Question for you...a friend of my had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago. She also had the hyperthyroid thing going. However, she has gained 50 lbs since the operation and this was while working out, etc... She's doing the estrogen thing, but the docs won't give her anything for her thyroid unless they take it out. What kind of advice can I give her? She takes good care of herself and everything. She is also very receptive to alterative medicine. As a result of this, she had never been overweight in her life until this operation. It's jacking with her self-esteem big time. Please help me help her *grovel* Thanks.

01-03-2003, 07:57 AM
are they giving her radioactive iodine treatment?

a little test with that estrogen would be a good thing, btw.

with a situation like this, with hyperthyroid cuasing metabolism issues, i honestly would opt to have it taken out, and then be given a replacement thyroid dosage. if it were me it would be a T3/T4 combo, but that owuld depend on the doctor. In a way, i can see where they don't want to give her additional T-4, because if she's hyper, you'll never really know when she goes toxic.

01-03-2003, 06:13 PM
Thanks. She's going to see the endrocrinolgists here for the first time this week. She was being seen in Arizona before. I was telling her that she probably needed test or something like that. The aren't giving her radioactive iodine. As a matter of fact, all she gets is the estrogen. Hoping these navy docs can help her out. Thanks.

01-04-2003, 11:22 AM
well if she is truly hyperthyroid (some people react with weightgain even tho there thyroid is hyperactive) the route they usuall take is either surgery to take the thyroid out, or radioactive iodine treatment to kill it off. they then put the person on a full replacement does of t/4. some forward thinking docs will do a t3/t4. I hope the Navy docs are forward thinking.

01-04-2003, 06:42 PM
So do I. Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to her so she can take it to the docs and piss them off :D

Push-Courtney Gym, 1600-1710 hrs
Walking lunges w/ broomstick-3x15 This was a warmup/stretch for the lower body.
Bench-1x10@40 (yeah!), 2x8@35 (Couldn't even put the db's into position for a 2nd set @ 40. But I did it which means it will be better next time! Go Me!)
Squats-1x10@95, 1x10@100, 1x10@105 (Going up more next time.)
Cable Lateral Shoulders-3x10@33 (Partials because the first 2 plates are fused together and I couldn't lift them. But I tried)
Leg/Calve Press-3x15@250 (Will finally be adding weight next time)
DB Shoulder Press-3x10@20
Seated Calves-3x15@125 (add)
Overhead Triceps-3x10@40
Standing Calves-3x15@160 (add)
V-bar Tricep Pressdowns-1x15@70, 2x10@70 (ow!)

Yay!!! I finally did the 40# db's for bench!
Haven't been challenging myself enough. Especially on lower body so I'm adding a little weight at a time to see what I can really handle. My immediate squat goal is to have a plate on either side. And do full squats unlike the majority of women at the gym here who only go down like 1/4 of the way.
[mini-rant]Gonna be participating in a base exercise this week so I may not be able to make it to the gym. They say that they want it as real world as possible, but if I'm not at my phone when they call because I'm at the gym lifting, they raise merry hell.
I sooo can't wait for my next assignment. Only 7 months to go! [/mini-rant]
Anyway, I want to thank all of you who have been supportive and have freely given advice, commentary, spam-cans, etc... It has been appreciated.

That's all!

01-05-2003, 11:07 AM
Can you give us some advance warning if a war is going to start up? j/k

01-06-2003, 12:27 AM
sure, like they're gonna tell me before it happens...NOT!!!

Yates Row-3x8@90
Hammer Iso Leg Curl-3x10@25 per leg
DB Bicep Curl-1x12@20, 3x5@20
Hanging Leg Raise-Didn't happen
Concentration Curl-Didn't happen

Notes: :swear: I could not get on the hyperextension or the hanging leg raise. Had to wait for half the stuff that I needed (except for the DL's), then I got frustrated and left before I started to go off on people. :swear: Yep...I just love the new year :)
Still working on the challenging myself bit. Gonna go up more on the DL's next time around. Turns out that the base-ex doesn't start till Friday. Gonna try HIIT tomorrow. You guys can fight over who will give my eulogy...

You can't be a rastafarian. Unless there is a new sect of ninjas called "The Rastafarian Bunch" or something equally hokey. Besides, methinks that your paint job is all wrong. Not that I have a problem with this, they may be hip to change but...I dunno...are they equal opportunity?

Squats 1x12@105, 1x12@110, 1x10@115
Bench 3x8@40
Leg Press 1x15@250, 1x10@275, 1x10@300
PecDek 1x10, 9, & 8@60
Hammer Iso Leg Ext 3x5@35# per side
Cable Lateral Shoulders 3x8@20
Seated Calves 3x10@130
Overhead Shoulders 3x10@20
Standing Calves 3x10@160
Rope Pressdowns 3x8@70

Notes: Gonna go up on squats, leg press, seated calves and overhead shoulders next push day. Gonna stay with the others till I'm more comfortable at that weight.
Tried the Hammer Iso Leg ext for the 1st time and the jury's still out on that one.
Will not be doing standing calves on Cybex equipment again. I feel it more in my painful back than in my calves.
Only had time for 1 tricep exercise because I was pressed for time.
Still no cardio and sleep sucked. Diet was decent.
'kay folks, that's pretty much it.

01-09-2003, 05:04 PM
You pressdown some impressive weight. To me it looks way out of proportion to your other lifts. You are the tricep queen.

01-09-2003, 05:10 PM
I've always been strong on the rope pressdowns for some reason. That and calves. It doesn't make sense to me either.

01-11-2003, 08:02 PM
Extremely Abbreviated Pull-xraygirl's digs, 1100-1125 hrs

The base exercise has started so I'm on telephone stand-by until sometime next weekend. So, I had to use the 30# & 15# db that I had sitting around.

SLDL's-3x15 w/30# dbs
Bent Rows-3x10 w/ 30# dbs
Zottman curls-3x10@15#

That's all folks. Like I said, abbreviated. My boss said that going to the gym is not a good enough reason to not be by the phone. :swear: Considering retiring before getting promoted. Retiring as an E-7 has been a goal from the very beginning, but my BS threshold has pretty much been reached. It's just not worth the stress and migraines.

01-16-2003, 04:28 AM

Looks like your journal needs a bit of TLC ;)

01-16-2003, 04:48 AM
Hi Franji!
Still on telephone stand-by so no gym for me. Also working 12 hr shifts. Up at 4:00 in the morning just to make sure that I'm ready for work on time. Out of work at 6:00 at night. Thank goodness this base-exercise ends tomorrow, unless someone does something so phenomenally stupid that the commander extends it. Hey, it can and does happen.
Bought some new running shoes yesterday during an extremely brief lunch break. Mizuno WaveRiders. Can't wait to break those babies in! If the exercise ends tomorrow night, this girl is going running! To the gym on both Saturday and Sunday. Wanna get a good assessment of my strength before my cycle jacks things up. I have at most, a week and a half then I'll be in a holding pattern for about a week. I wish I was one of those lucky women who actually become stronger during their cycles.
Thanks for stopping by my journal. I needed to ramble some :D

01-16-2003, 08:35 AM
Base exercises are so much fun  It will be over soon and then back to the ordinary military life....

01-16-2003, 08:40 AM
Neat new journal, xray! You're starting 2003 with a vengeance :)

01-16-2003, 02:20 PM
GB-Ordinary military life...ha! This place eats it's young and spits out the bones. Well at least the AF base does.

IceRgrrl-I'm trying. Life keeps getting in the way though. :D

01-16-2003, 10:27 PM
Don't ya just love the way life keeps getting in the way of the training? All life and no training make HY a dull boy. :D

I think you do more on the pressdowns than I do.

