View Full Version : Is this really Cardio?

OK, bear with me. I'm an old man and jogging isn't something I want to try. OK, only 48 but I fell older when I try to run.

Every morning first thing I take a walk. It is a brisk walk up and down a steep hill near my house. It take about 5 minutes to do a lap from top to bottom and back again. Each lap, I am defintely sucking wind near the top on the steepest incline. So I am walking fast, not strolling. I do 8 laps a day and spend about 45 minutes total from house to hill and back.

Does this count as cardio? Do I need to do jogging or something else to truly drop weight and improve stamina?

Sure it is. Just continue to build up the intensity gradually and you'll be jogging in no time.

walking is very effective cardio

jogging burns more cals

most of the pro's walk for cardio in the weeks before a contest

Actually, I've been doing it a while and it doesn't seem to get any easier. As to jogging, I think I might need a better pair of shoes to ease the impact.
