I heard that the best time to consume a form of simple carbs is right after a workout! I was just wondering what forms of simple carbs do u like to consume right after?

I usually go with dextrose and whey protein mixed with water. I usually take 1/4-1/3 cups of dextrose and 1-2 scoops of whey protein. About an hour after or so, I eat a meal. If I'm out of dextrose I eat white bread till I get more dextrose. I notice a difference in recovery when consuming dextrose versus waiting 30 minutes and eating a meal. It gives me a good pump, or gives my muscles that feeling of being pumped. Also dextrose tastes great.

I'll go home and check my MRP ingrediants, but don't MRPs usually contain dextrose?

No, they usually contain maltodextrin.

Vido is correct. I believe malto has the same GI rating as dextrose, meaning it is just as good. Malto however is a bit more expensive than dextrose. Another option is to mix some malto and dextrose and take both postworkout with some whey protein in water.

I believe the reason they contain maltodextrin is that supplement companies can market them as containing complex carbs.

So dextrose considered a carb? Maybe I could get a link to describe the science behind this?...

I started eating supplements and the right foods, but don't know much behind what is exactly going on. These forums have been great so far.

a mixture of malto, dextrose, and maybe some small amounts of fructose would be ideal

But I usually go with the dextrose

Dextrose, Whey, and water. That's all you need. I use that as a post workout shake at around 11, then I eat luch at 1.
