I bought a bunch of canned mackerel in water it was on sale, each serving has....
100 calories
5g fat
1.5g saturated fat
13g protein
6 servings per can!

It's heavy on the calories compared to tuna so I'm wondering if it contain any EFA's and if so would it be a good source for them or is the saturated fat too high?

They are 15 oz cans but each can really only has 11 oz drained. The serving size is drained cause each serving is 2 oz, and it says servings per can about 6. I'll prolly eat like a half a can for lunch then eat the other half later. Half a can is 300 calories 39g protein, not to shabby. Really inexpensive too, like 50 cents a can, I pay 44 cents a can for tuna so not so bad.

It also has 20% calcium per serving. No comment on the taste, haven't tryed it yet hehe. I will though thanks for the reply pruneman.

yeah I eat a bunch of canned mackerel, there's a really good way my mom fixes it up :)

Eating some now with mustard not bad at all! I expected it to be really I dunno "fishy" lol. How does your mom fix it up?

she gets some jalapeno peppers, vegetables, potatoes, this spicy powder stuff, 2 cans of mackerel, and some water I think and then puts all of it on high heat on the stove and all of it blends together and makes like a spicy/cajun taste, pretty good~
