-powder or just Protein-powderr

Hi everyone!
Iv'e been thinking about this for a long time now.
If I want to gain as much muscle as possible, should I go for the "gainers" ( you know these with both carbs and protein) or should i stick with regular protein-powder?
I allways considering myself as "bulking", because i really don't think Iv'e got enough mass! (does anyone?)
To be honest, 'im kinda scared of the "cutting" thing. To loose mass that you worked so hard for feels pretty scary! hehe...
well anyway I've allways been using protein powder because I've heard that "gainers" will make you fat!
well i guess alot of things can make you fat, but in someway Iv'e thought that gainers are for really small people who need to put on some fat to gain muscle!
But I don't know really...
I'm definitely not lean, I have some fat to get rid of someday, but now i want to gain more size!
By the way, my stats are 195 lbs at 6'.
Any reflections on this??
what do you guys use during bulk??

Well most weight gainers are composed mainly of protein powder and maltodextrin, and buying the two seperate would be better less expensive.

Excess calories will make you gain bf, not just weight gainers:)

Products such as weight gainers are best used pre/post workout IMO, but they can be helpful when you are struggling to get in enough cals for the day. Although you can make a high calorie shake quite easily with a little protein powder and some other common foods found in most kitchens. You can check out the recipe forum for some good ideas if you are interested.


what do you guys use during bulk??


I just use whey and dextrose as far as pre/post workout goes, and then whole foods at other times during the day.

well I take dextrose as well, mainly to support my creatine intake though...!
should I take the dextrose also when im not taking creatine?

Yes, the dextrose will refill muscle glycogen after training.

Malto would probably be a better choice, but yes you can use dextrose preworkout.
