Heh. Figured it's a new year, time yet again, to get back in my groove.

So here's the plan that i've been tentaviely forming:

Weekends:

2-day Push/Pull (god i love that routine)

I figure since i'm not working on weekends anymore, I can go to the gym back to back.

Weekdays:

I'm tentatively saying that I will hit Spin class 4 times a week - however - I can't be for certain on that, since I have some other evening commitments. So i will say I will hit spin at least twice a week.

I will be starting as of this weekend. It's about time I got my ass in gear huh?

oh - i've also got to get batteries for my scale, and find my tape measure.

it's time i got back into keeping accurate stats.

I'm still figuring out diet. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to manage that this year, but when i've sorted it, I will let y'all know.

Wish me luck!

Oh and Happy New Year to y'all! :)

Tryska
01-03-2004, 01:37 PM
well hey brian! thanks for the spam! :D

so it's been a 4 month layoff, roughly and my main concern was how much strangth i've lost. it's not too bad actually, maybe 20lbs ont he big stuff and 10lbs on the smaller movements.

Squats - 45x10w/u; 95x10; 135x8

Pec Deck - 45x10x2
HS Shoulder Press - 40x6x2

tomorrow is pull.

k - i'm off to eat a steak with some broccoli casserole.

thank you justin!

just for the record - i slept like ****e last night. it was freakin 66 degrees outside, and 75 inside the house. we haven't had to turn the heat on yet thios month, since our neighbors were keeping us warm with their ambient heat. so we didn't want to turn the ac on, because we wanted ot see what a really low electric bill looks like.

in any case, i was so hot last night all i did was toss and turn in a pool of sweat. not a happy camper today.

oh and i'm sore as all get out too.

That's funny, I was just now listening to Rapper's Delight with Grandmaster Flash.

So Tryska, are you going to post another workout? lol

Tryska
01-06-2004, 07:38 AM
i'm not training again til the weekend.

after climbing downstairs, walking down the block, climbing up stairs, climbing down stairs walking down the block and climbing back up the stairs yesterday, i was through. my low back on the left-hand side spasmed for the rest of the afternoon. i knew i was in no condition to do cardio yesterday, so i came home, ate a piece of fruit, and crawled into bed around 8pm. woke up an hour late this morning, but on the upside i'm feeling much more limber. cardio is on for tonight. i've also gotta see my new chiropractor, so i might not make it to ride class - if not, then it will be intervals on the elliptical.

ElPietro
01-06-2004, 07:44 AM
Wow, I never thought you'd average a full workout per page in a journal you slacker. Get that ass in gear, or I will be forced to...um...discipline it.

Tryska
01-06-2004, 07:46 AM
hmmm.

*ponders lps suggestion*

Tryska
01-07-2004, 07:52 AM
so i did 30 minutes on the elliptical yesterday - intervals split up by 90second increments.

also got adjusted just prior to going. it went well, but i was dying by the end, because my low-back was spamsing. feel pretty good today tho.

diet yesterday:

m1 - peanuts and coffee
m2 - blueberry donut
m3 - chicken wings, celery and blue cheese
m4 - oats with 1 scoop banana micell milk and 1 tbsp peanut butter

rope pulldowns - dropset 40x15x30x10x20x10

Tryska
01-26-2004, 08:03 AM
so i know it looks like i fell off the training wagon, but i haven't. last weekend i had way too much really important stuff going on, and couldn't get to the gym, during the hours they were open. i kinda wish i had tho, because thi weekend i was under the weather, and didn't get a chance to go either.

on the bright side, i have been doing cardio fairly regularly since i've been missing the weight training. hopefully by this weekend i will be back on the wagon.

*lol* missus y2a was soooo last week. i had to change my outfit.

we're still married tho, and don't you forget it, buster. tuttut

brian - spin is a 45-60 minute class that takes place on stationary bikes. it uses various tempos and resistance levels, so part of it is HIIT-style, part of is endurance training, and part of it, is jsut plain-old calorie burning cardio. i think it's a great class.

