isnt adding some fat (flax perhaps) into your pre-workout shake a good idea, since fat will slow down digestion thus providing the body with more for a sustained energy source thru-out ur workout.

and obviously have ur post shake with no fat...

Well liquid fats, such as flax, will not slow the absorption of your shake. Water and oil do not mix, so the oil will just float on top of the liquid in the stomach.

If you are referring to a shake that is to be consumed immediately preworkout (~30 minutes), then I would not worry about adding fat to the shake. The whole point in a preworkout shake is to go ahead and make sure that nutrients are available to the body immediately post workout. If you add fat to the shake it might not be completely digested, so therefore the nutrients would not be available immediately post workout.

If you are training for extended periods of time (>60 minutes), you might consider sipping on a carb drink of some sort, but otherwise you should not have any problems consuming high GI carbs and protein immediately preworkout.