01-16-2003, 10:33 PM
I doubt that. I think that they have the poundages posted wrong.

01-16-2003, 10:41 PM
I can't do anything over 80. At least that's what the stack says. CLose to it then. I'm still impressed. Just don't deadlift and make me faint again. *lol*

01-16-2003, 10:46 PM
Damn! And that was the next thing on my agenda. Oh well... ;)

01-16-2003, 10:53 PM
You just couldn't wait until you had a chance to get your gait checked could ya...had to get the new running shoes? huh...I like Mizuno's, but I'm a bit too heavy a runner to use them. I think as far as the exotic shoe variety goes (anything that's not Nike, Reebok, Brooks, Adidas, or Saucony) my favorites are Diadoras. I field tested their motion control shoe....it was about one of the sweetest shoes ever...plus since I was field testing I got it for free. :) Anyway...don't get me started on running shoes because I go on forever. hehe

Oh yeah...

That's for almost getting me castrated!

Did you know that the spam smiley is case sensitive? :p
I don't want to wait until August to get my gait checked. That's why I just went ahead and bought them. So there! :p again!
Just read your Lou journal entry. If it makes you feel better, that damn Johnny Cash son started playing in my head as soon as I saw the title.

01-16-2003, 11:47 PM
Yeah! Base-ex ends in 15 minutes!
*does the happy-joy dance*

01-16-2003, 11:59 PM
Look at it again smarty pants. And as far as help picking shoes....
<--------would have gladly helped. I don't even need to look at you run...but okay...fine...I know when I'm not needed *sulks in corner*

glad you're off now. *does happy dance too, just for sh*ts and giggles*

oh....one more time....for good measure....

01-17-2003, 02:03 AM
Thanks EC. I used to walk/run on the insides of my feet big time. But I started working on it years ago and now pretty much stay centered on my feet. But if I don't stay on top of it, they'll start to go inward again.

01-17-2003, 02:04 AM
Oh, and as for your spam can...that editing feature is nice, yes?

Pull Session-Courtney Gym, 1540-1625 hrs.
SLDL: 3x8@100
PullDowns: 3x8@100
Hyperextensions: 15@10, 15@15, 15@20 (was holding db's against my chest)
T-Bar Rows: 3x10@??? (I put a 25 plate on it, but I have no idea what the built-in poundage was on the machine.
Single Leg Curls: 3x10@40
DB Biceps: 3x8@20
Hanging Leg Raises: 3x10

Well, today's workout was choppy at best. Just couldn't get in the groove. I'm also having my cycle related joint angst so if I can just maintain for another week and a half, I'll be going up in poundages again. Tried to preacher curl. For some reason, I can't do these. It's frustrating  In the hour that I was gone, my children managed to trash out both the living room and the kitchen. They also shorted out the circut that runs the TV (hah! that'll teach the little buggers)
Got to run last night and that was most excellent  My new shoes required no breaking in so I'm happy.

Non-workout related stuff: Keep reading on the forum how great SYOD is so I got the CD today. I'm not loving it. Sorry folks.
That is all.

xraygirl, out...

01-18-2003, 03:42 AM
I cant do preachers either... I dont really care. I prefer bb or db curls anyway, and im half assed about bicep training in the first place.

did you mean SOAD?
I dont know any band called SYOD lol

01-18-2003, 05:20 AM
oops...SOAD. I'm not impressed. Oh well, I'm a dork :D
I try not to be half assed about arm training because I don't want to be one of those middle-aged chicks with flabby arms. Zottman curls are my favorite bicep exercise. Maybe I'll just do those instead of regular curls from now on.

01-18-2003, 05:54 AM
Not training biceps as well would not get one flabby arms... a high bf% would

01-18-2003, 07:37 AM
Just curious as to what branch of the military you are in? I am sure you have been asked this numerous times. I was in the Navy for a while so I know it can be frustrating sometimes. Enjoy reading the journal, and keep up the good work.

01-18-2003, 09:08 AM
Bradley...xraygirl is in summer camp...errr I meant the air force. Well summer camp for us marines.

xray...if you dont like SOAD then just mail the CD to me and I will more than gladly slip it into the cd player in my cobra.

So you live in the towers at courtney? Or were those towers at foster? I cant really remember...

01-18-2003, 04:45 PM
Bradley, I'm in the AF. *smacks G-B upside his head for disrespecting a fellow military member*
Sure, I'll send you the CD if you want it. It's the one without the cover that says "Steal this..." I'll send a few bottles of Acquarius too if you want it.
Nope, refuse to move on base. I managed the impossible for here. Found a big house with a big fenced in yard on a dead end street. No neighbors and only about 8 min from Courtney commissary. That place is the best kept secret on the island. Everybody goes to the Kadena & Foster commissaries. This means that the Courtney one is always well stocked. During the dock strike a few months ago, it was the only place with real milk.

01-18-2003, 10:50 PM
oh come on xray...you know I was just giving you a hard time.

I would LOVE a few bottles of acquarius!!! That stuff is so good. If you are serious about sending me the CD and the acquarius then I will PM you my addy and I will need yours to send you some loot for shipping and the acquarius.

And the courtney commisary is a good place....like you stated, most go to the one at kadena. I was on comrats so I made a weekly trip to the commisary at courtney. Have you had a chance to go to the military resort/recreation camp that is way up at the north end of the island? Cant remember what its called....but what a nice place. Plenty of cabbins to rent, ski boats, jet ski's, dive trips...and the water up there is unbelievably clear...even more so than the water around hansen and courtney.

01-19-2003, 04:30 PM
Yep, I'm serious about the cd & acquarius. I would much rather the cd go to someone who's going to appreciate it.
The resort, Okuma. It's pretty nice. Of course, every time we go out there my husband drags me snorkeling. I loathe and detest snorkeling. That one part of the trip ends up putting a damper on the whole thing. Everything else is cool though. May rent a cabin and stay there for a few days after my husband gets back from his deployment. Alone. Unless they arrange my trip to the Army hospital for the specialist to look at my back. Hawaii! Alone! Sure, pm me the addy. Won't be able to mail it until Tues though because that part of the postal center is not open on Monday.

01-20-2003, 04:48 AM
Y'all sho aint no rocket scientists! My last session was a pull, but did anyone notice it...nooo! Too busy dissing the Air Force. j/k I've fixed it so don't bother looking for it.

Monday, 20 Jan '03-Push Session, Courtney Gym, 1330-1500 hrs.
DB Bench-1x10@40, 2x12@35
Leg Press-3x12@270
Leg Extension-3x15@70
DB Laterals-3x5@15
Seated Calves-3x15@120
DB Overhead Presses-3x10@20
Standing Calves-1x15@160, 1x15@180, 1x15@200
DB Overhead Triceps-3x10@20
Rope Pressdowns-3x10@73

Notes: Workout was sub-optimal. My joints were achy and it affected my squats and bench big time. The workout took a long time because I was teaching a friend of mine how to use free-weights instead of machines. Gonna try a pull session after work tomorrow. Don't have to pick up my kids until 7:00 so I'll have the time. That's all.

Yep. Did 290 a couple of days ago. Legs are obviously my strongest body part. I need to update this journal but I keep leaving my training log in the truck. I'll do it after the kiddos go to bed tonight.

Tues, 21 Jan, 1640-1720 hrs, Risner Meat Market, Pull Session

Hyperextensions-3x10w/25# plate
DB Rows-3x10@30 (getting the form down since I normally don't do these)
BB Bicep Curls-4x5@45

Notes: This workout sucked booty! Every time I tried to get the seated row machine, someone was on it. Then a group of guys who bs between sets converge on it. I was so pissed! There was also another chick homesteading on the Leg Curl machine! A Japanese girl who works out at the same time was having the same problem with the leg press machine so at least I wasn't suffering alone.

