I am 17 years old, 5'8'', 154lbs (went from 125 to 155 in the past 8 months). I want to lose the fat that I got during this bulk, so I want to start the cutting phase. I have never done this before, so I need a little help. I was around 3,200 calories while on my bulk, but over the past couple weeks I have gradually lowered my calories down to about 2,900 (because I want to cut). I went on this one website and it said that my maintenance calories are about 2,100. This means that I need to get down to AT LEAST that number of calories, probably even less. I was just going to drop straight down to 2,000, until a member on this forum told me that by doing that I would really slow my metabolism down, NOT GOOD. So, I am lowering my calories at a rate of 25cal/day (ex:mon-2900, tue-2875, etc.). At this rate its going to be a WHILE until I get down to my goal of 1900-2000. Do I need to be this gradual at lowering my calories? I don't want to screw up my body by dropping calories TOO fast, slowing my metabolism and making me fat, so I feel that I should gradually lower them. The question I have though, is, Is it really necessary for me to be this gradual (-25cal/day)? What is a good/safe rate for lowering my calories?
