Hi,

I've lurked on this forum for ages without registering, but I thought I'd bite the bullet and join in. So, hi everyone.

I've lifted before, but never for longer than 6 months at a time. It's about a year since I've done any lifting at the moment (due to workload, lots of changes in my life, and general laziness/procrastination). It's sadly looking like I'll not really be able to do much lifting for the next couple of months either (I have no access to a gym, and no spare money to buy any equipment at home), but I'm hoping that by registering and getting more involved on the boards I'll maintain my current enthusiasm and motivation.

I'm planning to get a semblence of fitness in the next 2-3 months by running, cycling and stretching - at the moment I'm so out of shape that any exercise at all will be a huge benefit. Then, hopefully at the end of August, I should be able to either buy some gear at home or join a gym and start actually lifting again.

Just for reference, I'm currently around 200lbs and approx 15-20% bodyfat (measured on those wildly-inaccurate bodyfat scales at 17%) at 6'3". I'm not "fat", but I'm seriously unfit in every aspect. Still, you've got to start somewhere, right? My ideal achievement, perhaps a year or two from now, would be an "athletic" build rather than "muscular" - I'm thinking more "martial artist" or "swimmer" than "bodybuilder". I've also got an equally strong desire to have a high level of cardio fitness and endurance - I know the two goals are slightly antagonistic, but I feel I should be able to achieve a physique I'm happy with while still being able to run or cycle long distances.

Like I say, I know it's a bit perverse to join a bodybuilding forum when there's no chance of me doing any bodybuiding for a few months, but not maintaining my motivation has been my main fault in the past so I'm trying to address that now. In the past I've made good progress then, for one reason or another, just stopped - that's what I want to address. I'll use the coming months to plan exactly what I want to do, set goals, improve my cardiovascular fitness and flexibility, and get my diet in shape; basically anything I can do to prepare myself so that I have no excuses once the lifting starts.

Anyway, that's the overly-long intro out of the way - just wanted to set all that down for my own reference if nothing else.

Finally, I'd just like to say thanks to the many people who've already made great contributions to this forum - there's a massive amount of knowledge here, and I know from what I've read that I'll get a huge amount of support and advice.

Cheers for now!

Like you said, any exercise is a huge benefit. If you have access to water, swimming is a great way to get/stay in shape. Either way, do something!

Oh, and if money is an issue, ask me about GPP. It's VERY cheap and it will kick your ass in 30 minutes or less. Guaranteed. :D