Thurs, 23 Jan 03, 1625-1705 hrs, Risner Meat Market, Push Session

Walking Lunges-3x15@40
DB Bench-12,10,8@35
Leg/Calve Press-3x15@290
Ahnold Press :D-3x9@20
Seated Calves-didn't happen :swear:
Overhead Triceps-3x10@40

Notes: Bah! Could have been better... Doing ok with the running. Diet is pretty much on, but all of a sudden I'm 7 lbs heavier. I don't know if this is related to the stress I'm under or turning 40, but if I don't get it off, I'm screwed. Maybe I need to become a vegetarian, but I like steak. Okay, I've finished my rambling.

Monday, 27 Jan '03, 1545-1630 hrs, Risner Meat Market-Pull Session

SLDL-15@95, 12@105, 10@115
Hyperextensions-15,15,12w/25lb plate
Seated Rows-10,12,10@111
Leg Curl-3x8@50
BB Bicep Curl-3x5@45
ran for 25 min.

Notes: Go up on SLDL's, Hyperextensions and maybe Seated Rows. The Bicep Curls felt a little easier. Wasn't struggling as much. Running was good. Diet could have been better but my monthly starch cravings cannot be helped. I get monster headaches if I ignore them (I tried again yesterday...it was painful) Sleep sucked too. I'll be turning in early tonight.

Gym observations: There's this personal trainer that works at the Risner and occasionally lurks here. (hi Milenia!) She's usually working a client when I'm there, but not today! I got to watch her work out. This girl has her ish together! I felt like a colossal weakling after watching her.

Wow...I'd love to see a fabulous female BB'er at my gym....then I'd have a role model:D.

I'm still reeling about that leg press... that is superb:bow:. I get to increase my leg press weight tomorrow so I'm cheerin:D

We have one lady I've seen working out that has a better physique than most guys. Wide shoulders, big lats, massive legs, and a 6-pack. Every time she walks in I get jealous.

01-29-2003, 04:30 PM
But does her voice have a lower register than yours?
Need to update this thing. Keep leaving the workout journal in the ride. Will try to remember to bring it in after lunch.
Gonna go down in wt on squats and work on form. I wanna do ATF squats instead of the usual parallel.

I don't think we should go to war with Iraq.

Its obvious that our armed forces can't meet the demands of physical training.

01-29-2003, 07:26 PM
Well, hello there! I feel compelled to read new journals I jump into from the start and it gets time consuming, so I haven't jumped into a new one lately. But since yours was only 4 pages. . .

And I had to pop in here after you demonstrating how to get detour bars from Galileo. Hilarious!

Yep, I'm afraid G-B considers us (I'm ex-AF) kind of like the world's largest paramilitary organization, sort of like the boy or girl scouts, but with guns. I'll hang around to provide you with moral support.

Is Jack's still on Kadena? We used to love that place. Watched the Sumo in the bar then off to the kobe beef room.

Excuuuse me??? I would beg to differ, but that would involve begging so I'm won't. I'll have you know that I totally exceed the standards for the AF fitness test. Shut the smart-ass tester right up. The girl's a bitch on wheels so I got lots of malicious pleasure out of showing her how it's done. Go me!
Oh, and it doesn't matter whether or not I think we should go to war with Iraq. I'll go where I'm sent.

He should back off once he gets the SOAD cd and Acquarius stash. 4 LARGE bottles of Acquarius.
Yep, Jack's is still here, but it's kind of gone downhill. Did the O'Club have their awesome Sunday Buffet when you were here? More food than P-Man can eat during his bulking phase ;) They're building a Chili's on base. Of course, it won't be done till after I leave  I usually don't eat on base though. It's all about CoCo's! 24 hr curry joint. I'm up to level 5. Gonna try to go up to 7 before the hubby gets back from his deployment. Some guy tried to go straight to Level 10 and got a bloody nose for his bravery (bwaaahaaa).

01-29-2003, 10:33 PM
That's what you think. This fat bastard can clean out a Golden Corral in no time flat.

PS-- Good to see I can still get your hackles raised with a few harmless comments

01-29-2003, 10:42 PM
Lose the halo shake-boy. This is a better look for you. :evillaugh
Golden Corral? Bah! This buffet makes GC look like a small picnic.

01-30-2003, 03:45 AM
Yep. I remember the buffet! It's a shame about Jack's. My wife actually got into watching Sumo wrestling there. Used to be a very nice place.

G-B is cool, he just likes tweaking me a bit, as do most Marines, but I respect that. Everybody loves the AF when they need picking up out of the jungle in a helo. I used to get regular requests for radar control in the Philippines from Marine A-4 pilots in Cope Thunder exercises, much to the chagrin of the boys (and girls) in MACS-4 from Futenma, heheh.

01-30-2003, 04:26 AM
heh...People tend to forget about Futenma. ;)
Go Air Force!

Tues, 28 Jan 1635-1745hrs (grrr) Push Session, 'da meat market

Walking lunges-3x14@50
DB Bench-3x10@60, 1x10@70
DB Flyes-3x10@50
Leg Press-didn't happen (grrr)
Lateral Raises-4x5@20
Leg Extensions-3x15@73
DB Overhead Press-3x40
Seated Calves-3x10@125
Diagonal Cable Pull(tri's)-4x10@20

Notes: Where do I begin...the place was packed, I had to wait to get:
a. A bench
b. A squat rack
c. Dumbells (that's why I was using the 30's for the bench)
d. The cable station
e. The leg press which didn't happen 'cause I got sick of waiting.
Nobody put stuff away either. The DB rack is labeled so that people know where to put what pound weight. It must have been illiterate BB'ers day @ the Risner because it was a mess.
Happy with the Leg Ext's. My weight would not go up on those for ages and now boom! My knees were shot so my squats were not as good as I would have liked them.
Diet: Good
Sleep: I worship at the altar of the god of Tylenol PM. In other words...good.
Cardio: Had no time after having to wait on eqiupment.

Thurs, 30 Jan 1730-1800 hrs, Pull Session, 'da Meat Market

Leg Curl-4x8@70
DB Bicep Curls-3x10@20

Notes: Abbreviated out of necessity. Got an e-mail this morning informing me that I needed to be at a briefing @ 1630 hrs! What kind of idiot schedules briefings for after duty hours? This guy obviously. And the entire clinic either needed to attend this one or the one scheduled for tomorrow morning. Since I'm on leave tomorrow, I had to go to the one this p.m.
The DL's were good  Actually, everything except biceps was good. Even though it was a short workout, I'm happy with it. Next week, I'm going to stop the pulldowns and move to chins. I weigh less than 148 lbs so I should be able to do these now. Hopefully...in a perfect world...
This gym has been getting all kinds of new stuff. All of which is Hammer Strength. So every time I go there, everything is re-arranged because they're trying to find places for all of this stuff. So anyway, I'm doing my wimpy bicep curls and these 3 japanese dudes are arguing about where they're going to put things. It was pretty funny, but OMG! Find one place, put something there and then leave it alone!!!
Cardio: nope, not today
Diet: 4-letter word that starts with the word "die"...could have been better
Sleep:  'nuff said

Squats-12@70, 2x9@85 Went all the way down on these. Go me!
Hammer Lunge-3x6@55
Military Press-3x10@40
Seated Calves-12,10,13@135
Tricep Pressdowns-3x10@70

Notes: Well I did the ATF Squats. Been holding off on doing those 'cause I was afraid that I was going to fall over backwards. Shouldn't have worried. But my quads hurt already. It's gonna suck to be me tomorrow. Tried out the Hammer squat/lunge machine. It was character building. I put the 40's in my hands for the Bench Press, got into position, and literally could not move the damn things!!! Good thing I have a sense of humor.

