They aren't that hard to do if you practice them a little bit. We used to have a joke that was something like "you can't do a kip up? Pfft. And you consider yourself a martial artist?". Of course, more people in my old Tae Kwon Do class could do kipups than in my Muay Thai classes but the guys in Muay Thai were tougher so obviously the joke was just a joke.
