School
Im 17 and im in Senior year of TTO/VWO, highest HS over here, which takes you to university. I want to be in medical school next year and that requires a certain level of grades. I have been slacking so far through my school career, depending on help from friends, quick learning ability and last minute efforts. This will simply not do this year.
There are 3 tests for every subject coming, and then the Exams.
My most important subjects are Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology.

The first tests take place October 27th through to November 2nd.
Time is pushing, I have lots of work to do. Today I will do Chemistry problems.

Comments

As you can see my Bi`s are very weak, while my back strength isn`t bad. I`m not sure why. I dont think they lag in size really.
Perhaps my technique on pulldowns and rows utilizes my bis alot.

are you sure your neck is right, if so you have a hugely disproportionate neck. I worked in a mens clothing store, and 18 was the biggest we sold, 19 is a huge neck. My measures(with the exception of my chest which is 41) are about the same as yours, and my neck is only 15.

Reinier
10-17-2003, 09:44 AM
People dont generally flex their neck when they have it measured for clothing.

I just measured again, some better.
Its really 46 cm, 18.1 inch

Thanks guys.

So far I had Math Chemistry and German.
Math was terrible and will cost me a resit. No i dont want to talk about it. The whole class screwed it up tho, even the best math kids.

Chemistry was decent, not sure how good, but definately a pass.
German was easy. thats gotta be a 9 or so.

tomorrow is Biology, the day after Physics and dutch, then friday English literature oral. I can`t **** anything else up, now that i ****ed up math. I get 1 resit for every one of these test weeks, so if i shoot straight from here, I can correct the math.

Im not even sure if it was a lack of preparation tho. it was just a really nasty test. Ill certainly do better on the resit with some more preparation, but i doubt it ll be fantastic.

Praetorian
10-28-2003, 02:14 PM
its funny hgow you can 'resit' tests. over here, if you screw up one, youre screwed.

Reinier
10-28-2003, 02:41 PM
its a new thing. we have a new system where you have to take more subjects and the tests come in test weeks, and if you hand in all your written work on time, you get one resit.

Reinier
10-29-2003, 09:39 AM
Had Biology today. Was ok, but not fantastic. a pass for sure tho.

Reinier
10-31-2003, 12:11 AM
Ive finished this test week with the exception of an english literature oral i have in 1.5 hours.

Altogether, im disappointed in myself. That chemistry test I thought I did decent on, came back a 5.2. I didn`t expect it. Then yesterday there was physics and the test was much too long for me, i could do the problems, but wasn`t practised enough to get it finished in the time. I think i only got to like 2/3.

and math was still terrible. Looks like its just crap, and entirely because of my own self overestimation and procrastination too.
This has been going on as long as i can remember... So many times I have promised myself, next term Im going to work my butt off. I dont even hate it. I`m just undisciplined, its sad.
ITs hardly the fault of what i did after i started this journal tho. I worked hard since then, in fact i skipped training this week to study. but I started it too late. I hope the spirit of this journal will remain alive from now, so that next test week, in 6 or 7 week, I can show those tests who is boss. Its sad, I have above average potential in my class for these tests, yet below average grades. and its all my own fault for being a jackass. As a spoilt untroubled white kid, I can honestly say my own lack of discipline is my largest problem in life, and has been since I was 12 or so and first had to do any work. Its over now though, even though its probably the 10th time I say this, it really is now. I`m going to report my study progress every week here to motivate me some more. I feel silly having to turn to such measures, but it seems its needed.

Reinier
10-31-2003, 12:13 AM
I`m training again this afternoon. legs. deadlifts. yes.

BennettBoy
10-31-2003, 06:42 AM
It is good at least you recognize the problem and are serious about getting it corrected. Just study some every day during the week dude. I use to sit down every single day at the table for 1.5-2.0 hours (was required by Mom LOL) and get all my school work done. Even through high school. But don't get too down on yourself. You know you have the knowledge and potential.....you just have to apply the discipline.

cphafner
10-31-2003, 07:03 AM
Sorry to hear about the chemistry exam, keep your head up.

Reinier
10-31-2003, 02:00 PM
So I had that English literature oral exam today. We read 5 books for english this year (they tell you what, so no choices, but theyre good books) and one of them we didn`t finish working through yet, and you got to choose one you didn`t want to talk about.

Remaining 3 for me were
Chaim Potok "The Chosen"
Aldous Huxley "Brave New World"
Sir William Golding "Lord Of the Flies"

pretty much everymans library ****. The procedure is you show up, they give you a copy of 2 random pages from any of the books, you get 20 minutes to prepare and outline what you are going to say, then you have to talk in monolog for 10 minutes about those pages and the book, then for 5 minutes the teacher asks questions. This entire convo is recorded for later analysis/grading.

The time it sayd on my timetable for this week, was the time my oral would start. I thought it was when the 20 minutes would start. You can figure out what happened. I came in, got those 2 pages and they started the recorder. I got 2 pages from Brave New World.
I was so tense but I did well, teacher kept saying how impressed she was and how she respects it. Its probably the only thing that went great this week.

I`d read a great analysis of the book the other night and used many of its points, and I also used the explanation of the final scene that WestyHeadBanger posted on WBB once (search for Huxley if you wanna see)

It went pretty sweet. But its only a little light on this test week, because my average in english is high enough already, and its not a main subject to me.

Went over to a friend, played some Halo on Xbox, then trained legs. following workout:

Day 3: Legs

Weigh-in 100.0 kgs not an ounce different from before this break. May have lost a tad muscle and gained a tad fat. but wont be much, it was only a week.

Deadlifts 8 reps
Warm-up
set 1 115 kg 8 reps
set 2 115 kg 8 reps
set 3 115 kg 8 reps

Machine Hack Squats for 10 reps
set 1 10 kg 10 reps
set 2 15 kg 8 reps

Seated Leg Extentions 8 reps
set 1 80 kg 10 reps
set 2 90 kg 8 reps

Lying Leg Curls 8 reps
Warm-up
set 1 70 kg 9 reps
set 2 70 kg 7 reps

Calf Raises 12 reps
Warm-up
Set 1 210 kg 12 reps
Set 2 210 kg 13 reps

Went to see Revolutions, which was a big let down and rather cheesy, then went to a small club near my home and danced for a good bunch of hours. didn`t pull, didn`t try to, much too busy dancing really. One time i kept getting squeezed in the ass and didn`t know what was up so i looked around there was this pretty fine girl but she didn`t react in any way, couldn`t have been her. This guy there was looking at me like he wanted trouble or something. When the club closed we left and home I found out my white pants were all wet from sweating :( mofo must have been mocking me about it. Pretty emberassing, yet dont really know what to do about it. I dont even sweat that easily these days, was just dancing really hard and long.