Cardio: Non-existent

Diet: good

Sleep: Brought to you by the makers of Tylenol PM

'dat's all folks!

02-04-2003, 04:14 AM
It was character building.

Does Tylenol PM really work that great for you? I never could get a good nights sleep whenever I took it.

02-04-2003, 04:24 AM
Without it, I wake up at about 12:30 and stay awake till about 3:30. My alarm goes off at 4:45 and I couldn't roll my sleep deprived carcass out of bed to save my life. It sucked big-time. With this stuff, I only stay awake for about 45 min before drifting back into blessed sleep.

I'm impressed..... I nearly fell over backwards the other day just going below parallel.....I won't even BEGIN to tell you the wussy weight:redface:. lol....

Now go buy those wellies :D

02-04-2003, 05:15 AM
Franji, when I first started doing squats, I was in a full torso brace and holding on to my kitchen counter for dear life. SLDL's were with a broomstick. In other words, I literally started at the bottom. The very bottom. That is why I never make fun of fat people working out or people working hard with light weights because that's all they can lift. I've been there and refuse to allow myself to forget.

hey xraygirl, good job, you made much more improvements then me! Anyways what u doin in okinawa?

She got deported from the US.

02-04-2003, 08:08 PM
Serving this great country of ours...or something to that effect. Oh, and getting absolutely no respect from ninja-shakeboy. None. Zero. Nada. Zip!

02-04-2003, 08:13 PM
xray please forgive my absence from your journal as I have been burried beneath 40+ hour work weeks and sanctioned teachings that I am forced to sit through at school, and trying to expand my intellectual capacity with 30min cramming sessions each morning.

You two (you and JC) talk as if futenma is an air force base. It is a marine corps air station...or maybe I am missing something here

So you sent me the SOAD and 4 LARGE bottles of acquarius? You ROCK!

Be careful of those ATF squats...could start to hurt your knees. I used to do ATF squats with 315 and now my knees crack and hurt like hell when I put 225 on the bar.

02-04-2003, 08:51 PM
I know Futenma is a Marine station, but everyone goes to Kadena when they need to fly off island. Futenma does Freedom Bird flights too.

I did the ATF's just to see if I can do them and also to move past a sticking point. I want to be able to squat with a 45# plate on each side. Feel like a colossal wimpo because I can't do it yet.

02-04-2003, 08:55 PM
I respect you. I wouldn't pick at you if I didn't.

Its just more fun to pick at you.

*taunts Diana*

02-04-2003, 09:21 PM
I know that you damn goofball

addendum to last post about ATF's...my lower quads hurt! But it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. So life is good!

02-04-2003, 10:50 PM
I had no clue that futenma had freedom birds

02-04-2003, 11:20 PM
They fly people off the island. Just not as often as KA does. Unless they've quit that stuff recently. But they were doing some PR for it a while back. Oh well. I still haven't been off island. Going to Tripler alone when hubby gets back from parts deployed. Hawaii, all by myself! :) I'll need the break by then.

100th Post Celebration!!!:shoot: :alcoholic :dj:  :D

Okay, now on with the workout...

Thurs, 06 Feb '03, 1630-1710 hrs, Bimbo Central, Pull Session

It was the best of times...SLDL-3x10@115
It was the worst of times...Chins-3x0.5 (grrr...)
Leg Curl-6,5,7,7,8 @ 70
DB Rows-3x10@35
Zottman Curls-7,5,5,5 @ 15

Notes: Time to go up in wt on Rows, Hyperextensions and DL's. Oh, and  I can't do a chin. But that's okay, because I am now a woman on a mission. I will do these. May as well start doing dips while I'm at it. Good thing I've never had a healthy ego

Diet: Right on baby! I discovered Vanilla Soy Milk  Used to drink milk with every meal until I became lactose intolerant at the age of 22. So this is a biggie for me.

Cardio: Nope. Don't feel right leaving my kids at home by themselves at night for an hour while I run. Maybe I'll go during my lunch hours.

Sleep: Tuesday's sleep sucked booty. Used melatonix instead of T-PM. Didn't work. Last night was solid though.

Got the assignment listing today. I thought that I would be going to one of the following places: Texas, California, or Alabama. But someone told me that joint-spouse assignments are selected ahead of everyone else. So the good folks at Randolph AFB in San Antonio know where I'm going, but I don't yet. And worse, I probably won't know for about another 3 months. This is irritating because I get back to the states around the same time school starts. I need make arrangements for my kiddos and can't do it till I know where the hell I'm being sent.

Monday, 10 Feb 02, Risner, 1635-1720

All I did was run. I will be doing a lot of running. Keeping my diet under control is not taking the fat off of my body. Lifting is not raising my metabolism enough to take the fat off of my body.
Okay, I'm exaggerating. When my size 7's start to get snug, I go into full panic mode. My 40th birthday present from the fates was 7 lbs. So far, I'm managed to give 2lbs of it back. But it's taken close to 2 months. So, I'll be doing alot of running. Especially since my husband has decided that I'm going running with him on a regular basis when he gets back from parts deployed.

On the MP3 player while I was running: A mix of Garbage from all 3 of their cds.

That is all...xraygirl, out...

02-10-2003, 06:33 AM
On my workout MP3 player I have some SOAD, disturbed, and koRn

On my MP3 player I listen to while I run....it is filled with Pink Floyd.

Is it starting to warm up there yet? Any typhoons at all?

02-10-2003, 04:54 PM
This is day 4 of being warm  I hate cold weather so this warm air is making me quite the happy camper. No typhoons yet. Rainy season will probably be starting in another week or so. This means running on the treadmill for between 6-8 weeks. Typhoon season starts 01 May. We had quite a few typhoon days last year. It's always nice when I get time off without having to use my leave. Have 29 use or lose right now so they have to let me take some time off. Will probably be using most of it when I leave here though. Don't plan to reporting to my next duty station until I absolutely have to.
My MP3 is one of those Lyras with the smartcards. I have 3 loaded with different music. Gonna get another card and just put music from The Matrix, MI-2, Scorpian King, Tomb Raider, Spiderman & DD soundtracks. Should make for an energetic cardio session :D

02-11-2003, 04:03 AM
Tues, 11 Feb '03, 1630-1730 hrs, Push Session

Lunges: 10@60, 65 & 70
BB Bench: 8, 5, & 5@80
ATF Squats: 10@70, 2x8@75
Cybex Galileo Overhead Press: 3x8@62
Hammer Iso Leg Ext: 3x8@35 per leg
Single-Arm Overhead Tricep: 3x10@20
Standing Calves: 3x10@130

Notes: Go up on lunges and maybe the ATF squats. I'm so weak on BB Bench. Hate doing standing calves at the Risner. That Cybex calve machine hurts my back. The electricity went out twice while I was there. The 1st time for about 5 min and the second for about 15. It was actually kind of nice without the radio going.

Diet: Right on!

Cardio: Not today. I forgot my running shoes at home and this girlie cannot run in otomix lifting shoes.

Sleep: Tylenol PM induced.

Been on the edge of a migraine for 2 days now. And because 1 troop just left, 1 is playing security police and another had a baby 2 weeks ago, I can't get the time off to just fill myself with pain medication and deal with the damn thing. Just loaded myself with Tylenol PM and plan to turn in no later than 9:00. If I'm lucky, I won't feel too bad tomorrow. But I'm not holding my breath.

02-11-2003, 04:14 AM
Why did the power keep going out? Is that normal?

I hear ya on the migraines. I used to get them a while back and they would put me out of comission for at least a whole day. Hope it gets better and doesn't bother you too bad.

