today was the frist time that i ate oatmeal plain without milk and tons of sugar and my God it was hard to choke down. I think i will go back to eggs every morning. Any suggestions on how to spruce it up? is Splenda allright?

Splenda should be ok. I don't like oatmeal on its own, I gag because its just too plain. I like it with banana though.

1. Add vanilla protein powder
2. Eat it raw, washing it down with water
3. Add berries and a splash of milk

Oatmeal isn't that bad, geez.

Try boiling milk and mixing it with that instead of water. It tastes much better and adds more calories and protien to your breakfast.

I eat it cooked, raw, mixed w/ tuna, cottage cheese, or yogurt. Another thing i like is to add FF cheese to it after it's cooked and then put hot sauce on it. You could also mix your eggs with it after it's cooked and put salsa/hot sauce on it. Works good adding protein powder as well. Oatmeal is versatile...there has to be a way that you will like it...just experiment.

Hmm cooked oatmeal with whey, I need to try this. Usually I eat it plain or I mix it and make a shake with it.

i get the packs of instant quaker oats with apple cinnamon, maple and brown sugar, cinnabon, and regular.. i normally mix apple cin. and maple. and i had protein powder to it..its pretty good

all you do is put the two packs in a bowl. and the protein powder.. stir it up with just the oatmeal and protein powder in the bowl.. then add water.. put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. stir again after.. and eat it.. good for a quick morning breakfast

I cut up one mango into cubes and dump it on top of plain oatmeal (1 packet). Tastes great, and I barely notice the oatmeal. It also adds a lot of bulk as the mango is bigger than the amount of oatmeal. It's something that I look forward to in the mornings.

I have tried protein powder, but it turns the oatmeal into glue. Try sugar free maple syrup or splenda.

First, your taste buds will adjust over time if you give them the chance.

Second, you could use a bit of artificial sweetener if you like. That is what I used to do.

First things first! Get a good brand of oatmeal. If you are using something like a generic store brand or instant, it will always need a bunch of crap on it to make it taste decent.

Get a good extra thick oat or some other specialty item like steel cut oats. I personally use bobsredmill extra thick. I just buy 25 lb. bags. You can find little 2 lbs bag in most supermarkets. The cost is comparable to quaker.

Then it will taste almost totally different. Start with good (and cheap) ingredients.

does splenda or artificial sweeteners cause an insulin spike like regular table sugar would?

For my mornging I throw 1.5 cups of oats and 3 eggs some cottage cheese, and enough milk to get it the righ consiteny. In a blender then toss it in a frying pan and ya got yourself a nice big oatmeal pancake type thing. Toss on a little maple syrup and your good to go!

I have often wondered if it is advisable to eat oatmeal on its own. At the moment I microwave it with water and some milk. Eating it dry would wave me time and milk.

A lot of people eat it raw and wash it down. Unless you really care about enjoying what you eat, it's just as simple to rinse it down. I used to use Diet Snapple Peach Iced Tea to rinse mine. Man is that good!

how much can you eat raw in a sitting?
I could see maybe a spoonful or two...
but I have 2 cups for breakfast...I can't imagine chasing all that down with water..

I cant stand the texture of oatmeal but I can eat it dry or just throw it in a protein shake and drink it down.

Had 1/2 cup mixed in my shake this morning. Just have to remember to stir it up eat time before you drink. Some of it will float and some will settle on the bottom.

today I tried this for speed sake..... I cooked a cup of oakmeal with some water, then put the contents in a blender and add it whey...... I end up with some devilish type of drink which I took in my drive to work...... It was a pain to eat/drink it ... I was gagging and had to stop the car because I thought I was going to throw up .....

I think the most I've gone would be 4 ounces. Not sure how much that translates into in cups, but it's over a cup. It's really not a difficult thing to get down.

4 oz = 1/2 cup

I don't think a little bit of brown sugar and skim milk would hurt, just a very small amount, though. Cinnamon is good, too.

4 oz = 1/2 cup

Perhaps on a planet with more gravity, but here on earth...

1/2 cup on the label is 40g. There are 454g in a pound, so that's 1/11.35 of a pound or ~1.41oz. So 4oz = 2.8375 cups.

I also used my scale to weigh out 1/2 cup and it came up at 1.5oz and it rounds up.