Bah. Had a great time though. Lots of friends. didn`t really get drunk, too expensive and need to do some more work tomorrow.

I collected some info for my big project for biology about Exercise and muscle, neurology and metabolism. I did about 11 math problems, and need to do another 20 or so now. I`m helping construct a School Yearbook for all the students taking their exams this year, so a book to remember the school by so to say. It ll have a first year and senior year book of every student, and a few lines about themselves and their time at the school. And pictures and stuff about some memorable teachers and pictures of the school.
Ive been asked to write a page or so on my time at this school.
I want to do that right. I`m not sure yet how I`ll go about it.

I think I will use my resit for physics, It was my lowest grade out of the important stuff and it`s also the one I can improve on the most. Resit is in a few weeks.

Busy day tomorrow. School, shooting range, then training, then a dancing lesson. Thats ok though. I like it.

Sadist :D

Our PM has made a statement saying that he disapproves of the satire and parody poking at our royalty and politicians in our media.

Funny thing is satire and parody artists have had a field day on this one. He can`t stop this lol. He shouldn`t. It`s rather silly.

I had a try-out psychology lesson in school the other day. I think its going to be continued. Its pretty interesting and cool.
More important however, the teacher is very young and extremely :hump: :drooling: and it is way cool to hear her lecturing about sexual psychology :D

Your lat lifts seem to outweigh all your other lifts...
You're stronger than me on the lat stuff, but im stronger on the other stuff. (im actually the same, my lats are pretty strong compared to other lifts)
Are you going light for some reason?

Keep it up man, I wanna be 100kg someday ;/

Just read through some of page 2, nice deadlifts dude!

Reinier

I wish i could say I am going light. :D

All my sets are to failure. I think i am dramatically stronger on the exercises I put first in my workout though, more so than other people.

Thanks about the deadlifts. Tomorrow Im doing 120 x 8 x 3.
If i can. But i think i will be able to do it. and then feel really messed up, and love it.

ChrisH
11-13-2003, 09:07 AM
Most ive deadlifted is 130 for 1 :(
Havent deadlifted heavy for a while cos i was getting treatment from chiropractor. One of my lower lumbars got locked up or something (i think it was from rugby), so compressing my spine isnt good for treatment!

ChrisH

I'll check your journal often, since you're the same age and similar lifts. I would say that we should compete on lifts, but in the end i'd get my ass whooped.

I did a 172.5 kilo deadlift max once. Then I got a knee problem (not from training btw, I fell nasty in basketball and it aggrevated a bit) I dont think I could do that right now, even though my lean body mass is higher. My knees are fine right now, better than they ever have been actually. I think I had that condition where guys in puberty get sore patellas without real reason, Osgood-Schlotter I think they call it. I guess that part of my puberty is over then. I wont be maxing for a while anyway. Id like to get 150 x 8 x 3 :drooling:

ChrisH

Holy crap!
I hope to get back into deadlifting soon. I got my final session (hopefully) with chiropractor today.

For the yanks:
172.5 kilo = 380lbs.

My lifts are progressing well. Im making good progress in the repetition deadlifts. The 3 sets I did today actually felt fairly easy.
Next time I will try 125 kg.

I slightly pulled my left trap because I did not warm up or stretch my traps the last time I trained back. I didn`t really feel it, only a very little bit, before I deadlifted today, I felt it clearly after, and now I feel it only a little bit again. I hope it will be fine.

We had a 2 hour lecture by a professor in Chemistry and Criminology today, it was interesting and cool.

I`m going to Rotterdam tomorrow to do some shopping. I need some pants, maybe shoes and maybe some shirts.

I`m taking my ballroom dancing partner and classmate to the Christmas prom at school, I need to check out how my suit fits me these days, I bought it last winter, or last spring, im not sure. Either way I lost a lot of weight since. I think the pants will be far too wide. Maybe ill have to buy some tomorrow too. I`m pretty down to earth and cool about the whole school prom thing, but its a big deal to her, so I do want to look the best I can because she will, and she will expect me to.

Guy from my small gym won the National Overall BB title for Holland yesterday.

I found out a girl in my class in school is actually (at least genetically) male but suffers from genetical AIS (http://www.medhelp.org/www/ais/) You`d never think. I`d even say she is attractive.
Basically has no uterus or ovaria or penis or testes, and probably a somewhat narrow vagina. Naturally has the Est level of a male, and supplements with more to look full out feminine.
She "came out" because she is going to be on an interview for a medical discussion program this wednesday, and she didn`t want people to be surprised by it. The medical and psychological meaning of the condition has been puzzling me all day.

My bicycle got stolen. It was an old but good bike, it was locked and it stood outside on the town for only 1 night, about 10 feet from the front door of the police station. BAH> I`m thinking about fencing my next bike to save cash. I know, i know, an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind and all that ghandi, but im still doing it. I`m not sinking as low as to nick one myself tho. I have the great talent to get caught doing the things everybody else gets away with.

I had a physics test resit this tuesday, I owned it. thats how it felt. I had the whole thing finished, wasn`t worried or doubtful about any of my answers. first time I took a test on this material i felt like **** about it and had a 5. so this should be a decent mark.

lol. Actually I wouldn`t mind. Not sure if id like to get with her, but the AIS part wouldn`t bother me. she has the complete form, so she actually has normal female external sex organs. Ironically she looks more feminine than average, not less. No testosterone reaction at all, combined with properly dosed estrogen supplementation does that. She is physically incapable of growing any body hair anywhere, getting pregnant, getting acne or getting a period. All good things for a GF imo. Shes actually quite pretty, the footage of her on that show was quite flattering, shes got real clear skin, very symmetrical face and isn`t as frail as most girls, possibly because of an XY skeletal model

Its cold here, it freezes at night, and at the gym we had the windows open, fan turned on and i was wearing a t shirt and shorts and i was sweating and grasping for air during this workout... feels great.

then real quick after another i did

smith oh press
dumbbell flyes
dumbbell side raises
pec deck
cambered bar rack close grip bench press
cable tricep pushdowns

then i ran at 11 km/h for 8 minutes. which had me sweating real bad and grasping for air a bit. some muscles hurt as i do this. tibialis anterior, thigh adductors and quads, erector spinae killed me a bit. weird. well its 1.5 minute longer than 2 days ago.

im going to build up some stamina.... want to be able to do well in all the street basketball comps next summer, and i think it will keep me from getting too fat as i gain weight

This is a bit late but I remember seeing that program! She was cute and seemed like a real nice girl. How is she doing now?

I weighed 105 kgs, in shoes and trunks at 11 am.