02-11-2003, 04:17 AM
I have no idea what was going on. Typical military electrical system. I'm just glad that they didn't throw us out of the gym.
Yep, the migraine doth truly suck. But I'm middle-aged, I'll adjust

02-11-2003, 06:33 AM
Nice work on the lunges and ATF squats (those are tough).

Oh by the way, I think Deliverance took place in Mississippi j/k:)

02-12-2003, 04:58 AM
Thanks Bradley! They are certainly character building. Mississippi, eh? Or is there something you're not sharing? ;)

Workout du jour...I jogged. For 30 minutes. Another character building experience. Especially after leg-day.

Diet: Pretty good

Cardio: duh!

Sleep:

Impending Migraine: It wasn't that bad during the day, but I can still feel it trying to make my life one long weekend in hell.

Attitude: El sucko thank you very much.

02-12-2003, 06:34 AM

02-12-2003, 11:20 AM
Running after leg day? With an impending migraine? You're either VERY disciplined or VERY masochistic!! ;)

I'm impressed with your extensions by the way - I HATE those with a virulent loathing. They burn like nothing else on earth.

Hope your head feels better.

02-12-2003, 12:31 PM
Hope you make it back to Texas. I know how much you miss HEB and good Mexican food. :D

BTW, I find that doing any type of cardio the day after legs reduces the severity of my DOMS...is it just me or do you find the same thing?

02-12-2003, 04:07 PM
Hey GB, what's with the
Carolinagirl, masochistic is probably the most apt description. I hate extensions too but if I don't beat my legs into submission, they bulk up.
I'm losing this battle with the migraine.
EC, I find the same thing. It's easier to maintain my range of motion if I do something for the legs the following day.
I would love dearly to go back to SA. But the spouseman is hell-bent on going back to PA.
Today, will be the pull session. Deadlifts! I must be a total sicko because I love deads!

02-12-2003, 08:59 PM
Today, will be the pull session. Deadlifts! I must be a total sicko because I love deads!w00t!!

I prefer to sit around all day after legs. That way the DOM's set in real good and all I can do is crawl around. For some reason people stare at me the day after legs.

02-13-2003, 04:25 AM
HY, you need help dude.

Yates Row-3x10@90
Hyperextensions-10@35, 2x8@35
BB Curls-2x5@45
Zottman Curls-2x7@15

Notes: No progress on DL's or Biceps. :swear: Did the Leg Curls slowly now that I can get the 70# up. Leg Curls are the exercise that I dislike most. But I like the results. Have to go up on the rows. Yeah!

Cardio: Nope!

Diet: Still excellent. My only complaint is that the quality of fresh produce over here sucks. Badly. And limes are too expensive. I like to squeeze limes into my water.

Sleep: Good. Just been having disturbing dreams.

I'm felt totally fried at the gym this afternoon. Taking a rest day tomorrow.
Sorry, too tired to be witty.

Notes: Spent the entire weekend finding God...or rather, worshipping the porcelain altar. In short, I was soooo sick! My stomach is still feeling kinda wonky so I wasn't about to do anything to could cause a repeat visit of the pukes (read: Squats)
Did all the exercises very slow and controlled today. The ease of the concentration curls surprised me. Hadn't done them in a while.

Diet: Hmmm...Campbells Chicken Soup, Premium Saltine Crackers Acquarius, and Maalox. That pretty much covers my diet these past few days. I held down a salad today so I must be on the mend.

Sleep: Intermittent

Cardio: Non-existant.

That's it! 'da xraygirl...out

Ohh sorry to hear that:(

Congrats on find the vanilla soy...what brand is it?? Also concerning is the array of fresh produce.......what sort of stuff do they usually stock???

02-19-2003, 10:55 AM
Hi xraygirl :hello: I am starting to hit my last few journals to make friends, hope I am not being overzealous since you don't know me from squat

02-19-2003, 03:58 PM
G-B: Yep, I'm doing mucho better. Will be doing lower body sh...stuff today. :D Stay tuned...

Power-Ninja-Shake-BoyDL: Quiet you! tuttut

Franji-san: I have no idea what the brand name is. Will look it up when I get home and let you know. The vanilla flavored rocks! Can't cook with it though. However, you can cook with either rice or almond milk. Will check my reference materials and get back with you on which one you can use for cooking. As for produce, I haven't had a decent tomato since I've been here. The stuff they send from the states to the commissaries looks like EC did a mexican hat dance on them before they tossed it on the plane. The native stuff has an off taste which makes me wonder what they use to fertilize and whether or not they use pesticides. They also go bad within 3 days. When I get back to the states in Aug, I'm going to lose 10lbs in the 1st month just because I'll be living on fresh produce :D

Cocoa: Welcome, bievenidos and all that jazz :hello: The best way to meet people here is to jump right in. I like the journals because you can get a good idea on what people are like before you engage in communcation. :D

Workout du jour...ran 6.1k. That's right, I was anal enough to drive my jogging route last week so I could measure the distance.
Was going to work legs etc...today, but my son got sick so lifting was out. Went running after he fell asleep. Lifting is out tomorrow too because I'm gonna be a girl and get my hair done. So, Legs on Saturday! Fun-zies!

All righty then. Life got in the way of training for 2 weeks.
Going back to my old training program for a little while because I lean out when I train this way. It's 2 sets of 12-15 reps.

Not bad. Just glad to get back to the gym. Did the reps nice and slow. Gonna try front squats tomorrow.

Maybe in a little bit. Depends on how hard it's raining.

Pretty good. Haven't needed the Tylenol PM as much.

Don't ask...:hide:
Seriously, I really need to tighten up my diet. More to come...

That's it for now.

Edited to add a new category. Everybody does the song du jour thing. I really didn't have one, but my infinitely cool 7 y/o son has been singing this one non-stop for 2 days now...

Tune du Jour (tm)

Hey! At least he's gotten over his Japanese rap thing...

He obviously is giving AC/DC their due credit in being elected in to the music hall of fame..and rightly so.

I was wondering why there was such a huge gap in time between your posts but then again I havent been able to get on WBB much seeing as how I have been moving the last 2 weeks and have not had access to the net. I am now wasting school time and resources to surf the net...LOL

BTW...still no package from you

And I might be going to kuwait...good ole government contract baby...tax free money!

03-10-2003, 04:56 PM
Hey G-B! :hello: 3 of my 4 troops are not here for misc reasons, my kids took turns getting sick and I tested for the promotion that I'll probably won't be getting. That's the condensed version of what kept me from posting.
They found your package and I told them to send it back. If it's been traveling this long, I don't want you drinking that Acquarius. Got it back this weekend, replace the drink and will mail it off again today since the MPS is closed yesterday. Priority Mail. You should either have it by the end of the week or early next week.

This workout sucked  The intensity just was not there. Too many people in the weight room. They just re-opened a smaller gym by my workplace, may check it out tomorrow. Gonna add a set to the lower body stuff too. 2 works for my upper but not my lower.
Realized that I don't enter my ab-work. Usually do a set of some kind of crunches before I move to a new exercise. So I did traditional crunches between the squats and SLDL's and between the DL's and Leg Exts. Reverse Crunches between Leg exts and Leg curls and between Leg curls and hyper-exts. Ususally whip out 2 sets of hanging leg raises at the end of the workout.

No. I'm worn out. As in sleepy.

Sucked. Can't get this right anymore.

6.5 hrs. This is about average. Not tonight though. Turning in soon.

Sorry, none today. Left the MP3 @ home. Colin's still fixated on TnT, Rachael's singing something from the Oliver! musical. The girl's gonna be a star I tells ya! If she ever learns to dance. She inherited her rhythm from her father. Poor thing...

