Is flax known as anything else?

When I ask for it in health food stores I get funny looks - like what the hell are you talking about?

Is there a differnt name I could use that they might understand?

Flax seeds or flax seed oil ? they should understand if they work in health food store.. if they don't tell them to find another job!

I haven't been able to find it either, no grocery stores around here carry it. They carry veggy oil and vinegar oil, thats about it.

I had a look at dictionary.com and found this:

flax (flks)
n.

A widely cultivated plant, Linum usitatissimum, having pale blue flowers, seeds that yield linseed oil, and slender stems from which a textile fiber is obtained. (My emphasis.)

So does this mean linseed oil is the same thing as flax oil? Or is one a subset of the other or something?

yes linseed and flax are the same thing
If you live in the US, go to Walgreens..
They sell them there really cheap and Walgreens brand
multivitamins and other specific vitamins are dirt cheap.
Its like 1 cent a tablet.
Flax seed oil 1000 mg tablets is like 5 cent a tab.

Thanks Chris.

Maybe it's just different terminology.....I live in Australia and Linseed oil is quite common here.

If it's the exact same thing, I'll get some tomorrow. :)

Yes I know what you mean.
They sell it in liquid form too

The only thing I dont like about liquid form is that its very sensitive to light, temp, and oxygen.
It will lose potency if exposed or not stored properly.
I use gelcaps btw not tablets. So far its more convenient for me

Some larger grocery stores carry flax seed in the bulk foods area and/or the health food area. If you can't find it anywhere else, try a food co-op/organic food store...

Target stores carry NatureMade brand gelcaps too...