I did barbell rows
80 k 10 reps
90 k 4 reps :(
80 k 8 reps

the rest was a superset of narrow grip lat pulldowns, wide grip lat pulldowns, shrugs, barbell curls, dumbbell curls, and weighted crunches.

then I ran on the treadmill, 11 km/h for 10 minutes.
2 minutes up again. I could have pulled through a bit further but this was heavy on me already... grasping for air and lower legs hurting.

Ill try to add another 2 minutes next time, or maybe up the speed a bit.

It seems I have not posted here in months.
Well I'm back to my journal.

I have been training hard but less regimented... I'm just doing what I feel needs to be done at the time, kind of like big chasey chase does, although im not worthy of any kind of comparison to him in BB lol.

I weigh 104 kilograms now and my strength is roughly the same, perhaps slightly down. BB has moved down a bit on my priority list, I have been paying more attention to my exams, my girlfriend, fun, preparations for moving out to uni... preparations for my vacation.
There is a good chance that I will study in medical school in Belgium. Belgium is supposedly tougher and better than Holland too :hide:. but I want to do this pretty damn bad and I have the capacities. I'll just have to get my ass in gear.
Damn them kids grow up fast....

I spent the 30th of april in Amsterdam. the 30th of april is the previous, recently deceased queen's birthday in holland, its a national holiday where we are all free from work and school, we wear bright orange stuff, we drink beer, smoke weed and enjoy live music, etc.

Amsterdam is always the center of Q-day activity, the whole beautiful historic town centre was filled with happy drunk orange people and street artists and big shows. The weather was great, it was hot and sunny and beautiful. I love Amsterdam. There must have been 100 k people at museum square, and about 500 k in all of amsterdam. still everything went relatively orderly, I've seen some running cops but I have not seen or experienced any crimes myself.
There were many foreigners, english, german, american, australian, all agreeing that amsterdam really rocks ass.

Tomorrow I have an IB english exam, I have explained before I am in a special HS program that next to the usual education provides lessons to master the English language. Tomorrow I will get two texts on the same subject that I have not read before, and I will have to write a short essay of 750 words, comparing them. I get about 100 minutes for this. It's trickier than it sounds, they are quite strict but we've practised alot and I'll be fine.

heres some pictures of Queen's day in Amsterdam.
There were many big acts performing at this square and it was cool and it wasnt as crowded as it looks here, at least not when I came, it was full but you could still sit down in the grass if you wanted to.

Whats also cool is that this is right in the center of the city, not some rural area.
The whole city was cool not just the squares.

I think I'll head to the gym and train legs tonight and maybe do cardio... id probably have to do the cardio first because you cant squat and then run, at least I cant. Ill be even weaker than usual this way though. but thats ok, its all about intensity, not the weight lifted. Maybe thats bull**** but thats how im doing it now lol.

That English test went very well, now I have to do a sit-in essay in school the 10th. We come in, get assigned a subject and have 120 minutes to write a 2000 word essay in English. Quite the time pressure... They check these quite strictly too. Starting the 24th, which is so incredibly soon  I have my exams in Biology, Dutch, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Then even if i make it, im still not safe, I have a rather tough entry exam to pass in Brussels on the 6th of July. IOW, I shouldn't even be here right now.

Thoughts
An often mentioned natural reason for war to exist, how it reduces the population, is quite false because even a large, horrible battle will only get rid of about 1/1000.000th of the world population. Even the holocaust which is still a loaded word after 64 years have passed, only reduced the world population by about 0.001%.

What really causes overpopulation is poverty and how some people need many children to have somebody to care for them in unstructured countries where there is no pension or social care system.
War is more likely to actually aggrevate these situations. Then there is the church which has an outdated breeding policy of considering a big family a blessing.

If I clean up my room, do I get some kind of reward?
I'm so not ready to move out next september.
Maybe I should flunk school.

What I'm up to
I went over to a friend's house with the intention to study chemistry with him but of course, the worthless jackasses we are, within no time at all we were playing XBox and watching movies.

Then at night we went and played poker and drank beer with about 6 other friends at some guys place and went home and watched American Pie the Wedding, which was actually funnier than I expected. I hate sequals most the time but it was very amusing, while a bit predictable and overdone here and there.

I have a friend who is 100% the personality of Stifler... but trust me its not as funny in real life as it is in movies. He's quite the bastard.
My sister is home again, shes only home once a month or so now that she is in law school in Maastricht.

Training
I've been slacking. I'm getting a new routine. I think I'll think of something myself.

Diet
pretty crappy the last 2 days. It was the first time in my life that I ate pizza.

Yesterday I took an example of the Belgium medical sciences entry exam entirely in one sitting and checked it, I would have passed :).
It wasn't by a huge margin though, and there is also a human interaction part of the exam that I don't have a model for. However You get to try taking the test twice with a month in between and I still have time to prepare. So it's very likely I will pass. Now I need to pass HS first... Exams start in like, 2 weeks.

Thoughts
Hygiene is overrated and there is no real correlation between poor hygiene and acne. Look at people with severe acne who have tried everything in the book and keep their skin practically sterile. they still get new zits.

What I'm up to
I'm going over to a friend's house. He invited 16 friends and they're linking up 4 Xboxes. Then we play multiplayer halo  This is going to be rather extreme. I bet you die instantly. Totally sweet. Blood.
If my dancing partner who is upset because I stood her up last week at the dance school is not so mad anymore, I'm taking a dance class tonight. I have no school this week and partied a bit and slept over at friend's places and I really had no idea what day of the week it was. Turned out it was wednesday night and already too late to make it. This has not happened before in the over 50 dancing lessons that we took together.
I immediately called her up, explained and apolagised emphetically. She was rather pissed or at least pretended to be. She's a rather instable character and somehow loves to make people feel guilty it makes her feel better about herself. So there on the phone she made it sound like we could never speak again. She's been a close friend of mine for almost 2 years know and I know how crazy she is, I don't let it get to me and I make lots of idle attempts to talk some sense into her. Good part is, she is very honest, intelligent and witty. I feel sorry for her she has mental probs. She's in denial too, she keeps thinking more people are like her and I'm the odd one.

Training
I train tonight. I'm starting WBB III. I like the variety, how you take a different rep range every week. I'm hopeful.

Diet
Back on track.

Music

Dulce Pontes - "Cancao de Mar"

So I did the beforementioned essay exam. I liked the quality but I did not get as many words as I should. Then again nobody did, and we're usually a good group. So maybe it's not a problem and nobody got enough.
I wrote my essay on the question of whether or not Language = power.
It was pretty interesting, I even used a bit of George Carlin material in there lol. I made one big mistake though I made a reference to a Dutch author. They are totally not going to know him. Now the entire English school program is finished. 6 years of essay writing, oral examination preparations, literature analysis... all done now.

