View Full Version : How important is it for males to work the adductors ?

Hi everyone !

I'm a big fan of powerlifts, and most of my leg routines revolve around heavy lifts (squats, leg presses, modified squats, etc) but every now and then, I wonder if I should be working out my adductors (the muscle that runs on the inner thy). I notice that a lot of women @ the gym I goto seem to live on the adductor machines but hardly any guys ever get on them. All of this got me wondering, how important is it to men, that we work out our adductors ? There are specific ways you can change your footing on a leg press or a squat where it would put more pressure on the adductors, but do I even need to be worried about this ? Thanks in advance for any input on this question.

Well they're not exactly a manly excercise, I personally like them.

I don't make them a staple of my leg routine by any means, but I do them from time to time when I want some isolation work.

Also the ABductors, the reverse motion that works the outer thigh.

Women are on leg machines all the time because they think it'll tone their legs.

Not necessarily for any logical reason.

Why is this in the PL'ing forum?

becuase hes basically asking will it help in squat more.

My answer would be no in most gyms as the abductor machines are often to light.
The one in my gym i can get over 30 reps at the end of my qorkout which is not going to help to much with squating.
i use it for ju-jitsu purpose as i think it helps gives my leg endurance for staying in guard.
I do not think its helped my squat poundage at all.

Squat and that is all you will need. The good girl, bad girl machines are for marketing alone. It appeals. Does little. End of story.

Try Sumo Squat's.

Men need it about as much as women do. Meaning none.

You want to work those muscles, do walking lunges. Doing 20 reps of the stack with those things will do very little for you.

Or drag a sled while walking sideways.

I agree with the last 3 posts, you dont need to 'isolate' them but if you feel like working them you could do some sled dragging.

Squats always blast my adductors (sometimes they're more sore than my quads or glutes). Maybe my form is off?
