J, I concur, the rep is not superstrict, but it is not anywhere near sloppy either. I could haul that weight up for 1 very strict rep (I believe), but it just feels better to curl in just a touch looser style (to me).

Thanks for the compliments guys!

it takes a man to admit a fault..

and by the way- lovin that litle bi flex at the end, a wink at the camera should have ensued.

I don't feel that my form is a fault. I do think it is not ultra-strict, but that does not make it a fault in my mind. I do, however, call a spade a spade.

even with a SLIGHT.. very slight.. cheat, can you curl that weight?

unless u can curl that weight weight absolutely strict form, i duno if you should be saying anything.

06-12-2004, 05:41 AM
Thanks guys, but don't worry about it, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The fact is that the strongest athletes are all a bit loose in their form on curling movements. The movement itself just lends to it.

subtleties aren't your strong point are they?

and chris i wouldnt call your form a fault, but i was just saying it wasnt perfect- so i rephrase my self
"it takes a man to admit he isn't perfect"
or
"it takes a man to admit his 190lb bb curl didnt have super strict form"

howbout that

I think you should make training guide vidoes for wbb with all the exercises so newcomers can download and see how they should be done, that would defiently make wbb even a notch better!

On a side note- That's basically what I want to look like when I'm 30-35. Big as hell and lean enough to show it, but I want everyone to know I just can't resist the supreme Chalupa. I don't know if Chris can...but I know I can't. Any idea what your bodyfat is right now?

chris, do you diet at all or just eat healthy in general?

Reinier
06-14-2004, 05:01 PM
That's a curl? It's certainly impressive but isn't a curl a bicep isolation exercise?

This is almost some kind of powerjerk.

Definately looking big and strong.

Budiak
06-15-2004, 03:06 AM
It is most definitely a curl, Reinier. A curl is an isolation exercise, yes, and the biceps are still the primary motivator when there is cheating involved. There's no way that this can be misconstrued as a jerk.

By the way, a jerk is where you lift the weight above your head. It is the 'jerk' part of a 'clean and jerk'. I think that you are thinking of a hang clean, where you take the barbell from a standing held position and clean it to chest level, but it is normally (always) done with a pronated grip.

I'm sure Chris can clean a lot more than 190, too.

chris, do you diet at all or just eat healthy in general?

I just eat generally well, no dieting. Let me give you a sample daily intake of food:

Breakfast:

4 whole eggs fried
2 english muffins

glass of orange juice

2 tablespoons of brewer's yeast
7-8g of creatine monohydrate (AtLarge's of course  )
800 I.U. of E
1000 mg of C
green tea extract or Thermocin (I use Thermocin for a month or two then switch off for a month or two)
30mg of zinc
1 B-Complex tablet

Lunch:

smoothie: 2 scoops of Nitrean or Opticen, 2 bananas, 1 cup of some other form of fruit (berries etc.), 12-15 oz. of skim milk

Dinner:

Whatever the wife makes. She always cooks very healthy. I will eat a pretty good sized dinner.

I may have a snack of some crackers prior to bed. I always have a 1-2 scoops of Nitrean or Opticen mixed with water right before bed.

That's it.

good job, though it would have been better with out a bounce at the bottom or swinging your back in to it.

what you can do on a preacher pad / bar (with zero cheating)

Let's not belittle his accomplishment... That's complete beast right there... His form is loose, yes, big deal. I'd love to see a day where I can curl that with that form... It's damn close enough, remember, when you get into max lifts form often suffers... Look at DLs as an example...

Great job, Chris.

Here are my thoughts to those who have a problem with the form; when you can post a video of you doing the same thing or more with comparable form then I will be happy to hear your thoughts.

Reinier
06-19-2004, 11:27 AM
lol my question on form is not meant to belittle your lift at all, It's impressive and I said so. All I mean is it's not a curl in the isolation sense. It was meant more as a question than a statement.

I could never do that with a 190 lbs barbell.

Alex.V
06-19-2004, 11:58 AM
You gotta understand, Reinier, it comes across as a little more than an innocent question.

Chris- let's see 200 next. I like round numbers.

Thanks. :)

That's a heck of an impressive lift. In fact now that I have finished cutting, that weights the same as me. I wouldn't have thought that was possible for at least 99% of natural lifters strict or not. :omg:

Chris its official you got an ok from my dad who has seen a lot of lifters.

Arain

You guys complaining about chris's lift piss me off. You must be living in a dream world to call back cheating on that. Have you seen what people lift like at the gym or do you actually notice the way you lift. any way you look at it that is a very impressive lift. chris also obviously had more in the tank. very powerful good job man. In fact i wouldn't even argue his form is loose, looks good to me. when you hit 1 plate+ on each side everybody's form is gonna have a slight bend like that, the weight is heavy. Chris put up some more vids, very inspiring.

organichu, are you asking me? or someone else in a previous post? I can deadlift 585 for a single (not max) I try to keep my 1rm tests controlled on the eccentric descend and on the way up to minimize any muscle tears or sudden movements that could lead to such.

Not to hijack Mr. Mason's thread...but a 500 pound RAW bench press?!

yeah, I was a powerlifter for the longest time. I know if I kept it up I would tear a pec, so I started up bodybuilding, I'm a bit over weight, I weigh 300lbs and I would like to weigh like 220-240. Right now I have 21 inch arms, but I know thats not strict size, I am estimating about 18-19 inch arms If I were to have like 8% b/f but the funny thing is from all that powerlifting my arms are so dense that I barely have any fat on my arms, its all in my mid area. I really want to cut my fat down and see what I have. I had a 585lb bench with a double ply poly bench shirt when I powerlifted. Denim bench shirt I had a 600lb bench. I can curl about 185 right now, but when I was into curling a lot I could get 225 with a swing, but 205 on a stricter curl. My military press is about 315 after I clean it. (IF I can't clean it I wont try to press it)

chris mason
08-22-2004, 04:48 PM
What's your name big man? With that kind of lifting at 19 or younger you must be a pretty well known guy in the powerlifting community.

well I have never competed, so I'm not very well known. But I have talked to all the pros and such, scot mendelson, ryan kennelly, shawn lattimer, mike brentsell, ect.. ect..... I've actually talked to most of them personally. But some just online. I have never competed, because I never got around to it. I'm busy working with my dads buisness full time. you can go to my webpage. www.expage.com/hulkk500 althought its not a website with pages, its just a free webpage.

Im surprised at all the posts on supposed flawed 'form', but i suppose this is the net. Personally i thought the form was top draw, for the weight used.