Thoughts
People are pathetic. Vandals need a more severe punishment. At least thieves have some kind of motive for their crime and could possibly be in need. I actually know a woman who is very serious about wanting there to be capital punishment for vandals. That might be a tad too much.
I've had my stuff vandalised a few times too often though.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 - 1:10 is the best part of the bible

What I'm up to
After the exam I hung around a bit and waited for my gf to come, we hung out a bit and then I went home to find somebody at the bus stop had let all the air out of my rear tire. It's not the first time this has happened either. I have no idea who did it, but he or she obviously deserves an asswhooping.

Training
I trained chest triceps and shoulders yesterday, doing a huge amount of sets on only a few exercises...

Db flat bench press
20 kg 8 reps
22 kg 7 reps
24 kg 7 reps
26 kg 7 reps
28 kg 7 reps
30 kg 7 reps
32 kg 7 reps
34 kg 6 reps

Dont ask me why I did that weird stuff. But I liked it. Maybe next week Ill do the same thing and start at 24 or so and see if I can go up to 36.

Smith seated OH press
1 set. sucked ass. I hate this machine.
Machine OH press
5 or 6 consecutive sets, increasing weight with every set. I'm not sure how much I did :(

Single arm cable tricep pushdowns.

I weighed 105 kg in the evening. bit too much. but I know why...

Diet
Kinda shady. ate some crap in school as I was in too much of a hurry this morning to pack chicken and bread and nuts.

Music
I can't believe the crap some people play real loud from their cars with the windows open. There was a guy in big sunglasses, a visor on his head sideways, a huge gold chain and a big golden earring in a VW Golf that was completely overtuned, who pulled up in front of where I was sitting waiting on my ride, with this really loud crap turned up with the windows open. I sort of looked at him with an extremely bored look, he took notice kept staring back, then flipped me off as he drove off. I didn't react. I suppose I got "Served", "F'ed in the A'", and "Owned" and "shown" amongst other things.

but I must have told you twenty times
that I just don't like minced calf.

Baby... sweet baby....

Come on now, stop the crying girl
It is so annoying.
Don't make this a drama now,
Wounds can really be very charming
Now just get a cold beer for me,
why not right away?
You do know
That underneath it all
I love you more than words can say

Baby.... sweet baby...

Should be a song, to a cheery piano tune, to accentuate the sarcasm/misplaced lightheartedness

I'm going to make last years Mathematics exam to practise and see what it is I need to work on.

Thoughts
People take themselves far too serious.

It's weird when Randy Newman sings "You are so beautiful, to me"
Is it just me or does that sort of imply that everybody else finds this person hideous?

What I'm up to
I slept over at my gfs house. Between yesterday and today I cycled about 39 kilometres (about 24 1/3 mile), all on a crappy, slow yet comfy and cool granny bike.

http://rumy.org/archives/images/opoe.jpg
Training
The other day I did deadlifts, close neutral grip seated cable lat pulldowns(mouthful), Barbell Rows, weighted crunches, and shrugs. I weighed 105 kg.
i did 135 kg deadlifts for 6 fast reps, then I did
145 kg 2-3 reps, I can't remember if it was 2 or 3. anyway it was less than I hoped I could get. I did get
Lat pulldowns 100 kg 12 slow reps with full rom.
Wide grip lat pulldowns 75 kg 10 reps
Weighted crunches 18.5 kg 12 reps

Diet
Decent. bit too little protein as I stayed with my gf. I'm not hardcore and careless enough to bake up some steak in her kitchen.

Music
Herman van Veen - Beter Land
Zucchero - Il Volo
Punjabi MC - Jogi (Some funky stuff)

1 I like the preacher because it's nothing like the rest of the bible. It's actually good as a novel. That quote is really the only Biblical quote I picked up from my atheist parents.

2 Has anybody you know actually had a gf that would fetch a cold one on command? It's like the Holy Grail. It's funny. I'm not even a sexist but it would just mean she's cool. I mean you could ask your best friend to bring you a beer from the fridge when he's over and walking about right? Why not the girl?

3 Yeah well Newman isn't momma's prettiest, it's probably true for every relationship he ever had :D

4 She's not a vegetarian in fact she really likes her meat(hihi, pun, naughty :)). However keep in mind we are both students and live with our folks. I'm still very much a "guest" at their house, I don't feel quite at home enough to light up the stove and stink up the kitchen baking steak in oil. Also they probably aren't packing steak, and if they are, it's their meal for the next day.

Those bicycles kick ass. I love goofy/old looking transportation. If I could fit in one I'd drive a Mini Cooper.

Working on math. 3 hour long exam next tuesday. that's in a week... wow.

Thoughts
The Dutch level of education is steadily dropping. It sucks.

Michael Moore at Cannes Film Festival Rocked. It's sick how he doesn't have a distributor in the USA anymore because he easily sells enough to make revenue no matter what you think about him. So much for free trade and free speech. Nobody simply dares handle him for fear of their connections and reputation.
I realise he likes his disinformation but the main lines are true and he is on the right side.

In case you guys don't hear too much about this in the USA... his anti-Bush regime docu/movie got the longest and loudest applause of all presented films and his speech at the opening, not very nuanced, like we who know him, was received better than anything Brad Pitt did there.

What I'm up to
I went over to my sister's place in Maastricht, in the far south east of Holland. It's not that far on the map, but the connection is very indirect and poor so it takes me a good four hours. It was very hot and sunny today and I had lots of heavy stuff on me and the humidity was high. It was quite uncomfortable.

It was worth it though. I went there yesterday, met up with my sister and went to her home, met her roommates and some more people, then we went for dinner in this Italian place where I had a steak with black pepper sauce and pasta with tomato sauce and a wine :hump:. Then we went to the theatre to see the performance of Youp van 't Hek. You won't know him but he's legendary here, he's a workaholic, does many shows every season and sells them all out long beforehand. I don't think he's had an empty spot in his shows for 20 years. My sister bought the tickets like 7 months ago.
http://home.student.uva.nl/harm.dijkstra/Theater_Carre/Youp_van__t_Hek/a_youpvanthek.jpg

It was great. He basically ran his usual routine, it was predictable to those who know all his work, but I still loved it because he's the best at it.

It was hilarious and eye cleansing as usual.

He's a comedian who does about a 3 hour show of speech, song and some dialog. He basically mocks the world, our country, television and people. Specifically upper class people and their stupid bourgeois crap and hypocrisy.
He basically attracts an audience that's there to be taunted for being a self centered whiny predictable run of the mill, spoilt, boring windbag who makes stupid excuses. People love it. His show is one coherent, well constructed flowing story around a few imaginary but realistic and recognisable people he supposedly knows.

