Some1 keeps telling me prawns are high in cholesterol, but i cant seem to find any information on it.
I assumed food needs to be fatty to contain cholesterol, such as eggs and fast food.
Prawns contain hardly any fat (unless dressed or smothered in mayonnaise etc) so is there any truth in this?
I also know there is good and bad cholesterol (LDL and HDL) but eggs for eg. are BAD but harmless in reasonable amounts.

Im just being cautious however since i eat up to 400g of prawns a day as well as 4 eggs a day, and i dont want to ruin my health.

I remember reading that 1 oz (28.3g) contains 275mg of cholesterol.

I thought that theres no proven link between dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol, and that high cholesterol levels in the blood are due to a genetic predisposition. I suppose one way to check would be to get a blood test thing now, then get one in a few months and look at the difference. But im sure there are a load of studies on it.

This is true, and other factors will also contribute to high cholesterol, such as saturated fat intake.

Here is a related thread:)http://www.wannabebigforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35034&highlight=cholesterol

ive just been reading about cholesterol...

ok the body needs 1000mg a day, it synthesizes it on its own.
However if you ate 500mg it would know* and only produce 500mg.

If you ate too much say 2000mg in 1 day you would be adding 1000mg LDL chol into your system which is obviously bad.

* there is a genetic dysfunction that stops some ppls cholesteral production @ 1000mg no matter what, they simply dont register the excess in there diet. These are at risk of having high cholesterol levels.

So i guess the moral is keep ur cholesterol under 1000mg per day and keep ur HDL levels up.

Bradley?

I don't think cholesterol intake should be a concern unless high cholesterol runs in your family, but then again I would not recommend eating huge amounts of cholesterol everyday.:) From the studies I have seen cholesterol intake can impact different people in different ways, so it would be difficult to lump all cholesterol "advice" into one category. My recommendation would be to keep cholesterol intake at a moderate intake and keep an eye on saturated fat intake. If you are following a balanced "clean" diet, cholesterol intake should not be a concern. Unless of course you are eating a dozen eggs a day:)

Did you see the thread I posted above?

If you're eating clean, cholesterol isn't really a concern.

heh, i am eating clean but im eating a lot of cholesterol hence why i was asking about its safe limit.

4 eggs and 400g of prawns is very close if not over 1000mg
