This journal is to keep track of my progress on my way to getting stronger and more enduring. Hopefully in 6-8 months I'll find a Strongest Man contest to compete in, and jumpstart my way into the Strongman world! Until then enjoy my training posts and random rantings.

Here's the basic routine idea:

1st day
Overhead squats(mainly as a warmup)
Sumo-deadlifts
Barbell behind the neck press(standing)
Bench press
Shrugs or powershrugs
Powercurls

2nd day
Rest

***
Optional rest day here
***

3rd day
Zercher deadlifts/squats
Powerclean
Push press
Rows
Possible pullups

***
Optional rest day here
***

4th day
Strongman event training

5th day
Rest

The main exercises are trained with 3x3, 5x5, 5x5-4-3-2-1, multiple singles, or multiple doubles.

On thursday I went to the gym to try out a few of the exercises I will be performing regularly:

OH squats
barx12
barx10
Zercher squats
barx10

EZ-Bar powercurls(cheat curls)
20x10
60x6
80x4
100x5
120x5
120x3

These are freakin intense... I love this exercise

Push presses
45x10
95x8
115x6
115x5

Didn't push it too much on these, still had me way out of breath

Cheat triceps pushdowns
60x10
120x12
150x1 drop to 140x6

Did a few heavy sets of high cable abs

Zercher squats
45x10
95x6
135x8

Just to get the feel of the exercise

Farmers walk

80lb dumbells x 49 seconds

I was pretty sore friday, even though this was just trying out the new stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on some real strongman equipment(farmer's walk implements, big tire, big rocks, etc.) soon. Tomorrow starts the real first workout.

Nice. I love watching the strongman competition, hope to see you there.

Thanks jeff!

Workout yesterday:

OH squat - barx15

Sumo Deadlift - 45x10, 135x6, 185x5, 225x3, 275x1(this rep was slooow as hell)
I have to get used to these, they're a whole lot different on the body, but I'm expecting good results

Standing OH barbell press - 45x12, 95x6(behind the neck), 115x3(one press from back, one from front, and another from back), 115x2(one from front, one from back)

Incline DB press - 35x10, 60x5(these were tough after the OH presses, I think I'll take these easy like I did this workout from now on)

Powercurls
20x12
60x6
100x4
120x3
140x1
140x1
140x1

These are really fun, although it is kinda pitiful that I can powercurl as much as I can pushpress. Ah well I'm workin on it.

Bodyweight hyperextensions x 15

Bunch of stretching

Was gonna party my ass off last night, but we got to the house at 12:30 and they said they'd started the party at 7 and everyone was gone, but that they'd hook us up. 7:00, wtf? This scrawny hoe walks out and hands me a bottle of tequila with 2 ****ing sips left. Then she starts trying to tell my friend that he told her he loved her and that he should feel bad for not remembering. WTF?!? I almost slapped that hoe... anyway it was all good cuz we scored some good stuff from my other friend and had some fun back at the barn.

135x8
185x8
225x6

These were pretty easy, I'll bump the weight up alot next time

Shrugs

Hang clean
135x4 + 5 shrugs

Barbell rows
175x2 overhand + 5 underhand
175x5 overhand + 3 underhand

Walked 3-4 miles home because I didn't have the damn car

I always feel like getting in a fight after lifting, and that aggressive feeling has been increasing over the past few months. I stare EVERYONE down now, but its all good, just gives me more motivation for getting big..... so I can beat more ass...

What are plate rows? Are they like a DB row done with a plate?

Not really, just get some plates stacked up on eachother and pick them up with your hands on each side, palms facing eachother. Row them to your chest/abs like a bent over barbell row. I think I may start doing them at the end of my back workouts to help me get used to hugging heavy bulky weight like I would in the atlas stones or other events.

Did this today cuz I was aching to lift....

Push Presses
45x10
95x8
135x1
145x1
155x.5 I got a spot on this, and thank god... I got so fired up that bangin my head on the bar(my pre-lift ritual) nearly split my forehead open. I over pushed the lift and lost my balance and bent back uncontrollably. My spotter is one of the biggest guys I've ever met and I've lifted him a few times. He reps 455+ in deadlifts with no suit, no belt, and no chalk, we're talkin 10+ reps. Anyways, he managed to catch me and push me up, but my back went popopopopopopopop. Nothing was hurt...

145x2

155x1 I knew I was strong enough to do this, I just had to be careful not to lose my balance. Nailed it easily.