After the show we went straight to my sisters university frat house for the bar night there. They have the coolest place its a huge ancient fort underground, in the middle of the city. This allows for almost anything to be done without bothering anybody with the noise and it's just a great atmosphere. All beer was on the house and served 1.5 pint glasses. It's not really like a frat because it's for both guys and girls, it's like a frat/sorority united. It's also not the same kind of vibe US frats have because they have a more logical function here since we don't have campus, we have some students living dispersed through a whole city, so it's a logical place to meet and make friends.

The place as cool, they did not play any music but still it was loud with the talking of groups of people. I have never met so many cool and smart young people in a short time before. The women were all sharp and witty and relaxed and most were pretty and cool. The guys were just totally being frat guys and wearing suits, drinking huge amounts of beer, messing around, and singing loud testosterone and beer filled songs in a purposely low voice.

Some of these girls man, hot damnit. :hump:
They were all tanned too, they had gone to Tunesia for a week with the bunch of them recently. One girl I talked to for a while looked like Britney Spears, except some slimmer and smart and funny and with better taste, instead of annoying. She was a first years there, so only a year older than me and I seem older than I am, I'd have loved to get to know her some more but she did not seem too interested in that way, and I'm already provided for and we live way far apart. She did say I should really really join the place when I go to Uni and I'd really fit in, but they're all fanatic recruiters so it's nothing. Who am I kidding like I'd stand a chance with her anyway the whole frat was probably already loving her.

My sister:"Of course she's still only a first year member. Can't you see she's still very slim?"

Training
None now. All my exams next week. :zipit: It was quite the stunt for me to hang out in Maastricht now. I did math on the train though.

Diet
Reasonably ok, with the exception of going to bed hungry after drinking 10 beers and 2 wines.

Music
Chocolate Puma - Be With You (AKA "I wanna Be U") (Well sounding cool party song. some kind of white party soul/dance) There are some different versions out though and the one I like seems to be rare online :(

CCR - Down on the Corner (I only recently discovered these guys. I knew
they existed but always thought I'd never like them. but I was wrong)

Herman van Veen - Zingende Doden
("Singing Dead")
So pessimistic and cynical but so beautiful and true.

Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart
(I know, I know, the 80's are gay. Keep in mind I hardly grew up in them and have not been overfed this stuff at any time, and I simply think this guy is a good singer. More about that than about the tunes or the backup vocals. in fact I think those suck. So much for the disclaimer lol)

Thoughts
Most rich people are a bit hypocritical.
When they pretend to care about poor people living hard or how they will sometimes talk themselves into believing they are doing the best thing for everybody in society, since they spend a lot of money on themselves. They would stimulate the economy just as much, if they gave that money away to people who would spend it on something they needed, instead of wanted.

I can understand people want to pamper themselves, that's how people are, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't be the hero AND the pimp at the same time.

Another thing that bothers me is people's pure worshipping of "the free market". Value, labour and demand purely based on competition, and noone is to interfere.

This is meant to be fair and create the strongest possible economy.
If people want to help the poor, they can do it when and how it suits them and the government should not be allowed to force them.

This would be just, if people got a fair idea of the poverty of their fellow man. In order not to be forced to stop this plea entirely because it goes off the scale I will limit myself to within the USA and the EU.

People who have money, by large, have no idea how many people don't have money in their own country and what life is like for them.

This is because of the media, which is also privatised and therefor has to make profit to exist. Media makes profit because of sponsors, advertisers. These advertisers are not interested in reaching an audience that has no money. Therefor, for the media to be a succesful company in selling an audience to the advertisers, it has to attract an audience of people that have money. They do this by making television that they can relate to- television about people and issues that have money. The poor are severely undermentioned.

The income bracket that the media and most people refer to as the "Middle-Class" is much much richer than the median citizen. The average person working in the EU or USA makes about 30 thousand dollars a year.
Yet most people will say a "middle class income" is around 80-100 thousand dollars a year.

The US median income (50% make more, 50% make less) is 26 thousand dollars annually per person. Median household income is 42k. So if you have three roommates living in a house, who each make $7 an hour working full-time, that is an average american household. However that is never portrayed in the media.

In other words, one may say people will help the poor when they want to, but this is not fair, because people get a skewed image of how the people in their country are doing.

All that I have sayd so far, refers to a theoretical system, in which a free market is actually in place. The truth is however, that what we usually see in libertarian, free market societies, is that those who are higher up the corporate and political ladder, are often heavily subsidized. Often even those who feel passionately for the free market. Around 20% of large, transnational corporations could not even exist without government funding.

In other words, labourers are to accept the punches of blows of the free market as a tradeoff for the money they make in it, but those who get the most out of this market, don't have to take the fall, they have an exclusive right to the protection of the nanny state.

PS This is not meant as a militant propaganda post I would be glad to read the posts of people who disagree

Paul-

I never took Economics or Political Science at any level but I do know that.

The Free Market is the unhampered, uncontrolled functioning of supply and demand.

Libertarianism is the belief that individual freedom should be maximized and government power minimized.

Ectx-

Politics and economics are confusing, frustrating and unscientific but I just WANT to know about these things. I have an opinion but I'm not confident in it and so I like to have it "critiqued". Then all that leads to is a lot of condescending attitudes from both sides and nobody ever getting convinced. Everybody thinks the other party doesn't live "in the real world". It pisses me off.

I enjoy life, don't worry... I have some great things planned for this summer and it's quite impossible to get me down.

School
This week, NOW, as in, at this moment, I am the week of my final HS exams.
So far I have done

Dutch
Mathematics
Physics
Biology

I'm fairly sure I passed all four. It wasn't all that hard
The tests our school gave us were actually harder than the national exams.
Now I only have English and Chemistry to go. English is this friday and Chemistry is next wednesday. I have a lot of work to do for Chemistry.

French, German, General Sciences (the basic all round science subject mandatory even to alpha's), Arts, Gym Class, History, Literature are subjects that I already passed and completed. They do not include a national examination, only a school one. It's because I only took the minimal level in these subjects. The subjects I exam in I have the full package.

We have a grading system that goes from 1 (you get this even if you hand in a blank sheet) to 10 (a single spelling mistake in a 3 hour test will prevent you from getting a 10) You need a 6 to get your diploma.

Your diploma grade is the average of all the grades you got in the last three years of high school, averaged with your exam grade, then rounded up or down to one decimal. The subjects you finished without a national also go on the diploma.
so
50% school tests
50% national exam

Then they take the number devidable by 1 that is closest to this. 5.5 becomes a 6.

