View Full Version : Question about Protein intake.

So yeah my trainer tells me to take about 200-250g protein per day with less than 40g of fat. I weight about 152lbs and want to gain some serious weigh. But I want to know if such high protein will cause any problem such as liver failure over time etc.
I don't know too much, so please educate me.

I read somewhere that it is 0.8 grams per pound of LBM. Anyways just shoot for 1gram per pound of bodyweight, you don't need 200-250 grams.

1 gram per pound is really all you need
unless you had pre-existing kidney problems, then you don't need to worry about any kind of kidney failure down the road
less than 40 g of fat is low IMO, you need healthy fats (EFA's - Essential Fatty Acids) - and you want a good ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fats as well...

there is no reason to keep fat that low as long as your fat sources are good, eg nuts, olive oil, canola oil, seeds, etc.
also fat is a good way to get lots of calories, which is important if you want to gain weight

any other suggestions. keep on coming...
I want to push > 200 g for about a month or so. Once I get to the level I want then I want 1g per body weight.
I don't know, the guy i spoke to was a professional bodybuilder and he also knows king kamali (out of falls church, va).
down the road I am gonna snap some pix with them and post it, but for now no way. 2 small.

well if he's a pro bb'er, then there's an obvious reason he would advocate 200+ grams
