I have read many disscussions about good and bad fats. Could someone shed a little light on the good and bad fats (saturated, mono/polyunsaturated, trans, etc.) and what foods should be consumed or avoided

Good fats = unsaturated
Bad fats = saturated, trans (aka hydrogenated)
That's it in a nutshell (no pun intended)
Some amount of saturated fat is unavoidable but it should be no more than 10% of your total fat intake.
WRT unsaturated fats, most people get enough Omega 6 and Omega 9 and not enough Omega 3.
Foods with Omega 3 are cold water fish, flax, and some nuts.
