A kcal is 1000 cals but when people say they're eating 3000 cals they're in fact eating 3000 000 cals, or 3000 kcals. The abreviature cal is erroneously used instead of kcals.

but i found about a cup of oatmeal is about 157 kcal with water so that is 157 000 cals. How is that possible when most of us normally eat between 2500 to 3500 cals per day???

You use a capitol "C" for a 1000 calories.

1 Calorie = 1,000 calories = 1kcal