Sounds like you may have gotten a bacterial infection on top of your viral illness. If you are coughing thick green/yellow stuff up, see a doc to determine if a course of antibiotics is appropriate.

ya think so cromm? i'll have to look at what i cough up. the chest congestion just started late yesterday afternoon. my nose goo is all pretty clear, except for 2 days ago i sneezed blood and that scared the bejesus out of me.

i'm taking goldenseal right now. and that definitely helped me start to feel better last night. except my ear tubes are still swollen. i'm taking alavert 12-hour at the moment - i'm hoping the antihistamine will help some.

pizdoff - thanks! i think i'm better as far as thge flu stuff goes, but i am sooo tired lately. like don't want to move tired. oh well - i've got an endo appointment next week so i will talk to him about it.

well i'd like to say i feel vindicated in knowing something was wrong with me - i haven't just been lazy all this time. Went to my endo yesterday, and he has changed my medication. I now get a little T-3 with my T-4. woohoo! I have to admit i start dosing last night, and today i'm feeling a little more like i felt when i was at my height of wellness - hopefully within the next week or so, i will be feeling much much more like my former active self.

gah! THINGS JSUT KEEP GETTING WORSE! friday night i developed some sort of inner ear imbalance. that means every time i move my head i almost black out and keel over, because the room starts spinning. Think of that feeling when you're really drunk just before you puke.

this is pissing me off, because it seems every couple weeks it's something new - i have had a sh*tty weekend every week for the last month and a half. :(

ElPietro
03-08-2004, 08:08 AM
Do you actually go to see doctors or specialists ever? I only ask as it seems you always try to do it your way with all these herbal remedies, but perhaps someone with the proper training could have helped you by now. You've been sick for what seems months now, so if you haven't maybe it's a good idea that you did.

Tryska
03-08-2004, 09:07 AM
well i went to the doctor when my congestion went away and my ears were still plugged and they gave me some antibiotics, and then i was at my endo again last week, and he changed my thyroid meds, (my t-levels definitely ahve been contributing to the way i feel, and maybe have caused some immunosuppression) and i've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow about this inner ear thing.

so don't worry about me pumpkin - i try the traditional stuff first, but if it doesn't seem to be working i do actually visit real doctors. :)

Tryska

isn't that annoying.

well there's a big bruhaha boiling over over here.

kb - it was in fact spring-like here all last week - and i think that's where hte problem might have started - we turned the a/c on, and within a couple days i had this inner ear imbalance thing, and my roomamte had full on upper respiratory and an earache. the last time i had this imbalance hting it was due to ragweed (a fall pollen). So it's one of those allergic reactions for me. My roommate has a mold allergy. Either way, we think the A/C is suspect. When i mentioned this to my Mom she wigged out, because apparently in Florida, Mold is a huge deal, especially inside buildings (my mom's a broker) well she emailed one of her broker friends up here in georgia, and the breoker friend got in touch with an HVAC specialist, and the HVAC specialist sent us a sample letter stating that the apartment complex has to send a certified HVAC guy to clean the ducts, coils, filters etc.

In the meantime we turned the A/C off on Sunday and left the windows open and i am feeling a little bit better day by day. We'll see this afternoon if in fact it's an allergic reaction or if it's an ear infection gone wild. I'm tending towards allergy now, as i get a bit better everyday since onset, as opposed to worse.

Man let me tell ya tho - trying to maintain equilibrium can be draining. I've got this huge respect for the human body now. You don't notice all the little stuff that's involved in keeping you standing up until it stops working the way it's supposed to.

Kayak_boy

We're into Autumn here, it was 39 degrees C yesterday... and humid as all hell.... yuck.

:hello: justin!

well guess who trained today. that's right - me! i've been experiencing some serious muscle weakness for the last couple of weeks - i'm not sure if it's due to my med change, or to my thyroid itself, but i'm playing it by ear. I trained really light, because a. i haven't rained in a while, b. i don't want to use up all my reserve energy, and c. i wasn't sure just how weak my muscles were. I pretty well tired myself out tho, and all sets were to failure. it's not looking good -

anyways..here goes:

Push:
Lunges - 45x10 (had to do them in the rack, since there was a class in the room i normally do walking lunges in.)
Squats - 95x10x2 (i used the lunges as a warmup - down by 40lb)
Chest Press - 40x10x2 (down by 25lb)
Flyes - 45x10x2 (on pec dec - down by 14lb)
OHP - 20x8x2 (down by 20lb)
Dip Machine - 45x10; 52.5x8 (up by 7lb)
Abs 25x4

tomorrow will be pull. I'm kinda tired now, but not really beat.

