Whew im finally back into the flow of lifting weights and it feels great, football season is over, had my week off over thanksgiving to rest and now its time for me to stop being a big useless body mass and feeling like a vegetable so ive started back.

my first workout yesterday was a leg workout, man it felt great. it had me seeing spots and walking funny and sore all day today. i love being sore....

as of now nothing really heavy, just more reps or few resp and lots of sets just to get me ready to go by the begining of the year to really start going heavy.

well i went to have another chest workout today but i really couldnt because my chest felt as if were about to rip off of my sternum be cause it was so sore, so i did some light stuff and a curl jockey workout

yeah thanx, im regaing my strenght pretty rapidly and im hoping to have certain totals buy the time our offseason begins in the middle of january.

whoa, two days of studying and no weights on monday and tuesday, and the trip home with no reall good nutrition today really killed my leg wrkout.

Damn, you're pretty strong. Is there any reason you do the GM's before squats? I can't imagine trying to squat after killing my back on Goodmornings. I usually use them as an accessory exercise. Keep up the good work bro, looking real good.

DarkSmurff- i really do hope ill be there and hopefully if i keep going at this rate i see myself ahead of where i ended last year

hercule- when you do GM's properly they in a since warm up your lower back, hams and glutes. so when i dive into the squats i have to do onlyone warmup sets and i can dive right into the heavy stuff.

doing gms first is also a westside barbell principle that i have adapted into my routine.

rpffly- i play D3 football at trinity university. im an offensive lineman and i can play all three position center, guard, and i played tackle all of this past season.

hmm couldnt really do to much of anything this morning because i spent most of my time training my mom and dad showing them the intricucies and luxries of squats and deadlifts so i was only abel to do a litte few back exercises

I have never really seen the Westsiders use GM's as a warmup, i've only seen them use them for ME exercise or accessory work. I guess when you do them depends on your goal. I tend to use them as a killer back exercise, to finish off leg/lower back day. Nice rows. Merry Christmas.

a california press is like a hybrid exercise. its a cross between a close grip bench and a skull crusher

lower the weight by bending the arms down and back the bar should stop around throat level then extend bak up. its kinda weird to explain you gotta see it.

i saw it in a book not to long ago and i use it from time to time.

ive found my weakness to work on this offseason. ima use wednesdays as a day to train and annihilate my upper back and im putting conventional deads on my 2nd leg day of the week on thursday.

so from now on every wednesday will be full of rowing, chining, pulldown and shruging. i have to get my upper back strength along with my biceps to equal strength with my chest and triceps

basically here is my goal at the end of this offseason.

1 i want to be able to do as many pullups as i can dips

2 barbell row the same weight that i can bench press

3 do military presses with 225 for reps of at least 5

4 curl 135 for at least 5 reps

ima keep my other body parts strong and work them equally but ima focus on bringing up my upper back, biceps and shoulders


anyways here is todays workout

ima lower the resistance 10 pounds each week.

yeah my goal is to ultimately replace pull downs with pull ups, and i figure once i do that i can truly begin to call myself strong, because ill have it in all aspects of body strength plus it will help up my bench and squat poundages.


im happy with my lower bck strength, its just my upper im really focusing on.

i actually hurt my shoulder doing the snatch yesterday.

they tell us to keep the weight light and i had 135 and my coach was telling me
"!!EXPLODE!!" and i almost threw the weight backwards over my head and in an attempt not to kil the person behind me i stopped it and it kinda pulled and tweaked my shoulder, its just feels like a small strain or slight pull, luckily we have good trainer so i can get it healed quickly.

its a machine specifically designed for football. we stand on the groud and we have these handles. its like the hammer strength press but you dont sit down, you stand in a hitting osition and explode through the weight like your delivering a punch with the hands while playing football, extremly grueling

hmm i cant win for losing this past week. i tweaked my back abit doing squats nothing major but it bothered me after my last sets of SLDL so i just called it quits, and ima rest and recouperate it for thursday when i have to do box squats.

luckily my squat poundages are still going up from week to week

315x10(this was the set i did it on, i wasnt wearing a belt and usually dont and on like the 8th rep i felt a weird twinge, but luckily i know how to use a belt to alleviate back pain)

405x8 felt real good

425x8 felt good and stronger than last week

455x8 was heavy but it felt great and i powered through all the reps

results of maxing out these past two days


Squat im pissed, i only got 550 and i could have gotten 600 but i just didnt have enough speed out of the hole


power clean, haven tcleansed in over three weeks, and i still managed to go up 15 pounds i went from 260 to 275

incline, with a trained pecs, i still managed an increas of 10 pounds in two weeks, i went from 315 to 325,

after not benhcing for 2 and a half weeks, due to a pec strain, i still gained 5 pounds and went from 365 to 370, now i have 7 solid weeks of working out to improve for our next max out period. i plan to make huge gains and do serious damage on the field next year..