Compared to the USA, there are more different types and gradations of High School and less focus on the grades you get in that type. I'm in the highest type but I'm usually very much of a 6.0 student. My average over all my grades is about a 6.8 - 7. Lack of effort really.

Some Universities pay attention to your grades but most don't. The one I'm going for has an entry exam. It's supposed to be a spicey entry exam though. Medical school Belgium has the entry exam on the 6th of July in Brussels, Belgium.

So only English and Chemistry to go. My average school test grade in English is a 9.5. Highest in the school... I did last years national english test and got an 8.9 but I finished it in half the time I was allowed to use.

I think if this friday I really try and read carefully I can make a 9.5 and then I have a 10 for English on my diploma. Both very cool, and very useful, since I'm still also shooting for medical school in Holland, which has a lottery for entry in which the likeliness of you getting in depend on your grade average.

Then next wednesday Chemistry. My school average is a 5.4
It's my lowest. My father has a Phd in Chemistry, so has my grandfather, and so had my grandfathers' father. I'm a disgrace to them.
Anyway this means I need a 5.6 to pass. I'll be shooting higher than that of course.

Thoughts
It's summer now. *looks out*

What I'm up to
I am a PC-potatoe extreme. I wear nothing but my robe all day.
I wash myself properly every day but I still stink. My room stinks too. I'm gonna open all the windows and put my fan at full power.

Training
I'm going to train again today. First time in a long time. I don't think my body changed that much though. My guess is I lost some weight, but not all muscle, some fat too.

Diet
I've been eating ok, maybe not frequently enough.

Music
Oasis - Go Let It Out
(the Gallaghers kick ass. Even if they're a bit "yesterday")

Queen - Innuendo
(Queen rocks. Freddy is an amazing singer)

Rod Stewart - If You Want My Body
(Only just found out this is his song. I only knew the lame version some dance act did some years ago)

John Lee Hooker & Miles Davis - Harry's Philosophy
(This is brilliant and stupid at the same time. It's like a rhythm and tone gifted ****** is trying to say something for three minutes straight)

Herman van Veen - Liefde
(I can't stop putting this ****er on here I'm sorry)

Well I still have a 9.

Thoughts
So there. Six years have gone. I do feel unfulfilled because I have never been committed to my studies. I always worked in the eleventh hour, in the last minute, in a hurry. I've had days before a test where I had to study a chapter of Chemistry with 10 paragraphs and I didn't know where to start, and I made a list of 10 smart friends to call, and I'd call the first and say, "Say about this Chem test, I think I'll manage you know but I'm not sure if I'm really seeing what they're getting at in paragraph 1, could you explain it to me a bit? They would do this, I would make notes, and I would call the next person for the next paragraph. Not just desperate, nasty and deceitful too.

Now I'm gonna get this diploma and it's a good diploma, it will allow me into any school I want, but I'm not sure if I can do it. I can't do it with this style there. It looks like I'm going to the Belgian Leuven University Medical Faculty, which is probably the most advanced medical Uni in Europe. They bust ass. I never even really kept an agenda before, I have only ever made lecture notes on the back of handouts, that I would find crummed up in a ball in my bag a week later.

I will do this though, I have no choice, I have no idea what else to do and I want to learn these things really bad. I know I have the capacity I just need the discipline.

Looking back on my High School period I think I can conclude I have had a good one. I've had my times of teen angst and insecurity but they have passed, I have always had friends, I have never been bullied and generally I have had very little worries.

All through high school I have struggled with group identity though.
I have always been slightly torn between the careless easygoing spontanious jackasses, and the arrogant, networking, socio-economic ladder climbing preppies...

I'm really neither.
When I talk to one of the latter, I notice they are weirded out by me when I do something random or silly or pointless, or when I say something just because it crossed my mind. You can see them observe this and tilt. They seem to be thinking,
"Why could he possibly be doing that? How does it make him seem more popular or wealthy or happy? I don't get it."
This rather disgusts me at times. This pure, open fakeness of everything.
They honestly don't care one bit about art, science, sports, politics, anything. They don't even want to hear about it. They just want their diploma's already so they can go off to climb a new ladder. There is no need for a further meaning. They were raised this way, their parents are representatives of some big company and have been trained for years to seem like something else and lick heels.

Then you got the guys who throw a 16 people LAN party at their house with a big deepfryer and lots of discount crisps and don't shower for four days and order pizza and tell 30 fart jokes. They are real. Yet I'm not completely comfortable with them either. Maybe I just can't accept the truth.

My girlfriend feels a bit weird about me graduating and all, she's got more time to go and it's a weird perspective to see things in. It makes you feel like you want to move on too, I remember from when my older sister graduated.

I bought a mobile phone!
I never wanted one before, I always thought watches were for those poor people who had to be places in time, and phones for those tragic cases who have no freedom or independance, but since I drag my ass all over the area in summer and it's just going to make meeting up, or getting a ride from someone so much easier, I decided to give in and invest in the ultimate contemporary manifestation of petty consumerism and bought a pretty new transparant metallic grey Nokia 2100. http://www.siamphone.com/picture/nokia/2100/2100.jpg

Luckily I did not have to bear the shame of walking into an electronics store, a grown man, and talking to some spike haired elec-kid about which shiny-beepy-thingy I wanted and how many SMS's they can hold. My father bought it for me. In fact he insisted he would go shop for one with a subscription, because he likes elec toys and he doesn't have anything else to do.

Now that I have this phone, I'm happy like a little boy and I play with it. It has lights in it too so you can play Snake II in the dark under your blanket:).
If any of you wake-up callers wants to call me be my guest, 0031621851404

What I'm up to
I promised my mother I would help around fixing up the garden tomorrow and I have decided that given it will not be raining I will go for a swim in the lake. Both because it's rediculous I haven't swam yet this year, and because it's good cardio. Then - let's see - Tomorrow is a Friday (hehe you forget about these things when you have a vacation until the 31st of September:D) then I think I will call my girlfriend and ask her if she wants to join my friends to the local club Saturday night and sleep over at my place. She'll probably come over early and we'll go sailing or hit the beach in the afternoon.
Also I have to clean my room. Especially since I read that "Do you wash your hands" - thread in Chat.

Training
I went to the gym and got right on the treadmill.
I ran 12 km/hour for 6 minutes, then I slowed down a bit, then went up to 16 km/h and I continued to change the speed to push myself a bit every time and then pull back. I was one sweaty fat German man after this.

Then I did deadlifts, incline bench press, pec deck, leg extentions, cable tricep work, that's about it I think.
I weighed 106 kg but that's at 21:00 at night, in my shoes, and a sweater. So I'm still weighing about the same.

