oh man i've heard it all. u have options lol
1. i've heard breathe in when pushing and out when pulling(or letting down).(benching)
2. u could breathe normally the whole time ( i do this) it's good to keep oxygen flowing but if u breathe pretty hard on some exercises u may throw yourself out of position. so be carefull.
3. another is hold your breath when doing first motion.(such as going down on squat or bench) then pushing breath out hard on upward motion.
it varies with some exercises so u probably will want to do diff. breathing during certain exercises. decisons, decisions.....

pretty sure as long as u breathe, u will live lol

Actually, there are controlled breathing techniques that powerlifters and martial artists use to improve power. The most important thing is to NOT hold your breath. You put extra strain on your heart and cardiovascular system if you hold your breath while moving heavy weight. The recommended breathing method while lifting is to exhale during the concentric phase and to inhale during the eccentric. Most importantly, don't stop breathing. It will put a real damper on your workout.
