I did this video for another website called ironhistory.com . The man who runs the site (Joe Roark) had posted that 70 years ago a gentleman had done a heels touching deadlift of 553 lbs.

I said that I thought I could match that and offered to take a video.

I did the lift with no belt, only wearing shorts and sneakers. I did use hand chalk.

Actually, the video you are seeing was the 2nd time I pulled the weight in a few minutes. My wife messed-up the video the first time :bang: . It was funny because I got really psyched for the 1st attempt and smoked it! I then realized I had to do it again!

Anyway, check it out.

I am assuming it's harder to do it heels together. How did it feel to you?

My back husts just watching that. Very impressive, awesome even. Were you sore for a bit after you did it? (seeing how you had to do it twice)

Yep, harder. You can't get as much leg drive. Try them, much more difficult for most people.

I would but I hurt my back friday doing deads:(. Not sure I will be able to keep doing them either, which sucks.

Well, a bit tight, yes. You will proably have a hard time believing this, but I deadlifted Saturday night and Sunday!

Lol, I didn't go balls out in those sessions, but I went heavy.

I'd like to see how fast the first one was, considering the second was smooth as silk. Nicely done!

nice lift chris.

you should try to get alex to take a video of his deads. i'm guessing he could pull over 600 heels together pretty easily.

and the cross picture from the other thread is quite impressive too. wish my lats inserted that low.

i think i might make another video relatively soon, whenever i finally get 405 on front squats. i *finally* got 365x1 last week after about 6 weeks of trying and failing in the hole.

You need to prod him, he will never take a picture let alone a video! Alex, do it, I would love to see a video of you deadlifting.

Narc, I am not following, you got 405 on front squats, but what was the 365?

sorry, must have not made as much sense as when i wrote it. when i finally get 405 on front squats, i'll make a video of it, because i think that'd be a pretty good weight to get on that. last week, after about 6 weeks of trying and failing to get 365 on fronts, i finally got it. that make more sense i hope?

and i'll ask him about it, we'll see, i know his gf's camera can do videos.

Nice flip flops!

(and deadlift; you should dress up in old timey clothes and wear a bowler when you lift)

well I can see his right hand is palm-up... given that chris does palms-in cleans and presses I was curious if he was using a curl grip or mixed grip for the dead

Well, I have been practicing with both a double overhand and underhand hook grip. That particular lift was done with a mixed grip because I didn't want to overly complicate matters when I was trying the heels together lift.

I have pulled 525 with the hook grip and plan to do more very soon.

I tried heels together tonight. Only 225 (2 sets, 10 reps), which is about half of what i normally do. It actually felt really good and I did not have any problems or pain whatsoever. I felt like I was modelling the Gold's Gym logo guy when I completed each rep.

The gorilla man at work again! Btw, how much did that home gym run you? Looks nice.

I bought the rack about 9-10 years ago. I honestly can't remember for sure, but I think it was in the $1200 range. It has a high and low pulley attachment.

I paid a lot for it, but it has served me well over the years. The rowing apparatus I bought several years ago as well and I remember paying ~$200 for it.

also, i dont wanna be hoggin your journal here, but i am interested in how your routine of 3 singles for each excercise has gone. Would you recommend it to others?

BigNic

when i said the singles routine, i meant the one you talked about in one of your earlier vid threads

chris mason
08-14-2004, 12:24 PM
Yep, it is working nicely. I use higher reps for my upper back, but mostly singles otherwise.
