I was just at my local supplement store (not GNC - FYI)... and I was talking to the guy behind the counter discussing replenishing glycogen stores post workout. I told him that I have a bagel and a protein shake after my workout. He basically exploded - telling me that a bagel was a HORRIBLE source of carbs because they would be broken down so much slower than the protein shake. He told me that I should be taking some kind of liquid carb (conveniently pointed one out in the store called CYTOMAX).
I've done some looking around in the archives and it looks like everybody agrees that dextrose is the best source of carbs after a workout.
My questions:
- Is my bagel and protein shake ok after a workout? Should I be eating something else?
- Is there a proper amount of carbs and protein after a workout - with a bagel and a protein shake it works out to ~50g carbs and 25g protein (whey).
- Should this guy be bitch-smacked? :bash:
