Hey I have a question to ask the board how many caloris should the average person take to make good gains. I weigh 185lbs and I try to eat about 185 grams of protein a day. How many calories should I try to consume a day to make good gains and get the best out of my diet? Thanks for your help!!!

Welcome to the forums CJ..

Unfortunately we need to know a little more on your goals to answer this question for you..

for example if you are dieting to lose fat your caloires and quite possible food sources will need to be different to that if your main goal is to put on weight..

However to do both you need to find out your amr (active metabolic rate)

Check out the Dieting Basics (http://www.wannabebig.com/article.php?articleid=19) article for some great tips and also instructions on how to find your amr..

Your amr is the amount of calories you will eat to maintain your weight.

Once you have found this you can then make a decision based on your goals in regards to calorie totals. Finding YOUR amr is very important..

People have different metabolisms and burn calories at different rates.. I.e I can pretty much maintain a weight of 295 lb's @ 3300 calories.. I know some people that have to eat 5000 to maintain 170!!!! Get my drift?

Check out the dieting (http://www.wannabebig.com/category.php?cat=2) section of wbb generally.. Maki wrote a good article on fat tips..

oh also if you are looking to gain weight these are a must read :)

Well I dont have any problem staying at 185. I eat very healthy and watch what I eat. I lift 4-5 times a week and take several supplements. Maybe this will help but thanks for the reply.

Well my main goal is to get bigger and stronger and build mass throughout my body. I have a fairly low bf% because I incorporate high intesity cardio into my workout week. I weigh 185lb and dont have much of a problem staying near that weight. My Amr is 3139.2 and Bmr is 1962. Hopes this helps u help me!
