How much water is too much?

On Oprah last week, she had a show about Raves and Excstacy(sp). The had a doctor on there that said you can 'poison' yourself by drinking too much water. I don't remember the science behind it; but I know he mentioned about flushing out all the electrolytes, etc.

Anyone have any ideas?

Why were you watching Oprah?

Ecstasy

I have heard that you can drink too much water, but that's a ways past a few gallons, I believe.

Im pretty sure that electrolytes get disloved into water so the more water you have the more diliuted they get. You need electroyilets to live so if you drank like 10 gallons of water you would wash all the electro's out causeing you to die. I know that with low levels of electros you can/will die.

That's cuz those exstacy fags weigh like 100 lbs, and going out in the wind would kill them. LOL

I think the true answer to your question, is not to worry about water, but to not do ecstacy!. :D

Oh, I'm not planning on it. Don't feel like being brain dead by the age of 21.

a couple of people in the uk died form drinking to much water on exstacy.
The mechanism of death is the same as not tkaing excasty. its just that exctasy interfere with how hydrated you feel (along with the dancing).
there are about 5 deaths from this in the Uk a year.

Oprah is anti everything except her book club.

I would not worry about the water thing too much.

k...today i'm in the mood to give a detailed answer although people have given bits and pieces of the story already so far.

as body said, x throws of your body's sensation of body temp, so it's quite easy to get overheated, without realizing it. To combat this ravers are encouraged to drink as much water as possible to keep themselves hydrated while dancing. Which is why there are cooldown rooms. Problem with this is if you drink too much water, or too much watter in too short a time period, you wind up throwing off cellular electrolyte balance, and literally wind up drowning int he water. It's called Hyponatremia, and you are in a world of **** if this happens, unless someone happens to have a sodium/potassium drip on hand. which might not be a bad idea in the cooldown rooms now that i think about it.

No no no, there is something to do with Ecstacy that makes it where if you drink too much water you have a very adverse reaction... it has nothing to do with normal everyday people. It really doesn't have to do with people that use ecstacy either, only while they are under the influence of it.

It makes you 'thirsty' and people drink themselves to death.

LOL at 'can.

It woudol be very difficult to drink enough water to hurt yourself, but yes, it can happen.

I don't do E, and don't rave, so I wouldn't know about that.

Best be careful when you're on E. I had a friend who was at a rave and was rolling. He ended up giving some kid(guy) a hand massage all night long. LOL.

I never thoght I would be so completely out of touch with what kids are doing, but I TOTALLY don't get the whole rave thing.

Mosh pits, on the other hand, I completely understand.

ha ha...it's okay paul..nobody actually raves anymore anyways *lol*. It could be worse then not understanding what kids today are doing? you know last night I was fiending for disco music? the sad thing i'm too young to remember that whole disco scene.....my mom was into it though. (not the scene, cuz she was married already, but the music)

Don't let him fool you; he loves giving his friends hand massages. I think the only reason he dates me is because I have strong, manly hands...