AHHHH son of a Bitch!!1, i hate missing workouts, especially for no reason, my mom said my gradmother was coming by to see me so i waited an waited and waited, and guess what she neve showed, but coincidentally she called and changed her mind and was coming on friday, so i missed my ever important leg day.

damn u grandma!!!...lol just kiding

but yesterday i did have bad withdrawl symptoms, i felt small and weak , i think i have a problem.

but i did get some running in tho which was good, i ran 8 100 meter striders at about 75-80% and jogged a total of 4 laps so at least i got something done yesterday

jammer is a piece of equipment designed by the hammer strength company especially for football players.


there are handles on it sort of like a hammer strength bench, but without the bench to sit on. you have to stand in a hitting position then explode into an extended position as if you were hitting and unloading on a person.


very sport specific piece of equipment...

damnnit i twaeked my hammy today running and my trainer told me to stay off legs for today, ima keep treating it and ima give it a go on thursday, just mainly box squats and if possible light deadlifts....

but on a good note i had a pretty good running session, felt good and strong until i ran my last sprint and felt my hammy pop, but it should be alright

my workout yesterday wasnt much a do about nothing. I couldnt bench because my pec is still strained slightly i tried to but to no avail my power is ther it just hurts to bench when it gets over 225

well we had to do our end of the year testing, and lets just say my results were somewhat disappointing for me.

therefore im never doing our schools workout program because it didnt work for me at all like i expected, so for this summer (and next offseason) im going back to my mixture of westide and max-ot

heres my results

squat 585 (should have had 600 but i was just to upset so i said **** it)

incline- could have had 350 easy, but my pec strained again on a measy 315 which i just blasted up

bench couldnt do because of the pec injury but i felt i could have got 400 i know easily

power clean- dont really care about this lift but i still managed 275

yeah im a little dissapointed in this bull****.

last year on my routine my totals went like this

squat 455-585 this year 520-585

bench 315-385 this year 350-injured(but i believed could have been 400)

incline 275-325 this year 315-injured(could have got 350)

power clean- 250-275 this year 260 275

so screw this **** next year im doing back to what i know works best for me so i can really blast some totals.....

That sucks about the pec straining. Your maxes are nothing short of amazing though. A 275 clean is huge, even if you don't care about it.

yeah thanx,

i def have to get my pec together and heal for summer so i can really hit it hard in the summer and make the most out of it.

i could easily clean over 300 pounds but my form suck so oh well, plus i believe it is an overrated lift anyways.

good lift, yet overrated. i personalyl i can develop a great amount of leg explosion by using dynamic squats

ok i think i have officially lost my mind and went crazy. i havent been able to get a workout in or get to the gym in about 2 weeks, in fact ive only worked out once in about 3 weeks so tonight i just couldnt take it any more i went in my room and did pushups.

alot of slow controlled pushups..

got a nice pump actually....

military push ups (regular)

decline pushups (feet elevated)

wide grip push ups
3 sets of 15

then i rested 30 mins and did that same thing again..

The biggest thing that will help you make it in the next level is confidence. Now being confident and being cocky are basically the same except when your confident you dont talk about it, you just know it. when you line up across from anyone may it be the worst player on the team or the first team all american first round draft pick have in your mind set that you will kick there ass or at least give your best effort at it.


when you have guys come in talking ****, this pisses off the older guys and they wil make an effort to teach you a lesson in humility.

trust me walking the walk will get you more respect than talking the talk...

