View Full Version : Just need some quick opinions...cals

hey all, im 18, male, 5'8", 170lbs., roughly 13%BF Trying to lean down to around 155/160 (or whatever i weigh at less than 7%BF), and my target date is november, around thanksgiving...i dont think thats to soon. Anyway, seeing as im young, and mucular, should i be cutting on over 2000 or 2500, or more like 1800 or less...all the cals are clean, and i run mon-fri, twice a day, 30 min per session, and take the weekends off. I also lift 3 times a week...
So how many cals???

assuming your currently at maintenance or coming off a bulk and that your calories have been over 3300 for the last few weeks, then between 2500-3000 (closer to 3000) would be ideal.

Are you currently tracking your diet? if so how many calories are you consuming on an average day? and are you currently tracking your weight?

really? i mean i know im young with a fast metabolism, but i guess im just afraid of eating that much....i should give it a shot though. You all dont think that losin 7% BF in 6 months is too fast or unreasonable right?

Always start with the higher number and adjust down. It's better to keep your metabolism high and not lose weight (fat or muscle) initially than to drop the cals too soon and lose more muscle than need be.

well, geoff, ive been tinkering around a little, im not so much concerned with scale weight, as much as composition.
And as far as cals, ive noticed some respectable changes in only the timeframe of 7 days, on 1800 cals per day, with that training program, and i didnt loose strength in the weightroom, so common sense would tell me to stay low, 1800 till i stop seein results, then drop more, but i was just afraid of eating to little and slowin my metab down
