Hey guys i need help convincing my dad of letting me get some dextrose off the net. I would get it locally but there conveniently happens to be no brewer stores around here that i can find...i tell him about "spiking my insulin levels" and hes like that doesn't sound good (how i love ignorant parents who think they know but have no idea and won't trust the judgement of their kids) any ideas on how to convince him?

If your dad uses sugar in anything, it's essentially the same thing, just that you are using larger doses.

No offense, but most 15 year olds NEED to listen to their parents.
About the dextrose, just tell him about replenishing glycogen levels and how your muscles need it after lifting weights.
If you search the forums I'm sure you can find plenty of studies you can print out to back it up.

I think in this case the best thing to do is to be honest and simply explain the process. Explain how you need to replenish muscle glycogen to aid muscle recovery.
It's just sugar! I'm guessing you don't eat these kind of things anyway, but would he have a problem with you drinking soda and eating sweets? Dextrose is listed in the ingredients of a lot of things he probably considers harmless, like bread. You may want to point this out to him.

In my opinion, the benefits of "spiking insulin levels" are overated. I doubt that post workout dextrose would significantly improve your gains over other carb sources. I prefer eating regular foods.
If you wish to convince your dad, I would suggest helping him understand what dextrose is -- the dextrorotary form of glucose. Dextrose/glucose is a sugar, like sucrose or fructose. All three sugars (glucose, sucrose, and fructose) are found naturally in most fruits. If you are unable to purchase dextrose, another option would be candy in which the primary component is maltodextrin/dextrose/glucose.

You don't need to order dextrose for your post workout nutrition. There are any number of things you can eat (Smarties, for example)
Listen to your parents.

in order to gain ur parents' trust,u have to let them know that u know what the heck u are doing. i read somewhere that a lot of parents are abnegating their children from fat b/c of all the obesity-in-children stories they hear. of course, these kids grow up sub-intelligence, b/c kids need fat to myleinate their nerves and brain cells. in this case, parents do not know what the heck they are doing.
first, educate ur parents. a lot of ppl do not understand "beta-receptors" and "glycogen," and ppl fear what they don't understand. when i was in high school, i had to explain tons of crap to my parents on why i'm doing what i'm doing. such fears included creatine, high protein, heavy lifting, etc.
of course, if u cannot explain to ur parents, then maybe u don't knwo what ur talking about.

gatorade powder has enough dextrose only for taste purposes. remember, its a sports drink, and w/ sports drinks, u dont want to increase insulin levels during competition

(how i love ignorant parents who think they know but have no idea and won't trust the judgement of their kids)
I mean no offence with this but:
I love even more kids who think their parents are ignorants because their parents don't trust their judgement. !!! you are asking, how to convince your dad... man ... you should know by now ... if you have such a great judgement ... that you won't convince parents with arguments ... that is universal knowledege, knowledege that I guess, you lack ....
be smart about this, there are several alternatives to dextrose, Paul already gave you one ...
i tell him about "spiking my insulin levels" man... you honestely think that a parent will agree to "spike your insulin levels" ... What is wrong with using less threating terminology.
Listen to your parents ... they are doing it for your own good, and no you do not have better judgement than they do... or we wouldn't be talking about this right now

Smarties is usually the only candy mentioned when posters talk about dextrose/maltodextrin, but there are several other options including Spree, Sweet Tarts, Tangaroos, Dextro Energry, and Glucose Tablets. There are also plenty of regular foods that cause a similar insulin response.

They are a Smarties imitator sold by K-mart for a lower price. I am not sure if the product is still being sold. I was unable to find any references to the candy dated within the last couple years.

looks through cabinets for candy ( you guys make me want to snack)
I think you will find that most of the stuff out the has very little effect on your progress in the long run. train hard, eat healthy, get lots of rest.
