I am 19 years old and overweight. I am about 6 foot tall and right around 350 pounds. I have been lifting weight 3 times a week for the past 5 weeks. I have noticed gains in stength but i cant see any weight loss. I have cut my diet back to like 2 salads a day and a baked chicken wrap thing. I have some whey protein. I dont know what to do. I really want to gain alot of strenght but i also want to lose fat. PLEASE give me some suggestions. I figured now is as good of a time as any to get my life in order.

Post exactly what you are eating each day so we can get an idea of the calories you are taking in. If you don't eat enough you won't burn fat either. There is a happy medium. Search the boards for whatever questions you have, I am sure you will find an answer to any diet/excersize questions you have. If you don't then just ask.

I'd be an invalid if I ate that little.

So you are saying to step it up alittle? I am really looking to lose alot of weight. I think 250 would be the perfect weight for my height and build. Maybe toss in a side salad with that wrap at dinner. And instead of the turkey on the salad at lunch put it on some good wheat bread? Maybe a slice of wheat bread with low fat peanut butter to go with the gagging down of protein shake at 8 in the morn.

How much cardio are you doing each day?

I think you can safely double or triple what you eat in your day and still lose weight....

You need to eat so much more if you want optimal fat loss.

I'm 175lbs and I'm losing weight on about triple what you're eating.

yeah but wouldn't that have to do with your size and your metabolism rate? I am thinking he isn't getting enough protein and I see no sign of EFA's at all. The best thing I can recommend for you to do is to sit down at your computer and start looking for good information on healthy eating. Also looking into stepping things up a bit. You see walking is a activity as you are in movement but it doesn't not require much work from the body which is why you can do so much of it. Things you might want to watch out for though during exercise is EIH (Exercise induced headache) loss in blood sugar you will start to feel real tired then you will feel like fainting. If you start to feel any of those stop for the day. I used to work at this personal training studio in Va, Here is some of the things we recommended for people.

first thing look to increase your activity level play more sports take up active hobbies

second I also recommend that if you are truly serious talk to a doctor and get some base information so you have something to work with plus they will be able to recommend things we can't because they will know your situation a lot better then us. However the guys here are great at what they do so maybe its just about give them more info about yourself we are talking a lot of detail.

third If you do not know much about healthy eating looking into a diet plan that focuses on well rounded meals try to stay away from extreme diets like Adkins and things of that nature. A good one is the Zone by Dr. Sears

fourth read, read, read, and read some more on nutrition. The better you know it yourself the better you will be able to fallow it.

Good luck with your goals and I commend you on your choice to get into shape!!

Cool, thanx for the advice. It was rough getting to the gym at first.......there is such a mental barrier to overcome after years of being lazy. It all pays off when i get out of the gym and feel 1000x's better about myself. Its cool feeling stronger and more confident. Started off at such low weights i felt like a fool. Started doing 4 sets of 10 at 95 on the bench and in 5 weeks im up to 4 sets of 10 at 145.

I keep seeing that ad for creatine at the top of the page.....whats the low down on that? If i were to buy that would it be ok to put it in my protein shake? Im such a noob at this stuff. Or would that hinder my fat lose process.

Creatine may make u gain about 5 pounds of water, but it would go away in a couple of days after you stop taking it.

I''ll answer two questions here..

First, you are not eating a lot.. so make sure your not losing more then 1.5 lbs a week.. anymore then that and its likely to be muscle.. which is what you do NOT want.

Secondly, creatine is perfectly fine to use on a cut, you will gain some pounds of water weight as was already said, but it will maybe help you retain a little more muscle since you can lift some heavier weights.

I think it'll take a little bit more than a couple days.

Folks that are overweight can actually lose more than that, while still preserving and even gaining LBM.

I was unaware he was really overweight, but yes. If this is the case then its fair game to lose more then that each week, but as you get down a little lower i sugest you slow the weight loss down and maybe take a week off from cutting every 7-8 weeks, just to reset your body.

Thanks for pointing that out astro.