Borris, I read about your one-that-got-away-blues in your journal. Been there, done that and unfortunately for you, I have nothing witty, intelligent or anything that could be confused with any of the above on a cloudy day to say that would help in any way. Hang in there dude.

LOL It's all good. Part of the problem might be that I'm a bluesy kinda guy. ;) I'll muddle through, as usual in this situation.

Yeeeah, Zottman curls! Better you than me. :D

Zottman's build character...okay, not really. Gonna be doing legs this afternoon. Have a love/hate relationship with leg day but like Zottman's, it builds character.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware that I waaay overtrained. It's gonna suck to be me tomorrow. :(

Does walking count as cardio? I did a bunch of walking today. Walked the kids to school and then I had to get back home 45 min.
Walked around the track for 45 min after lifting just for the heck of it.
Kept a friend of mine company till she finished her workout by walking on a treadmill for an additional 15 min.

Has well and truly rocked today. Go me!

Not much to say. Got a much needed day off today. It was so nice to have a day to myself without kids or phone calls from the shop. Gonna not make it to the gym for a week starting next weekend. Playing wargames just in case we're not going to be doing the real thing in a couple of weeks...

xraygirl, out...

03-14-2003, 05:57 AM
Hi Girl, Glad to see you took a much deserved and needed break

03-17-2003, 11:25 PM
I hear you on the war games...I just got a letter from the department of defense command marine corps center stating that I have been involuntarily extended for a year. No biggie....

03-18-2003, 12:36 AM
I always play nice.

That's a heck of a lot of walking. I proclaim it cardio! There, it counts now.

LMAO @ "builds character". You've been talking to HomeYield?

03-18-2003, 04:52 AM
CoCoa- Thanks! The break was most excellent.

G-B- What do they mean "involuntarily extended?" I thought that you hung up your cammies a while back. But then, I'm not paid to think...

EC- Yep, bet you say that to all the girls..."I always play nice."
I've been calling every unpleasant thing that I have to do "character building" for years.

Two workouts since I didn't have time to post yesterday...

Monday, 17 Mar 03-Chest, Back and Shoulders, Risner Gym
BB Bench-10, 8 & 8 @ 75#
Flat Flyes-3x10@25#

Pulldowns-15 & 12 @ 130#
Yates Row- 10, 10 & 8 @ 90#

DB Overhead Presses- 12, 9 & 8 @ 20#

Workout Commentary
Brief workout because I was pressed for time. Had to pull the late shift at work. Didn't get a chance to work arms. Don't think they'll shrivel up and die from one missed workout. Had to wait for a bench for the flyes. Then I had to wait another 10 minutes for the #$%@ 25# dbs. They were doing some work in part of one of the 2 weight rooms so didn't have access to the assisted chin. Wanted to do BB militaries for the shoulders, but that was taken by a bunch of lifters with a tribe mentality.

Ran about 5 k last night.

About 5. Insomnia sucks booty.

But wait, there's more...or...Workout # 2 (that's "dos" for all you Spanish speaking folks out there)

Tuesday, 18 Mar 03-Lower Bod, Risner

Squats-15, 15 & 10 @ 95#
SLDL- 10 x 3 @ 95#
Leg Extensions- 3 x 15 @ 50
Leg Curls- 4 x 10 @ 50

Workout Commentary
Hate abbreviated workouts, but it's better than not getting one in at all. Felt weak on everything today. Brought the weights down so I can concentrate on form. I will not be going back to the Risner. Sick of waiting on stuff. Could not get on equipment because it's either too crowded or the patrons work out in packs. I may not be a plumber, but my time is valuable to me. So I will not waste any more of it.

Not today.

Go me!

Der Spiel
I went walking on both Sat and Sun since my legs were pretty much fried after Friday's abuse. And it was absolutely gorgeous outside both nights. Sat was on the beach with a friend of mine. We both have an aversion to stupid movies so we spent a couple of hours walking. Sunday I walked my running path.
Started dieting seriously on Sunday. Been totally on for the past 3 days. The difference is that I'm now a woman on a mission. Henceforth, I will refer to the previous period as my "bulk cycle" :D It has ended. Now, I'm on a cutting cycle. Gee...rationalizing is fun!
Trying to swing a TDY to San Antonio in April for a few days. The Air Force Diagnostic Imaging Leadership Conference is going to be at Lackland and I wanna go. Badly. Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that the one who got away is stationed at Lackland. No siree! Perish the thought!

Thank you and don't forget to tip the bartender on the way out...

03-18-2003, 09:06 AM
I am still in the inactive reserves. When you initially sign your DOD contract it is for 8 years. 4 of those years are spent on active duty, the other 4 are spent in the inactive reserves. Which means you dont have to do crap....you just need to maintain your issued uniforms in case you get recalled.

Now in my case I was 10 days away from fullfilling my inactive reserve commitment and I would have been out for good. But I have now been involuntarily extended so I have no choice...

03-18-2003, 11:25 AM
Let me know if you make it down to San Antonio. Maybe we can go grab some grub at La Fogata, or at the very least a beer.

G-B: Gah! 10 days? Oh man! The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if they were to change it back to a non voluntary force.

Doctorcito: Probably won't be able to go. Trying, but 1 of my troops is about to be thrown out, another may be getting re-assigned to SA because her husband's beverage of choice a couple of weeks ago was some Pine-Sol with an anti-depressant chaser, another is playing cop and the last one has 3 minor surgical procedures scheduled next month. If they change the date, I might be able to make it though. A girl can dream...

Bradley: Thanks! Oh, and thanks! ;)

04-08-2003, 10:07 PM
Well....I hope you did not get deployed. I highly doubt you would given your job...

Perhaps you have just been lazy? Or perhaps you are on leave? Update us woman! :whip:

04-08-2003, 11:11 PM
Nope, not deployed. Just working and dealing with troops that have waaay too many personal issues going on. Been doing what I call maintenance training which is diana-speak for making it to the gym 2x a week and getting every body part worked at least once during that time. Had minor surgery 2 days ago and thought that I could work out around it. I couldn't but I may be able to run tonight. Gonna start hitting the weight room at 0400 again just to make sure that I get there.

What kind of minor surgery did you have? And how is the threatcon level there in okinawa? Moral of today's workout...if you don't use it, you lose it...

Variation on the theme of same-oh, just lower weights because I wasn't able to make it to the gym consistently for a little while

Incline DB Bench - 3x10@60
Incline DB Flyes - 3x10@40
Pulldowns - 3x10@100
Seated Rows - 3x10@111
Cable Lateral Raises - 3x10@10
Overhead DB Press - 3x10@30
Cable Bicep Curls (rope) - 3x10@50
Tricep Pressdowns (rope) - 3x10@50
Hanging Leg Raises - 3x10

Well, I went down on everything except biceps. But then I did all of the exercises really slow. Prolly could have lifted heavier, but since I hadn't been able to get a good quality workout in a couple of weeks, went with the lower weight and quality lifts instead.

Cardio: Been running 6.1 km in the evenings as a stress release. Leg day is going to be a joke, and a bad one at that because of these runs.

Diet: Pretty good. Craving curry like nobody's business.

Sleep: intermittent. Too much stress

Spiel: Supposed to find out where I'm gonna be assigned either any day now. I can't wait! Trying to get a port-call date of 02 Aug.
Too much stress at work. Two of my troops are fighting over men. It's so stupid. One thinks that she's a beauty queen and the other just sleeps with anyone male. Especially any male that's attracted to the "beauty queen." As you can imagine, this has created a little bit of tension in my dept. I sooo can't wait to leave here. Okay, done with my spiel. Thank you and goodnight.

xraygirl out.

04-22-2003, 02:30 PM
You getting re-assigned to the states? How long have you been overseas? Glad to see you were able to get back in the gym, and 6.1 km:eek: Must be really stressed.

