how much sleep does everyone usually get here? Sometimes I have interrupted sleep (for example: waking up at around 4am then falling back sleep). I'd say on average I get 7 or 6 hours a night. Is this adversely effecting muscle growth?? Most of the time I wake up groggy and tired as hell. I usually take a nap when I get home from work. I usually get to bed around 12midnight and wake up at 7:15am. Anyone have any opinions???
Thanks

"How much sleep is enough" is a very difficult question to answer. Everybody is different, and requires a different amount of sleep for their body to fully recover. Some people only need 4-5 hours sleep to fully recover, the most likely reason for this being that it is "quality" sleep (REM sleep), where as other people need 8.
I personally get, on avarage, around 8 hours sleep.

I need 8 hours to feel refreshed. But I rarely get that much sleep. I bought one of those white noise nature machine things today LOL. Should i start going into work later so I can sleep more? Is this going to effect my gains by a lot???. FCKING PISSED!

I've heard stories of a lot of people here making huge gains on minimal sleep (3-5 hours). I wouldn't worry about it that much.
aka23 doesnt get 8 hours of sleep usually and he does ok :)

During the summer time (June-August) I get about 4-5 hours during the week and about 6-7 on the weekend (if I'm lucky). I still made pretty good gains. I made sure I ate properly. I think that was the key for me.

I've read that supposedly 90% of the population "needs" at least 8 hours of sleep, but only 5% or so needs more than 9 hours and only 5%needs less than 8. I don't know how true that is, but I know how poorly I can function on less than 6 hours.

what percentage NEEDS 10 hours? i think i was a sloth in my other lives.
personally, i think those people who exist on minimal sleep have forced this adjustment on their bodies. they survive, they function, they even make gains in the gym, but it isn't optimal for any BODY to work at optimal levels without appropriate rest and recovery. i am curious to know, for those people who consistently get less than 7 hours a night, how often you get sick, feel run-down or deal with lethargy or brainfog??

I personally find that waking up naturally (rather than by an alarm or construction works happening right outside your window) has a lot to do with it. I always aim for at least 8 hours of sleep but I'd happily take less if my REM sleep wasn't interrupted. Coincidentally I've been having trouble falling asleep which means regardless of my good intentions when trying to get an early night I always miss out on sleep by having to get up early in the morning.

I normally sleep maybe 7.5-8 hours.
I purposely set my alarm "early" to get my day going. And meals in.
I only have afternoon classes, save one day, but I like to wake "early."
After a night drinking I still only sleep 7.5 hours, kinda annoying while everyone wakes up late afternoon.
"well i got about 11 hours sleep last night, but still feel crap"
Overslept dude...try cutting down to 7-9.
Talking about last night, I had a coupla drinks last night, then stopped drinking about 12 am, but was up for 6 hours after that. Really amplified the post-alcohol effect and has hit me harder than normal.

The most I ever get during the week is 6 hours, but generally it's closer to 4 or 5. I only usually feel tired when there is a change in my sleeping pattern. I think that is more important that the total hours. I have a friend that actually works in a sleep research area of a hospital, maybe I'll ask him next time I see him. I've always felt that sleeping patterns are the most important, at least on how I feel when I wake up anyway.
Usually I feel my most lethargic when I sleep in on a sunday or something like that.

6-8 hours during the week and 10-12 hours on the weekends.
