I just wanted to know what glutamine actually does. Like what benefits it has on muscle building, I also wanted to know what the recommended dose would be.

Thanks.

There is a bit of info on glutamine. Most people here aren't too sure about it's benefits vs. cost, most think you'd be better off spending the money elsewhere. I agree with this.

Benefits on muscle building? Very little. Primarily it's for reducing catabolism while cutting and I'd say it's not worthwhile even for that, unless you're recovering from a trauma like a burn victim :)

Well looks like that will be one less supplement to worry about. Thanks for the help as always.

glutamine, for me, helped significantly for recovery from soreness after doing squats. i normally get sore for 4 days, i can cut it into 2 days w/ glutamine supplementation. the idea is that muscle tissue is 20% glutamine, and no natural protein source has that much glutamine, so by taking more glutamine, u make more use of the amino acids that u eat. but, it is expensive. if u have the money, i think u shoudl get it. if u don't, then don't, it makes noticable recovery changes, but i dont' think its worth the price (since u can take more protein to get the glutamine for less $)

Yes, to clarify, when I say it's not worthwhile I mean if you have the money to spend and the inclination then go for it. But Glutamine is expensive and while it may be of some benefit I do not think this justifies the cost.

if you want to here good things about glutamine, find another board/forum because people here at the WBB forums seem to hate L-glutamine. do a search and find the post that i started awhile ago, glutamine was bashed so hard that it still hasn't recovered. in the end, don't buy it cuz its too expensive and just isn't worth it.

chicken has 1 gram of glutamic acid for every seven grams of protein

as Podium pointed out mammal tissue is high in glutamine so all meat is a great source of glutamine