ooh strangeness in my gym - i saw a sort of unisex character - at first i thought it was a woman with some unfortunate hormonal imbalance, then i realized it might be a man doing the pre-op thing. he/she had short hait in a ponytail, a very manly face, earings, and umm.. a sports bra and spandex shorts on. they looked very much like a german shot-putter. i didn't think to look for an adams apple.

ogarchamplin
03-20-2004, 11:32 AM

Tryska
03-21-2004, 11:10 AM
thanks ogar! i woke up this morning exhausted, but by the time i had my coffee smoothie i was feeling like i just might be able to pull through with a pull session, if i dropped deads. i didn't really wanna drop them, but i think squats and deads back to back really does a number on my energy levels - just too much recovery required. next week i'll do deads instead, and drop squats. god-willin' and the creek don't rise, anyways.

Pull:

SLDL - 45x10w/u; 65x10x2 (no change)
HS Iso Pulldown - 50x10; 60x10 (no change)
HS Iso Row - 60x10x2 (down 5lb)
Shrugs - 65x10x2 (down 20lbs)
Curls - 15x8x2 (no change)
Calves - 215x20x2 (no change)

so far seems either i'm stronger today, or stronger on the back half of my body. *lol*

03-22-2004, 07:36 AM
the trick is to find a way to party and train at the same time

it gets harder as you get older though

ElPietro
03-22-2004, 07:36 AM
I always find that I get a huge boost of energy if I haven't trained in a while and make it in. Getting over the initial hump is always the hardest part.

Tryska
03-22-2004, 07:37 AM
yeah i know, cal. the thing is - i've got my training scheduled for weekends, as that's when i'm most well-rested and able to focus. maybe if i don't drink i'll be cool. we'll see.

Tryska
03-22-2004, 07:40 AM
lp - this is true - the thing with me tho, is that i can go gangbusters for about 2 weeks, and then i'm exhausted or start falling sick. basically overtraining. I was ove ron a thyroid board and this came up...apparently it happens to other people too - thye start out working out regularly for 2 weeks, and th4en it's like 2 months before they get back int he gym again.

so i guess my challenge is to be able to do enough so that i get some benefit out of it, without doing so much that i overtrain, and impact my energy levels and immune system.

of course this goes against my belief in intensity. Do y'all have any ideas?

ElPietro
03-22-2004, 07:58 AM
I would have said build up your capacity to work slowly, but you aren't doing a high volume routine anyway. Perhaps a push pull split isn't for you. Maybe it's working too many muscle groups at once, and there is too much strain at one time.

If you break up your workouts a bit more, and do a more conventional split, like chest/tris, back/bis, legs you'll spread out the strain a bit more, and not have too many things competing for recovery at the same time?

I don't really know, but that could be something to try if you can devote another day to it.

Other than that, all I can think of is that the recovering is making you deficient in something, and if you can find out what that is and supplement it further to offset this, you may be able to keep up the intensity over time.

Relentless
03-22-2004, 07:58 AM
try training with lower intensity?

intensity isn't required for growth IMHO... just progression

Tryska
03-22-2004, 08:09 AM
what do you mean by lower intensity cal?

and lp - yeah - i've been thinking about that too. I've raised my reps more to the 8-10 rep range now, and i'm staying away from the lower ranges for a bit. and also, i'm alternating deads and squats. so i have dropped the intensity a little bit for now. it's intriguing about something that i may need to supplement in order to aid recovery. i'll have to pay close attention.

Relentless
03-22-2004, 08:21 AM
I mean don't train to failure, keep an eye on your energy levels, and train more often, with shorter duration workouts and fewer total sets -- split things up like ElP suggests.

By reducing the total impact of a single workout on your system, maybe you can find the point at which you can workout without toasting your immune system... keep the workouts subthreshold while progressing in them?

Tryska
03-22-2004, 08:32 AM
okay cool. i just wanted to clarify what you meant.

I will definitely consider not training to failure. I won't be able to split up my training more than it is now, simply because of the logisitcs of working in the hell hole that is downtown atlanta.....i think also with the cardio, i'm gonna keep it light not 1 hr ride classes every night.

i think with the cardio, i can still do 20 minute HIIT sessions, and do it twice a week. i keep the intervals fairly long.

i'm back on it, come saturday.

no lp - i'm saying ask your mom to clean your room, cuz having sex and making you a sandwich on top of cleaning your room just isn't gonna do it for me.

Now SF on the other hand. He knows how to negotiate...

well that really depends on whether i'm giving or receiving the whipping i guess.