Diet
Lately I have been eating more carbs and less fat, and about the same number of calories. Nothing really changed.

Music
Starsailor - Tie Up My Hands

I love the sound of this band but I do imagine I will grow tired of it quickly.
The voice is slightly too accentuated to tolerate for longer times. They actually performed in Holland like two days ago I think. Pinkpop festival. That festival sucked this year, first time in like 40 years that they did not sell all 60 thousand tickets. It's because there was no huge acts.

I really should take driving lessons this summer. I have always held the opinion that driving is something for chauffeurs, but I just pinched myself and I was only dreaming and I am in fact not a millionaire, so maybe I need to invest in a driving course.

In Holland you don't get to drive a car until you are 18 years old, like in most of the world. You have to pass a theory exam and a practise exam. The theory exam has to have been passed a maximum of 6 months before the practise exam.

I suppose I can do my theory exam soon and do the practise later this summer. These courses are quite pricey, most my friends had to work their ass off to afford their drivers license but I'm spoilt and my parents don't know any better than that they are to pay for it.

I'm not too thrilled. Maybe it's because I won't have my own car for a while anyway and my parents drive two really old worn out Fiat's.

It's a big piece of independance though and I'm not one to drive a phat car anyway.

I've never done this sort of thing, I may be a good shot (see higher in journal) but I doubt this will help me here. Some of my friends are hardcore online deathmatch veterans and that will probably help them more.

Music
Amalia Rodrigues - O Poeta

I never know what the hell she's talking about. Doesn't really matter.

Prince - Pope (live)
Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet
Wagner - O Fortuna

I feel like invading Poland now.

Nuttin much

Music
nuttin much. but I like this lyric

I have that delicate feeling
for every loon, for every fool
who roams outside without a goal
who is noone's boss and noone's hand

I have that delicate feeling
for he who shouts out loud
who sees every gesture cold
for whom every herd will close

I have that delicate feeling
for whom confuses himself in dream
and where that dream defies the truth
sometimes his laugh, sounds slightly hard

I have that delicate feeling
for every girl, for every man
who in complete defenselessness
can love another human soul

I can no longer post in General Chat because I stir up too much trouble.
I understand and respect the decision and I'll be the frst to admit that stirring up passionate reactions was the very thing that kept me posting there anyway and what made it interesting to me.
I was given many warnings before and should have probably stopped it long ago

This makes work unnecessarily long for mods and Hulk was cool to keep me out of there.

Reinier

McBain
what do you want to say?

Heb je John al ontmoet? = Have you met John?
Ik word gek van je = You drive me crazy
Je bent mooi = You are pretty
Bel me = Call me
Treinconducteurs zijn inderdaad sukkels. = Yeah, I hate train personnel too
Hoe gaat het = How are you?
Hoi = Hi
Ik hou van je = I love you
Je bent lief = You're sweet
Ga door = Keep doing that
Gebruik je handen ook = Use your hands, too
Er is geen verkeerd gat = There is no wrong hole
Wil je met me trouwen? = Will you marry me?
Lieg niet = Stop lying
Heb je honger/dorst? = Are you hungry/thirsty?

School
I'm practising Medical school entry exams. It's tough but I should be ok

Thoughts
They say you should never judge a book by it's cover, but I don't have the time to read every book in the library.

In order to score you have to shoot

Training
I'm training every other day and I'm training as hard as I can, but I cycle to and from the gym now and it's 19 kilometres and it's warm these days so my energy is kind of low to train and I'm weaker than I should be. I weighed in at 107 kilograms the other night, wearing my sneakers and long pants, and just having drank a lot of water.

Diet
Same food, different day. I ate deepfried stuff at my friend's house watching the game and drank some beer. :whip:

What I'm up to
I watched Holland play Germany in soccer the other day. Good match. Ended 1-1. Tomorrow between 16:00 and 17:00 The school will call me if I failed my exams. I'm scared I failed, but I'm also scared somebody else will call me in this timeframe.

Music

Nirvana - Rape me

Don't all their songs sound alike? I still like them somehow.

Metallica - Turn the Page
One of the few succesful, improving cover songs.

Maria Mena - You are the only one

What a weird song, it annoys me, somehow I don't like the girl just for hearing this song even while I know nothing about her. It does sound very sincere. Maybe that's what I don't like.

Boris - Papa was Rolling Stone

This guy won the "Idols" show this year. He's a rather ignorant **** but I have to admit he can really sing. This may be the best version of this song yet.

Zeki Müren & Muazzez Abaci - Biz Ayrilamayiz
Arabs get weird. Woohoo.

I have two mp3's of the song Cocaine one says it's by ZZtop the other says it's Eric Clapton

Chopin Piano Concert Nr 2 1
I like Chopin. I saw a docu once on musical prodigy's and there was this 6 year old, pretty Russian girl who played Chopin on piano in a filled theater and was interviewed later and said :
"I was in the right mood for Chopin today. It takes a certain mood to play Chopin, you must not think too much, you have to mean it. If you are too rational, you will mess it up."

She is the master of the Universe, made me feel stupid and painfully untalented.

I got ****ing called. I failed chemistry. I have to take a new chemistry exam the 23rd.

Damn.
I deserve it anyway. It would be a disgrace to the Dutch school system if I passed with so little preparation.

I got a 5.3 and needed a 5.7 to pass. So I need to improve at least .4 points.

School
The 23rd has come and the 23rd has gone.

After I finished this exam, I felt it was unlikely I had failed it.
Then when I looked up the answers online and compared them to what I recalled writing down, I felt it was very unlikely I had failed it.

Now that I have spoken to my Chemistry teacher, a short noble man who happens to also be a priest, I feel almost certain I have made it.

He is not allowed to tell me anything until the official date on which the result is to be revealed, but he gave me several clear hints that I was safe, he even told me to be sure to start practising early for the medical school entry exam day and he asked me if I had kept thursday the second of July free, which happens to be the date I will be handed over my diploma if I have made it.

In other words, things are looking bright.

Thoughts
Is it not strange how we feel uncomfortable when we are lost for words when encountering somebody we know who starts to talk to us? Are we "supposed" to always have something to say and know how to say it? It appears so.

Training
Bleh. I trained but I was weak.
Bench press barbell
40 kg 8 reps
50 kg 8 reps
60 kg 8 reps
70 kg 8 reps

Db Bench press
30 kg 6 reps
26 kg 8 reps

Cable tricep pushdowns with the rope attachment

Seated Calf work

Weighted crunches.

Diet
I feel a bit fat and frankly, I am.

