I was just wondering why exactly these are soo much worse then like regular oats. I started a new job and was going to take 2 packets and mix it with a banana and like a protein bar for pre workout.

For cutting, probably not a good idea. Usually highly processed. All the good stuff is gone from instant. Your less likely to have the "full" feeling longer than with regular oats.

The oat's cell wall gets destroyed when the oatmeal is powdered. This allows the starch to be digested much more quickly than with regular rolled oats. This makes the glycemic index very high, it's almost like eating sugar.

I'm also wondering if the flavored packets have added sugar as well for taste...

Unless specified, the flavored instant oatmeal packets contain a considerable amount of sugar (I believe in the 10-20g range).