I have also had some problems with working the legs following running. One thing that can help is mixing in types of cardio that are not weight bearing, and place less amounts of stress on the legs. This includes things like cycling and using the eliptical trainer. I like to run one day, then do a less weight bearing type of cardio on the next. It is easier for me to do a leg day after the less weight bearing cardio, than after running. I do not think my body could handle running every day.

04-22-2003, 03:59 PM
Bradley-I've been here for almost 3 years. It felt good to get back to the weight room. I am stressed, all work related. :(

aka23-The problem with using a cycle or an elliptical trainer is that I don't have any of that stuff at my house, but I do have some nice running shoes. So the youngest kiddo goes to bed at 8 and momma goes running ;)

Check again this am. No assignment yet.

04-22-2003, 06:50 PM
Bastards. You need to get your ass back here before I leave. We can go on a run through Alamo Heights, and stop by the 50/50 for some Shiner afterwards.

04-22-2003, 07:08 PM
Well if I get sent to Scott AFB in Illinois (hubby's base of preference), I'll only be 45 min from St Louis. Now...you were saying? ;)

No workout today. That is because I got to spend a fun filled afternoon as a...urinalysis observer. That's right boys, girls and others. My entire afternoon was filled with watching women go whiz in cups. Got pegged at the last moment because the observer originally scheduled is being uncermonously tossed out of the military in about a week. Automatically disqualified her. My office was the closest one to the UA section and I was the only one around that had the qualifications so tag, I'm it! Anyhoo, by the time I got out of there it was too late to go to the gym. So I picked up the progeny and went to the curry joint. This stuff has 10 levels of heat and I'm up to level 5. Was trying to get to level 7 before I leave in Aug, but I'll be lucky to hit level 6.

Forgot to post tunage yesterday. I will therefore take this opportunity to pay my final respects to a great if controversial artist. RIP to the late Nina Simone.

That's all folks...xraygirl out

El sucko lower body workout

Squats-15@65 to warm up, 2x8@85
Leg Press/Calve Raise-3x15@315
Leg Ext-10, 12 & 15@70
Leg curls-3x10@50
Glute Ham Raises-3x10
Seated Calves-3x10@135

Well, the workout sucked. Tried to do front squats but I think my shoulders are too dinky or something. I can't get them right :( Hate leg curls with an ugly passion. Hated them even more today  Deads were a breeze. 1st time I did the glute ham raise thingy. Will put db between my feet next time.

No cardio. Going walking because my knees are shot.

Sleep. Overslept my alarm by 2 hours this morning and somehow managed to be only 1 hour late to work. Go figure. Sleep = good

I know how you feel about the front squats. I have trouble with them myself. Never feel quite right when performing them. Did you use a clean grip or cross your arms and let your shoulders support the bar?

04-25-2003, 05:55 AM
To be totally honest, I have absolutely no idea what I was doing. I tried lifting my elbows up and crossing the arms. That didn't work 'cause I like my windpipe where it is. Tried just kinda holding the bar in place. That didn't work either. I want to do front squats! That's supposed to help with the ATF's and also bring the poundages on traditionals up. Or at least that's what I've been reading somewhere.

04-25-2003, 08:17 AM
There are two types of front squats. A picture of a bodybuilding front squat is on the left. A picture of a weightlifting (olympic) front squat is on the right. The bar is supposed to be on the front of your upper shoulders in the bodybuilding front squat.

What's up, girlie? I haven't wasted some journal space here in a while, so...

I feel you on the front squats. My wrists can't handle clean grip, and I can never get the cross grip to feel comfortable. It sucks, I'd really like to do front squats.

:withstupi Its been a moment since I been thru here too :hello:

04-26-2003, 04:39 PM
Borris :hello: Dunno. I'm gonna keep trying to do them. That cross grip feels weird, but it's probably my best option. My goal is to be able to do squats with plates at the ends of the bar and front squats are supposed to help with regular squat. I'm a woman on a mission. ;)

CoCoa :hello: right back atcha! How's life in the chocolate factory?

Perhaps you could do them in a smith machine. The smith machine can make it easy to maintain balance. There is a picture and instructions at http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/SMFrontSquat.html

Hola. Just haven't had much of a chance to lift. Been doing what I call "maintenance training" 2 sets of everything 2x a week just to maintain my strength. Finally gonna be able to hit it hard again this week. Got rid of my 2 problem troops. Amazing how much easier work is when the problem children are gone.
Still no orders. Check every Mon @ 1500 hrs because that's when the info is updated.
Hubby got back at 0300 hrs Fri from his deployment for 1 wk R&R. He's spent the last 2 days trying to do some kind of intervention. He wants me out of the weightroom. Not happening. Tells me that all I need to do is run

I gave him a fully trained MRI tech but that guy won't be here till March but the guy is still bitching like a girl.

Well I hope you get some down time on Tues/Wedns.

You are so right. Sometimes I think that they decided to send every bitchy man in the AF over here for the sole purpose of irritating me. :)
I hope they give me the 2 days. If not, I still have 3 comp days coming. I can get ugly if I have to. :evillaugh:

Not really. It's gotten old. Older than me. I let my commander know about 1.5 weeks ago that it's just not fun anymore.
Anyway, my boss still hasn't approved my leave. grrr...

Use violence. Give them a lil' sumpin short and meaningful.

05-11-2003, 10:44 PM
Nah, they've already gotten too much from me ;)

You need to use the appropriate San Antonio threat:

Oh sh!t! I forgot about that one...Thanks mang!

The winners of the "Who Is Xraygirl Going To Be Assigned Closest To" lottery are...Teh Budiak & El Señor Webb!

That's right, the AF in their singular lack of deep and profound wisdom is sending me to the one part of the country that is nowhere to be found on my "dreamsheet", which will be henceforth be referred to as the "f*ck Diana over sheet" Travis AFB is a mere hour from Sacto. And a mere hour from SF.
It's not really that bad. I was just expecting to be sent to a place that was at least in the region of the country that I selected. I lived in Belmont for 1 year and Sacto for 6 so at least I'm somewhat familiar with the area.

05-21-2003, 06:22 PM
Ooooooh you get to hang with Teh Budiax0rz!

05-21-2003, 06:36 PM
Holy ****!

Greetings & salutations
Due to my move and a very unsupportive spouse, I've been unable to drag my sorry can to the gym in a while. A looong while. But that is going to change this week! I will have 1.5 hours to work out and get back to work starting next week (lunch break) and am trying to put together a program that I can get done in that time.
I can knock out one of my old programs in about 45 minutes if I don't have to wait on anyone and no one interrupts me. But I don't want to take chances. So here is my tentative preliminary schedule:

Mon: Back, Biceps & Calves (everyone else does chest on Mon)
Tues: Cardio
Wed: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
Thurs: Cardio again
Fri: Everything else :D Quads, Hams & Glutes

Comments anyone?

Your husband doesn't want you keeping yourself in shape? WTF?

I'd be jumping with joy if my girlfriend decided to train hardcore!

Anyways, glad you can lift now. What exercises are you doing on Fridays?

09-24-2003, 05:57 AM
Glad to see you "back in the saddle".

Thanks for the advice in my journal - much appreciated ;)

09-24-2003, 06:02 AM
Looks good to me. Good luck with everything! Looking forward to seeing some sessions.

09-24-2003, 06:57 AM
About time you showed back up. Tell the hubbie to f*ck off.

Do what you gotta do.

09-24-2003, 04:17 PM
Yay! Welcome back!

Maybe you could think about doing the cardio stuff after work instead of interspersing it with the weights on the lunch hours. (If I recall correctly you actually enjoy running and stuff .) Then you could do a four-day split instead of a three-day and you'd be SURE to have enough time to get all your scheduled stuff done - even if you had to wait for things. (And by 'things' I mean slow, slow people, of course.)

