I am looking into evopro protein and someone on another forum said it contains 3 gr. of maltodextrin per serving. What is it? Is it harmful?
he also said this....
"Note that it does have a pinch of maltodextrin in it which a few people have said could throw you out of ketosis."
What is ketosis???
I'm lost guys...
thanks for the help.

Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate, sugar, so I'm guessing it's in there as a sweetener.
Ketosis is a state the body can be in where, due to the lack of carbohydrate intake, a lot of fat is burned and some of the fat fragments - ketones - are excreted to preserve the body's acid-base balance. It's exploited by diets such as Atkins which are very low in carbs to induce ketosis. So they're saying that this small amount of carbs - the maltodextrin - can be enough to stop it.

so what happens when its stoped?
Is there a way around this...like increasing your carb intake?

Ketosis only happens when you do a low carb diet. From your questions I assume you're not doing such a diet, so you don't need to worry about it

Maltodextrin isn't really sweet, at least in my experience...I'm guessing it's in there more as a thickener of some sort as it tends to make my shakes creamier.

Yes I was wondering about this because I have read that maltodextrin is not very sweet (if at all) but I didn't know what else it could be used for.

Maltodextrin is used as a creatine transport right after training.!!!

not neccesarily a sweetener, its derived from corn and is a starch/sugar much like glucose, fructose, sucrose etc. it with dextrose are used to transport creatine as the dex and maltodex provide an insulin spike which results in greater creatine absorbtion, and also when taken PoWO it replenishes muscle glycogen stores which were sapped during your lifting session...

It's not sweet, though.

Starches are transformed into many commercial products by hydrolysis with acids or enzymes. The resulting products are assigned a Dextrose Equivalent (DE) value which is related to the degree of hydrolysis. A DE value of 100 corresponds to completely hydrolyzed starch, which is pure glucose (dextrose). Maltodextrin is not sweet and has DE values from 5 to 20.
