I love working out and eating healthy foods. But I love pop... I was wondering if its ok to drink pop, as well as water, and milk. Like will pop have an affect on my muscles, or diet?

It's basically empty calories so you would be better drinking diet varieties but nothing wrong with having it once and a while.

I drink diet. If I drank regular, I'd have 1000 calories a day just in soda.

Excess fructose consumption would not be beneficial, for numerous reasons, so I would stick to diet soda.

I know you are attempting to gain weight, but I would not recommend getting those extra calories from soda.

If you have to have it, drink diet. And if you can get it, drink Diet Rite. I believe it's the only brand that uses sucralose instead of aspartame.

What about drinking a litre of fresh orange juice everyday. I do this. Is all that fructose bad?

It is not bad, and if that is your only source of fructose for the day I would not really worry about it. I think the amount of calories that you are consuming is more of an issue, seeing as how orange juice is a calorie dense food. I think you would be better off eating an orange instead of drinking a glass of juice.

If I remember correctly orange juice is ~50/50 glucose/fructose, which means you are getting in the neighborhood of 40g of fructose, just from orange juice.

EDIT: I am assuming that you are consuming the orange juice over the course of the day and not all at one sitting.

Taking in that much fructose at one sitting would not be ideal IMO. I would cut it down to maybe one glass per meal, and if you want more you could have another glass at your next meal.

Small amounts of fructose can be beneficial, but excessive amounts can lead to spillover into fat stores.

Do artificial sweeteners retain water or no?

Fructose itself would not be horrible as it is a rather non-insulinogenic sugar however I think you were referring to high-fructose corn syrup which I agree with you across the board about. That stuff is a like raw sewage polluting our body.
