I am just starting out and I need to gain weight. I am currently 10 lbs. under my required weight. I have been trying for about 3 months with no results. Any suggestions on high calorie foods or meals.

Chicken, Lean Meat, Tuna, Brown Rice, Natural Peanut Butter and a bunch of other stuff I am too lazy to type up right now.

Start tracking your daily calories and macronutrient ratios.
Aim for at least 1g per lb of bodyweight in protein.
No less than 20% of your calories from fat, including some essential fatty acids (fish and/or flax oil).
Eat a certain number of calories for a week, if you don't gain weight then increase cals and try again. Keep repeating until you find a number of calories that will gain you weight at the rate you desire (1 lb per week is good).

one more question. I have stayed away from shakes so far. Do you think they would help?

It depends. Once you have worked out how much protein you are taking in, if you find you fall short of the 1g per lb goal it's a great way to make up the difference.
Not to mention the fact that you should be having one post workout.