What I'm up to
I went to the graduation ceremony of my peers, who did not need a resit. I felt rather left out and incompetent. I was. It was nice, it gave perspective in retrospect. Every graduate was announced with a speech on them by the teacher that had been closest to them. I felt painfully left out of this attention. I have come to terms with the fact, that I long for a stage, long for an audience, long for attention.

While it was sour that I will not have certainty of my graduation until wednesday the 1st of July and will not get my diploma if I get it until the 2nd of July, I still enjoyed the ceremony. Some of the teacher speeches were genuinely thought provoking or amusing, which was a surprise, since most attempts at humour or rhetoric by teachers fail miserably. Maybe it was because of the nature of the audience, honour class grads and their parents, that they were more in their element.

My girlfriend is coming over tomorrow, I can't wait. I don't usually boast about this kind of thing, but since this is the internet and rules are different here, and you get to brag- Soon I will have a little ménage á troi with my girlfriend and her friend. Both are very attractive, neither is slutty. Maybe some of you do this sort of thing every second friday night of the month, but my mental balls just swelled up to twice their previous size.

Music
I have bought two first class tickets to Herman van Veen in the Rotterdam, Holland Luxor theatre on my 19th birthday, the fifth of march 2005.
In short, he's a singer/storyteller/comedian/violin player who is not really famous in any country, but a little bit famous in every country. He does his shows and songs in no less than 5 world languages and in his long impressive career he has sold a huge number of records and albums, without ever making a chart anywhere as far as I can recall.

http://www.itoa.nl/pso/images/Herman2.JPG

He is perhaps my favourite artist, no not just my favourite musician but actually my favourite artist. His shows and songs give a view of the world that is intelligent, yet simple, childlike and innocent. His voice is deep and large, he could be sitting across the table from you and sound like he is standing in a cathedral. His voice sounds of sincerity.
http://www.hermanvanveen.com/Foto%27s/Bel03_06.jpg

I have no less than 163 of his songs on my harddrive and I could write down most of the lyrics in these on command. I pretty much listen to him 50% of the time I listen to music.

http://www.popinstituut.nl/isb/2643_1972.jpg

I don't know where this obsession came from. The man is not a brilliant singer, he has a unique voice but his technical qualities as a vocalist are limited. The music that supports his words, while often perfectly fitting, is basic. I could give you no rational explanation why he appeals to me so much.
I suspect it is his all overruling, unquestionable air of sincerity, that leaves no doubt that every word he says is real. I have always had a lot of trouble dealing with even the slightest hint of pretentiousness in music. I'm jealous of the man for getting to be in front of audiences, being himself. How many people get to do that?

I'm glad I have these tickets. I just don't know who to take. Who would the obvious person to take be? Surely a female. My girlfriend, if I'm still seeing her then, or maybe my ballroom dancing partner, or my mother or my sister even. I'll never find someone to go with that feels as strongly about this artist as I do. I almost feel like going alone.

I guess out of all the things one can do to a person, it's not a terrible thing.

I did not mean to.

Are you criticising me? If so, please be more specific, so I can understand.
If you find it amusing that I suddenly go on a rant about this guy in here let me explain, the reason I type on here is hardly so that other people read it, it's more so that I can write things down, and to symbolically send my thoughts away into this endless void that is the internet.

Perhaps the appearance of the guy in the pictures is amusing to you. This is not surprising, he even refers to himself as a clown. In case there is any doubt, I'm being serious.

Tomorrow I'm going to Laren, Holland to see my paternal grandfather. it's his 94th birthday. All of my paternal relatives will be there. Some of them are rather unpleasant people. Then again maybe me and mine are to blame too for the fact we're not a very close family. There's also an unspoken friction between us because there's an inheritance of my grandfather we'll have to work out how to share some time. Still my father's sister's husband and his son have a certain air of immature misplaced arrogance. Both tried to be scientists but failed for lack of intelligence or discipline and became wine-specialists and they now like to talk about how good the wine was the other day and how incredibly drunk they were. They are like 60 and 25. They also enjoy talking about money as if they have money to piss away, while they're actually close to rock bottom.

I have no problem with people who aren't really smart or really rich, but when they still desperately seek pride in those things, it becomes a bit pathetic.
It's obviously also very fake. I heard the girlfriend of that 25 year old cousin is a very humble sweet young cute girl. Obviously behind that pompous mask of superiority is a little boy who wants a hug. Anyway I will try and forget the past and approach them with a friendly open mind. Maybe they changed.
It's a shame we aren't better together.

...what appears to be failure can often be used as a steppingstone or a launching pad to success - your day will be coming. You should be proud of yourself for going to the graduation ceremony. Clearly this is a great time to step back and take stock of everything in life and appreciate it for what it is worth, including the art in which you are fond of. Best of luck with the family gathering, there are those I find trying in my situation as well, lol - ;)

Thanks. In a way it's a good thing that I had to take a resit. It will have no real consequences now that I have most likely made it, and it has shown me
A. That I'm in fact not smart enough to pass everything with low effort.
B. That a mere week of medium intensity revising can make a huge difference.

They lost and deserved to lose and Portugal is in the Finals, where they will lose to the Czech Republic.

I get my diploma today! I got the relieving call yesterday, I passed the resit for Chemistry and met the standards to graduate the "Preparing Scientific High School Education".

And my grandfather gave me 600 bucks for it and many other relatives have decided to sponsor me now too. :)

Brussels next Tuesday... scientific, intelligence, general knowledge and case-by-case insight testing to qualify for med school from 8:40 in the morning until 16:30 in the afternoon.

I'm getting a hotel in Brussels so I don't have to leave home at 5am in the morning to get there in time. I have never been to Brussels. After taking the test I will go to the southern part of Belgium where my GF is staying for the week with her family and stay over there a few days. I find out if I passed for med school the 13th of July. If I failed, I can take part in another test sitting the 31st.

Today I'm going to practise for the test using old tests, then I will cycle 12 miles to my gym where I will train abs, arms and chest, I'm not a curl jockey this is really what I need to be training today. Then I will go to school to receive my diploma, I missed out on the big ceremony of course, but I'll be joined by some friends.

Funny coincidence- My aunt was here the other day and she heard Herman van Veen music from my room and came up to hear and she turns out to love his music. Now I'm making her a DVD with his music to send.

She is my maternal family. That side of the family is slightly more normal and friendly in general. Still we've in the past had more support from the paternal side when we really needed it. Paternal side is more rational and reliable while maternal is nicer to be around in informal get togethers.

Starting today, Holland is the chairman of the EU for 6 months. It has a rotating leadership system. Holland is supposed to lead the meetings now.
I don't know exactly what they do though. It's a bit vague