Hammer strnegth machines for the chest felt pretty good, first time for me to use them in over a year, i may start adding them to my arsenal, they allow me to fully fatigue my pecs without the danger of a barbell or dumbell falling on me and caving my chest in, but no way in hell am i abandoning the free wieghts...

i skipped last nights leg workout because of the playofs, big mistake, the t-wolves disappointed me i shoulda went and did my deadlifting but no use in crying over spilled milk....


well its friday night, i spent most of my day riding all around the city, and night time came then i realized i had no money and almost no gas, so i had myself a nice lil short powerful upperbody workout....

nope no suit. im alot stronger at conventional deadlifitng than sumo. about two weeks back i deadlifted conventional style for the first time in about a year and went heavy and still managed to pull 525 fairly easy. im trying to get my sumo deadlift way up also. i think it is just a biomechanic reason its like i have short arms and long legs, so i have to squat very low to grab the bar, its just a weird exercie for me, but i enjoy doing it and in trying to get my strength to go way up in it


as far as the squat go i just have strong glutes hips quads and hams, that whole area on me is pretty massive and solid(33inch thighs), seems as if it should translate into a big sumo dead but i guess not, actually i was surprised that i pulled that much.

also when i deadlift, i dont use a belt but i use one when i squat. when eve ri use a belt for deads it seems as if i cant get low enough and if feels like im bout to pop a hernia so i choose not to.

as far as the quad it felt better today but it is still pretty much hurt like a bitch, ima wait till the weekend to decided if it is serious enough to go have a doctor look at it, until then ill continue to doctor on it myself, with the stretching, icing, bike riding, whirlpooling, deeply tissue massaging, and more icing and stretching and see what happens with it. last night i thought i may be slightly torn now i just believe that it is just strained pretty badly, i can walk ok but when ever i squat down to sit or get out of a chair i feel it.

so im outta commision on the legs for a while..

then i worked my abs for about 30 mins doing

got in the whirlpool for my back and muscles, and i feel so much better im alot looser all over

Fine push day dude...I like the way you take care of the chest, shoulders and tri's in one fell swoop and get it over with. You always do great and complete sessions but where are the shrugs for direct trap work??

you know what, i usually dont do shrugs because my trap always kinda just stay big, dont know how but ive never really had to work them much, bu i need to start doing so consistently. its just around the time im done with my back workout, my grip is so shot i cant imagine holding a huge amount of weight for that long a period of time, but i do need to start doing them alot more

Bad ass back workout tonight, everything i put my hands on i pulled well, felt like if i had cables strong enough i could have pulled a house down tonights

my workout started early today

jumped rope for about 20 mins and got in about 1000 jumps in sets of 50

rode the elliptical for 30 mins at level 15 went 3.5 miles and burned 650 calories

the volume of this workout was so much because i combined two workouts into one, it was a back and a chest workout , so it ended up being a total upperbody workout, which lasted about 2 and 1/2 hours.

my leg workouts last about 2 hours

my upper body workouts last about 1 to 1.5 hours

my chest was still a bit sore from sunday's workout which i forgot i did i tried to push it bu i could, felt a slight strain in my pec but lucilky i stopped before it got worse

did more running than anything

jump rope session of 1000 jumps

jogged 2 miles

did a few sets of bench but nothing worth recording
did one set of 300 for 4 but then i stopped because of my pec

did 5 sets of leg press for calves and that was it.

ima just wait until friday for my next schedule chest workout

i think a water pipe in the gym busted because after my last set of squats water started to leak out of the bottom of the wall and left a huge puddle all over that one side of the gym it was almost like a mini flood, since it was all over the squat rack area and the platform i couldnt go my Good Mornings and SLDL

i really just eat what ever i want but i do make sure i get good quality meals and i try to skip on junk food like chips and **** but i occasionally eat them


my diet mainly consist of tons of meat and complex carbs like potatoes, rice, and wheat bread and such,also i try to get some good greens from time to time ill enjoy a salad but my fav is fresh uncanned spinach cause all that protein with no greens can make for interesting trips to the john...lol

but i really dont keep a close tab on my diet

ha in fact my last meal consisted of about a hand full of rice and about a little over a pound of beef patties smothered in diced tomatoes, pretty good actually, thanx ma...lol


earlier today i ate 5 pieces of chicken, and after i worked out earlier today i had a chopped beef sandwhich and a huge glass of milk

i also drink a lot of milk, like a gallon eevry 4 days


my vices are beer, whiskey, run and juices and soda and such

i dip also they say it cuts appetite but does nothing for mine

Did 20 mins of some intense stuff on the elliptical. rode for 20 mins and every 5th min i took the resistance up to full pumped as fast as i could for a minute, i did this 5 times in the course of 20 mins, talk about some tireing ****, it was brutal i had to cathc my breath for about 10 mins afterwards.

Impressive as usual. I could never understand how you can do so much volume. You must have to eat a ****load to make up for the hard work. I would definitely pass out from all those sets.
