When i was looking though the threads on another well know bodybuilding messageboard, i came across somone saying that:

You dont count as a bodybuilder until you weigh 200lbs

I think this is slightly ignorant and in my opinion you are a body builder as soon as your dedicated to live the lifestyle and work for it. Does somone who weighs 250lbs deserve more respect that somone who weighs 170lbs ? And what weight would you considder somone a bodybuilder ?

Debate :)

Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. That's a very ignorant statement. Not everyone SHOULD weigh 200 lbs. and some should weigh much more. If someone is only 4 feet tall, there's no WAY he/she should weigh in at 200 lbs, right?

It sounds very ignorant.

It depends on height too. I think you are a bodybuilder when you devote to it, but you become an accomplished bodybuilder when you are overweight with low bf.

Moral of the story: Don't browse other boards:tuttut:;)

It's all about height!

And to answer your two questions:

1)No
2)Again, it's about height. What if I told you I was 170lbs @ 2%.

Would you think I was big? If i was 5'0" then yes, but if I was 6'5" then hell no!

That quote you mentioned above, it wasn't from a website that starts with "m" was it?! LOL ;)

I'm gonna add that to my sig quote, pusher! Very inspiring! :) It's because I know that what bbs can accomplish does not depend on the scales. I know it but it's hard to convince myself until I read your line. Suddenly, it became obvious.

There's weight classes for bodybuilders if you are competiting. Bantam weight starts around is 143 and under. Sounds like the dude was just being an ass.

gotta be 200+?

someone should tell Frank Zane that he has to give back those Mr. O trophies... he's not a 'real' bodybuilder

Rofl, yeah must have meant 200+lb's If..

1) Theyre freakishly huge BB's.
2) Theyre Bulked and have High BF% to go with it.

200+? The Guy was probably tall himself as well as a fat kid and attained the weight easily. Must have no clue, but hey. Opinions are like @$$holes. Everybody has one. :)

Anyone can be a bodybuilder. Think of the words meaning, building a body. Whether its fat loss of muscle gain or a combo its all going towards building a better body. You don't have to wear posing trunks to be a bodybuilder.

I just hit 200 pounds, and now I fluctuate between a coupla pounds over and a coupla pounds under, depending on water weight and stuff, so does that mean I'm a bodybuilder when I weigh 201 and I'm not when I weigh 199? No, it just means that I am a certain weight. Bodybuilding (according to websters) is "the practice of lifting weights and performing certain calisthenics to develop a strong body." Little off, I mean they need to add the dedication to those practices as well as eating right. That means, IMO (just because I need hope) that anyone, regardless of where they may be at weight, BF, or strenght wise qualifies as a work in progress in the world of bodybuilding.

However, I really would like to see a 4 footer jacked up to around 200 pounds with very low BF. That would be one stacked mutha.
