View Full Version : What's so special about Ammonia?

Anyone care to explain?

Ammonia caps/smelling salts are ammonium carbonate. The fumes irritate your nose and lungs (take a sniff and you'll see), and this causes you to breathe faster. I'm sure you've heard of a KOed boxer waking up after someone waves smelling salts under his nose. It also clears your head and psychs you up for the lift. I've never used them, though.

I've smelled the suff before. Just curious as to why someone would use them for lifting. Makes sense. Thanks Tone.

heh. sorry. :)

so ammonia helps you focus before a lift?

As far as I know, amonia increases the lungs absorption capacity, which is also why many use it to smoke cocaine here in Europe. In that context it will probably help increasing oxigen's absorption, which will increase awareness, focus,etc....

You get kinda immune to the pungancy of it after a while but they useful if you aren't quite 'with it' and need a little kick..... I can take damn get lugs on mine when other people cringe if they stand within 10ft of them :P

smelling ammonia just for a lift? this obviously must not be the same ammonia that everyone says don't smell because the fumes can kill you.

dblockspky, I was just wondering the same thing. Is this a "healthy" practice?

03-19-2004, 10:12 AM
Dunno, it' sold at most Onine pl stores and I've seen lots of vids where people inhale right before they lift. NFL uses them as well.

Most feds dont allow it anymore. And no it isnt healthy.
