View Full Version : Stupid question for working out calories!

Whats the formula for finding out how many g of a certain percentage of your daily calorie allowance is eg I wanna know how many grams of protein is in 50% of my total daily calories (2200). Its so i can work out how many grammes of each food type i can have per day. I know protein/carbs is 6 calories per g, fat is 9 cals and alcohol is 7 g. But i forgot the formula to work out my allowances of each...help!?!

different people like different ratios

I like 40% c 30% p 30% f

and protein/carbs is 4 calories per g

I just do 1.5 to 2.0 times my BW, so i get 1.5g Protien x 260 = 390g P same for Carbs 390g C

390+390= 780gx4 (calories/g)=3120 calroies a day if i eat 1.5 my weight in protien and carbs. Plus 80gs of fat x 9 caloires each g = 720 calories

So with 3120+720 i get Total intake would be 3840 caloreis.
Comparet that to a rough recommended maintance intake of (14/16 x BW) i get (3640/3900)

I then compare my intake to(3840) my maintaince(3640/3900), and i can add or subtract amounts of protien or carbs till i get either my Bulk or Cut diet.

There may be an easier way, but i just crunch the numbers that way.

50% = 1100

1100 / 4 = 275

= 275g Protein

I worked it out. I Use total cals x percentage / (grams per calorie x100) so if i cut at 2400 cals and want to find out what 50% the total is in protein i do 2400 x 50 = 120000 then divide that by 600(6g of protein per calorie)

and what was your answer...

that dosent look right

2400 x 0.5 = calsOFprotein / 4calsPerGram = 300 grams of protein

which seems like an awefull lot if you are natural
