hey guys...got a question for y'all.....

I've been an herbalist for over 10 years now, and pretty much rely on herbs to resolve all the usual minor complaints.....and as the title says, it's time to re-stock.....

so my question is...what herbs do you rely on...daily, from time to time, etc. i've got my basic stash, but it's always good to rotate in something new.

here's what i keep on hand:

Daily - herbal ECA, gum guggul, green tea, forskolin

PRN -

Goldenseal, Myrrh Gum - antibiotics

Garlic, Ginseng - Immune support

Aloes, juniper, thyrme, lavender, chapparral - skin support

dandelion, chickweed, senna, psyllium - detox

ginger, peppermint - digestive system

this pretty much covers any illness i might encounter through life.....

what about y'all? any new ones? anything else i should try out? what do you like?

Do you guys feel that herbal supplements really work? Or is it all in your head?

I think a lot of herbal supps do work. There are some that are total B.S. like Ginseng for example. The only one I have right now is Dandelion Root. But would d-bol count? :D

i don't know...ifd used for the right purpose, and of the right quality, Ginseng is very good.

i don't know what effects y'all are tying to get from it...but it's an alterative. What it does is kind of maintain homeostasis in the body...so say your insulin is too high, or too low, it will bring it back into balance. It can give a bit of an energy rush too. I've got some other anecdotal evidence which i'm really not gonna share here. But suffice to say...it does a good job in keeping things in balance.

and yes....herbal remedies work, (provided you use the right herbs the right way - which is key). And oftentimes work much better than prescirptions without the the sides.

btw - black alpha - how do you like gingko?

You're so weird Tryska. The only herbal stuff I take daily is ECA, green tea, and cranberry extract.

I have no clue, when I worked at the supp shop he gave me a ton of it, what else am I supposed to do with it? It's suppose to be good for the kidneys or something too.

I don't use herbs per say, but I use a lot of supplements. tryska you may want to include black tea. its polyphenols are more active than green tea.

gooface - you can send me some of it..*lol* yeah...cranberry is good for the kidneys and bladder.....because it raises the PH, i believe? of your pee, thereby preventing infections.

breeze....yeah - black tea, would be good, but for the increased caffeine, which i try to limit (1 c. coffee, and the ECA) although i suppose i could swap the morning coffee for tea, and lower the general caff intake somewhat.

question about kava kava:

it works as a muscle relaxer / pain reliever?

any similar to prescription pain killers?

actually kava works nothing like conventional meds....it's actually a mood drug...reliving anxiety and depression, and from what i understand it works by exerting effects on the limbic system (the primitive brain).

it's kinda like a sedative, anti-anxiety type relaxant...not a muscle relaxant.

I use Kava Kava whenever I can't sleep. 1 Kava Kava with my ZMA and I'm out.

Can ginseng help in homeostasis?
If yes,it would be one of the most valuable supps around, because when homeostasis is ok,then your health is ok.

Any change in homeostasis may produce several imbalances to your body and may lead to death if it doesn't get back to its normal levels.

that's it's whole popint of being, black. particularly good herb for diabetics, but it's like a whole body stabilizer. it works on all the systems of the body to one extent or the other...perhaps why it got the rep for being a sexual enhancer....(in those people that might have had hormonal imbalances)

What is gum guggul and what does it do? Also what does the dandelion help? Thanks:D

hey marcel....gum guggul (guggulsterones) is actually a resin that has been used for something like 4000 years in ayurvedic medicine to get rid of fat. fromt he 1970's it's been touted as great for lowering cholesterol. the way it does both these things is by increasing iodine uptake in the thyroid, therefore increasing thryoid output of T4. It also enhances t4 to t3 conversion (T3 being the main metabolism hormone). Also, if your body has adequate amounts of T3, your cholesterol tends to be lower...not quite sure what the tie in is between thyroid function and cholesterol...but there is a connection somewhere there. *lol* Also, besides metabolism regulation, T3, according to latest research seems to be a major player in brain hormones....like up there with the big neurotransmitters liek serotonin. It's my favorite at the moment. well really it's tied with goldenseal and myrrh, which are my perennial favorites for different reasons..hee hee.

dandelion is a diuretic. it will make you shed water like crazy...as a matter of fact, in France back in the day, it had the nickname piss-de-lits because when kids used to go out and harvest it for eating or making into wine or whatever, they used to wet the beds, because the diuretic effects would come from contact with the active ingredients seeping into the skin of their hands fromt he plants....*lol* (oh - piss-de-lits =wet-the-beds)

and there is your herbal lesson for the day.....;)
