View Full Version : To bulk or not to bulk

Hi, I was just wondering if I should bulk or cut. I used to be very overweight but then I lost alot of fat and gained muscle. Anyways I have been bulking for the last couple of months and I have only gained like 5 pounds so I am now going to either cut up or really increase my calories and bulk up big time. So my question is what would you do if you were 16, 157-158 pounds, 5foot 9inches, and 13-15% bodyfat?

That's a tough one ... personally, I would try to reduce my body fat to about 10% (lose roughly 4-5lbs of fat only) and then start a bulk. It should only take a month to lose the 5lbs of fat, and then you have at least 3 good months of bulking before summer. :)

Depend's which way you want to go... you can only decide that one.

I was 5'8 160 and 15% when I first started lifting. I bulked up to 190 and I had gained a good amount of LBM, but my body fat went up to 19%. I spent the next 6 mos cutting to get my body fat to a more reasonable level.
If you want to bulk now, go for it. Prepare yourself for one hell of a cut afterwards though.

If I were in your position, with everything I've learned about lifting, I'd bulk. But *carefully*! Gain a half a pound a week if you can. My first bulk sucked because I gained weight too fast and didn't push myself hard enough. As a result, I didn't gain a whole lot of muscle before I went over 20% bodyfat.
So go slowly. Good luck! :D