I'm glad you're back! We missed you!

09-24-2003, 04:48 PM
Hey, if ya have to wait for somebody to quit pressin' ham on the equipment, just slap 'em around a little. Kinda sets the tone for your workout. Welcome back and good luck.

09-24-2003, 04:53 PM

Good luck with getting back into things

Dedicated, midee1, ericg, JustinF, BCC, Saint Paddy: Thanks guys. I really appreciate the support.

Borris One can never have enough spam ;)

Matt: Speaking of guns, you should see the Niko 12 gauge I brought back. It's the same as a Winchester 101, but Japanese made. Most cool.

doctorcito: Gracias. Had a big ole bowl of Pozole today. Good stuff.

Chops: Thanks girlie. I shoot xrays for a living and I'm not original, hence the name

ScottS: His idea of me being in shape is about 98# (I'm 5'1"). This would be great if I were a bird-boned ectomorph...I'm not. He'll adjust or die trying.

HomeBoy:HELLO!!! How do you think I ended up with 2 children???

CG: I would love to. But I have to pick up the youngest kiddo by 5:00 (I get off at 4:30) and literally cannot find the time anywhere else.

volcamp: Yep. It's a good upper body warmup too

Thanks everyone for your support! Y'all rock!

I see... so he doesn't want you to get BIG? Like many other things, it's all in the presentation. Would he respond to the word "toned"? :p

09-25-2003, 02:39 AM
:hello: Yayyyyyy she's back.....and not just lurking anymore :p ;)

09-29-2003, 10:29 AM
midee1: Thanks again ;)
Scott: I think he responds more to my being strong :D
Franji-san: Thanky kindly ma'am :)

Gads! I forgot to post my spiel...

Both sets of movers (storage & Okinawa) arrived at my house on Friday. Can you say "cluster" boys and girls? I had no idea that I had so much crap!

But wait, there's more...
Got to work and one of the 1st e-mails I get is one that says that the hospital gym is closed for re-modeling until further notice!!! grrr...
So now, I'm trying to get the cooperation of the spouse (okay, stop laughing) so I can drag my butt to the base gym immediately before or after work. If not, I'm turing my formal dining room into a home gym, husband be damned. Wish me luck folks.

09-29-2003, 10:32 AM
Hey, it's xray! :) Nice to see you back here and getting back to the gym.

As for your spouse...seeing as he seems to have a vision of the "ideal you," have you enlightened him with your version of the ideal HIM? :p

You mean, like absent? Nah, it would make me like him. I'm more highly evolved.

09-29-2003, 11:57 AM
Evolution is cool.

09-29-2003, 03:45 PM
At least you didn't grunt like Tarzan.

09-29-2003, 07:24 PM
So... are there going to be workouts in here? ;)

Welcome back to journal land.

Maybe I did.

Couldn't get to the site for reasons I just as soon not go into right now. Oh, and I couldn't access from work. That's been fixed (finally).

What the workout's are looking like...crap!
The AF wants organizations to do "Flight Fitness" which means I can't go lift during lunch. So I'm running (only 2 miles) with members of my flight 2x a week and doing some "circuit training" every Friday. As of next week, I should be able to go lift before FF. Been maintaining so it will hopefully not be long before I'm back up to speed. Unless my muscle memory went the way of Alzheimers.
That is all...

11-12-2003, 09:04 PM
Whoa! She lives. :D

Tell them you got more important things to be doing than some "Flight Fitness." :p

11-12-2003, 09:08 PM
Trust me Will, I would dearly love to tell them just that. It's a waste of my damn time.

11-12-2003, 09:12 PM
Only 2 miles?! I'd pass out after one. Glad its not me. I lift weights. :p

11-12-2003, 09:12 PM
i didnt realize you were from fairfield. im just around the corner in sacto

11-12-2003, 09:16 PM
Will: Tell me about it. I'm old. Running is for people without old folks knee angst. My legs don't warm up until the run is almost over. Very irritating.

Senor Webb: I'm not from Fairfield. The Air Force decided that I needed to move here from Okinawa in mid Aug. Did live in West Sacto as a teenager though. ;)

11-12-2003, 09:18 PM
Hi, welcome to WBB!

11-12-2003, 09:18 PM
oh so yer at travis?

west sacto?! youre a ghetto girly. i worked there for a couple years. gotta love jefferson blvd and the hooker hotels.

11-12-2003, 09:21 PM
Matt: phht! :p
Senor Webb: I lived in W Sac before it became ghetto. Yep, I'm that old.

11-13-2003, 02:03 PM
Had time to hit the weightroom before FF so...

BB Bench-13 @ 55, 10 @ 65, 8 @ 70
BB Shoulder Press-15, 12, & 10 @ 25
Rope Pressdowns-15, 12, 10 @ 50
Cable Crunches-15 @ 60, 70 & 80

The consensus...I'm weak.

Cardio: The Fit-Program monitor didn't show up for FF this morning, so I ended up running it. Anyway, ran 1.5 miles.

Diet: Back on track. More to come.

Sleep: 6 hrs. I get up early to study for promotion.

Attitude: I'm dieting...'nuff said!

11-15-2003, 02:05 PM
Yesterday consisted of "circuit training" The Fit Monitors had a bunch of stations setup and we had to go through it 2x. One had squats (sans weight), push-ups, overhead presses, lunges, crunches, jump rope, jumping jacks, etc... I played full out and it kicked my butt. Beats the hell out of what they were doing before.

Cardio: see above
Diet: yep, it's all good.
Sleep: good
Attitude: good in spite of diet. I've gone below the 134# mark so it's all good.

Saint Patrick
11-15-2003, 08:55 PM
Fairfield, CA vs. Okinawa, Japan?

I'd move back.

11-15-2003, 09:17 PM
She can't. She's a stormtrooper for the Emperor.

11-16-2003, 04:41 PM
Uh...what Matt said.

It's amazing how my food priorities (for lack of a better term) have clarified with my cutting diet. What I'm doing right now is something that worked a long time ago. But I quit doing it because I allowed other people's views to change what was working for me. Basically, I allow myself a moderate amount of starches early in the day and none after about 2:00 pm. Lots of raw fruits and vegs as well as portion control. I small cheat meal (emphasis on small) every three days or so and a whole cheat day on Sat.
The thing with cheat days is that I don't want to waste them on any ole thing. That's when I cook the stuff I really like such as curry or...curry! Seriously though, am I the only one who doesn't eat for the sake of eating on cheat days?

02-07-2004, 06:39 PM
*blows dust off journal*
Okay, where was I...not at the base gym. The AF fitness program cause a muscle imbalance in my legs that:
a. is causing problems with my knee
only weight lifting will fix!!! Well, according to the Physical Therapist anyway.
In short, back in the weightroom! :D

Leg Press - 3x20@300#
Calve Raises on Leg Press Machine - 3x20@300
SLDL - 3x15@60 :( Need to go way up on that
Hyperextensions - 3x15@10
Some standing inner thigh thingy - 20@40, 20@60, 20@70 (will explain later)
Seated Calves - 3x15@90

Okay, the PT said that I need to do to inner thigh thingys because my strength there is adversly proportional to my outer thigh strength. I'm not allowed to do Leg Extensions and the Lying leg curl machine. I will also have to do lunges.

Cardio: That's out
Diet: Not bad, but I still could lose some fat
Sleep: Brought to you by the makers of Tylenol PM (tm)
Attitude: Outstanding! The people I work with now are so much better than the clowns I had to deal with in Okinawa. Night and day!

Tunes: Untouchable - Garbage

xraygirl out!
