God, it was HILARIOUS!

"I loove getting ah pomp. Iss betta than haffing secks wit a whooman ant comming. Iss like comming aw ze time."

I also the loved the segment when Ah-nuld talked about missing his dad's funeral (albeit it wasn't true but, still funny)

But seriously though, it was a great motivator. Being that Arnold retired from bodybuilding before I was even born, it was a great inspiration to see him doing what he did best. Also, Franco Columbu's back was jaw dropping! The fact that these guys built their incredible physiques with a fraction of the knowledge we have today is mind boggling.

Great movie, pick it up if you haven't already.:D

I was watching the movie when my folks came over. Arnold started talking about all the cumming, my dad is looking at me like "What the HELL are you watching?" and my mom looked at me and says "What's he talking about?" My nephews and niece were running around.

I had to turn it off. They already think I'm a nutcase for going to the gym all the time.

We watched it the next day. It was cool, but Arnold came off looking like a manipulative backstabber.

It's true these guys didn't have as many scientific studies in their corner. But they still had one of the best forms of knowledge going for them, personal experience. It's good to study up but don't sell their knowledge of lifting short. These guys knew what they were doing .

I didn't mean they were cavemen lucky enough to build freaky physiques:)

What I shoulda said rather was it's amazing they became such monsters basically from ball-breaking hardwork, food, and nowhere near the pharmaceutical "help" today's pros have.

Why do you say that this is not true? I have read several articles about Arnold that talk about him missing his father's funeral because traveling home would have screwed up his Olympia prep.

Goph, there's an interview with Arnold on the DVD and he says he made it up to help the storyline of the movie. The producers said it was boring watching muscle heads lift weights for hours so they needed to spice things up. Arnold confessed that his dad actually passed on in 1972, 5 years before the film was made. Some moroan journalist probably saw that, didn't bother to check the facts and ran the story. It's not true.

No movie makes me question my own sexuality quite like this one does.

I've never understood the hype about this movie. I've seen it, Ronnie's video and Dorian's video. Personally, Dorian's is by far my favorite. No talking, no crap just heavy lifting.

Well yeah. I knew you didn't mean they were clueless. I was just throwing out the thought of personal experience being the best means of knowledge.

Of course we today have a bit of an upper hand having scientific evidence and being able to test it ourselves and see what we come up with.

HomeYeild, it illustrates the comeradery and how fun it was back then, these guys just had star quality.

I just rented it (on DVD) the other day. Just awesome.

Observations:
* Of course, Arnold had to clear up all the rumors. This way, he doesn't have to answer the questions in any more interviews.
* I enjoyed the old footage of Sandow in the opening credits. That was a nice touch.
* Form? Good proof here that you don't need perfect form or slow reps to build big muscles. :p
* No real mention of diet. Either these guys kept themselves pretty close to contest shape all the time, or the producers (understandably) didn't give any airtime to pre-contest cutting.

I dunno if I'd ever buy it (I'd be too worried someone would catch me watching it or spot it in my collection), but it was fun to see.

That would mean that you are embarrassed about bodybuilding/weightlifting. Who cares what other people think... Pumping Iron is a cult classic for anyone who is seriously into lifting.
