View Full Version : Foods for long endurance rides

I?m planning on doing a long road bike trip 86 miles each way for a total of 172 miles. I wanted to know what kind of food I should eat during my ride. I can take something small like a sandwich or a protein bar. What would be optimal food to refuel my muscles? Some quick digestible carbs? Or would I want complex carbs to give me lasting emergy? What about fat or protein?

I like to take fat free fig newtons on long runs - they're small, easily digestible, and pure quick digesting carbs. I don't feel protein on my long runs improves my performance but some people do, you could try a powerbar or a bagel with ff cream cheese if you want something with protein in it. Stay away from fat. But try some stuff on trining rides and see what works best for you.

I want something less processed and healthier. Maybe natty-pb on whole wheat bread, I'm still searching around to get some ideas.
