View Full Version : Just saw this video of Tom Platz
squatted 500 23 times anyone ever see that? Pretty awesome and I was looking at some other guys doing competition squats (Ed Coan) was one with 900 something and they almost bounce out of the bottom.

Yeah, it's impressive. His legs are so large his full squats look like parallel.
imagine most people who squat can't do 500 once.

It was an amazing show of strength by Platz

Crazy. He must've had a huge pump in his legs. He was coming down so fast. Thought he was gonna pop his knees out or something.

He makes it look so easy.
I think that was the competition Platz and Hatfield had, one was for reps with 500 and the other was a 1 rep max. Platz dominated Fred Hatfield in the reps comp, and Hatfield dominated in the one rep max.
You'd think Platz's amount of muscle would give him the advantage in both...

That aside, Platz looks like he'd be able to squat more weight by virtue of his muscle mass alone. You look at both these guys and instinctively think that one is much stronger than the other.

looked like he was smiling those last few reps...
Dr. Squat has to be the strongest guy, thats the least impressive from looks alone. He's a monster you wander how he does it.

His legs are enormous. I squatted 465 for 20 reps, but it was certainly nowhere near that easy for me. I wore wraps in mine, which was to my benefit, but he has on a squat suit, which obviously is to his benefit. No doubt, that's some crazy stuff though.
Yes, and that makes a ton of difference, a TON.

That was impressive. The way he was going I thought he was going to do 30.

Leave this thread as in end it, or leave it up for more people to see it?
Maybe a post was erased that I missed?

...and Fred Hatfield.

That video is of a much publicized event from several years ago. It was Fred Hatfield vs. Tom Platz in a squat-off. They squatted for both reps and max. Tom won the reps and Hatfield the max.

It's a cool video, but I would be more impressed seeing a one rep max.

Here ya go.
Impressive, but it looks incredibly dangerous to me.
